  1. Formula Thumb

I don't know how many more rounds we'll play of this before Forza 4 comes out, and how quickly we'll transition to that, or if we'll transition to that at all. So maybe, I don't know, but possibly.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

I haven't seen the movie, but obviously I have no problems imagining she's in it purely as eye-candy, and that's offensive, etc. However, women have (more than men) been cast in movies for those purposes since the medium was invented (consider all the ladies just standing around looking hot on the platform in Train Pulling into a Station), but – disregarding pornography – calling it prostitution is taking it a bit far, in my opinion.
  3. Tabletop RPGs

    Ready as confetti.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

You like pink-haired chicks, and women in dresses are whores, got it.
  5. Happy Birthday!

Thanks everyone (and also happy birthday Subbes (though I'll have to take your word for it, as the forum didn't show your name))!
  6. Google Plus aka Emerald Sea

It's worth mentioning that Wave wasn't an attempt at a new Facebook, but rather a new email. In my (not very informed) opinion, it was an awesome technology that solved all the problems I experience with simple email. Unfortunately they went about launching it like huge fools and now it's doomed. You can still get it and play around with it, but I expect it'll be at least another five years before someone takes a stab at replacing email.
  7. Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday Trithemius! Been some good times.
  8. Embarrassing Awkward Nerd Confessions

I have so many of their t-shirts. It's weird how this didn't trigger the same nerd shame. Maybe I mistakenly put it on the hipster account. Anyway, yes, awesome site.
  9. So, I understand this is coming out this week. I've really been missing these games. Does Telltale alternate between entire seasons of Monkey Island and Sam & Max? Also, anyone know if Jake is working on these games now (and not the next Monkey Islands)? I seem to remember him mentioning something in the podcast, but I'm too lazy to listen to all the episodes again to find out.
  10. I wasn't really interested in this game until I heard Capcom is not letting people reset their cartridges, likely to stop used game sales. Great idea, huh?
  11. Embarrassing Awkward Nerd Confessions

    I probably cannot.
  12. L.A. Noire

    This.
  13. L.A. Noire

Keep talking! I love to hear people talking about stuff I don't know anything about. For example, listening to fishermen talking about their fishing rods and tackle boxes.
  14. L.A. Noire

Hey, all those band names sound made up!
  15. Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D

You can click the underlined text in my post, and it will take you to another page. edit: Oh, never mind, I misread you. As for how it's an incentive for not reselling, isn't that rather obvious? I mean, you can't start over as if it's a new game. I'm assuming that means there are things you can't do twice, like achievements (not that there are achievements, but that sort of thing.) How could this be anything else than an attempt to foil plots to sell it used?
  16. Arma 2 for free for Thumbs?

There was an offer? When was this?
  17. L.A. Noire

It might not seem like a big deal, but it gets boring fast since you've seen them before and anything you know you can't skip always feels like it's taking too long.
  18. L.A. Noire

I started replaying this thing to get max stars on everything, but it's just too god damn boring. So much of the time is spent watching the intro and getting in and out of cars to make it worthwhile, especially when the whole interview thing is so unpredictable. Whomever gets the achievement for max rating on all cases is either lucky, lazy (FAQ) or have nothing else to do but to constantly search the same locations for clues over and over again. I feel sort of stupid for buying all the DLC now. I'll probably not go back and play all the cases I've paid for. Thinking back, the whole game has been a disappointment. Also, it doesn't help that the men and women who made it were treated like shit for all of seven years.
  19. Plug your shit

    R-goggles.
  20. Arma 2 for free for Thumbs?

Oh, I remember this! It's that game where two assholes on Steam bully you into buying a game, promising to play multiplayer with you, and then never follow through, and one's a "doctor" and the other one's a drug-addled, clog-wearing game designer, right?
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

Watch it, and if you don't like it, it's probably not for you.
  22. Keeping your data safe

So, a while back I started to fear data loss as a result of a disk failing. I thought I should at least keep them on a RAID, so that a single disk failure wouldn't disappear a TB or two of my files. However, I didn't want to have a RAID running in my computer, as I was aiming for a computer with as few disks as possible, due to the noise and heat they create. So, I decided to have a separate file server, and at first I wanted to build one myself and use Linux with software RAID. In fact, I was encouraged to do this by colleagues. But then I didn't. I bought a Seagate NAS instead. It's quite sleek, and its not much bigger than the four disks it contains. I've used it for almost half a year now, and have been quite satisfi-- HOLY FUCKING CUNTING MOTHERFUCKING COCKSUCKING FUCKARONI I JUST LOST ALL THE DATA ON MY NAS!!!! That's right, all my precious files. Gone. It says: Volume: Failed. And the word "Failed" is a link, so for a second I thought maybe I could recover it by clicking on the link, but doing so only opened a little window that said "Volume failed". So now I have this box that has tons of storage capacity, and I don't trust it at all. So now I'll probably... I don't know what I'll do. Anyway, back up your files, people.
  23. Keeping your data safe

Here it is, the update everyone's been waiting for. Since my last post I've built a brand new NAS from less shitty parts, switched from FreeNAS to NexentaStor, and an SSD instead of a USB stick. In addition to the four disks in my original NAS, I bought four more: one to replace the one that actually turned out to broken, one as a hot spare (the NAS will switch to this automatically if a disk breaks) and two for taking a simple NTFS no-nonsense backup of everything on there. Being unable to fix the permanently damaged ZFS volume from my FreeNAS I've decided to just dump everything to my two backup disks and start fresh with NexentaStor. It's a tad more fiddly, but has some nice stuff like sending me fucking emails letting me know when everything has turned to shit. I'm getting around 60MB/s write speed dumping everything back, which I'm happy with. The current moral is: if you're making a NAS to keep your data on, remember: A NAS is not a backup, only a way of keeping your files safer and network accessible. Don't try to be all smart buying tiny Chinese cases – everything will explode in your face and you'll end up twisting off the cheap plastic hinges like they're made of cream, and probably inhale some hard core carcinogens in the process. ZFS is the motherfucking bomb. If you're not afraid to type commands in like a movie hacker, ZFS has never stopped impressing me with its apparent robustness, even in the face of the gravest of my many mistakes. Profit!
