A lot of people would factor in the profit from selling a game they brought into their decision of whether or not to purchase it. Therefore by buying pre-owned you could be seen as giving money to the developers as the original purchaser’s money going to the developer is dependent on the resale. In some countries I think this plan could be legally very dodgy, but Sony will probably spend a small fortune pushing it through. I agree with the point about buying pre-owned being the only way to get one's hands on those classic games that you missed first time around. I guess if all the content was downloadable as it was on steam this problem could be sidestepped.

I love you, Spafford (The Spaff Appreciation Thread)
Ginger replied to netmonkey's topic in Idle Banter
If Spaff really existed I would love him, but he is a false idol that yufster, Marek and bob created as the catalysts for their plans of world domination (never trust the Irish Scots or Dutch they are evil people). All the pictures u see are photo-shopped with parts taken from the most attractive people in the world (the lips are mine). But guys it is time to stop it. -
Is saying Huxley will be like Planetside with an UT 2007 engine meant be a put down , I loved planetside, my only complaint was I didn't like the way the firing mechanism felt (felt not being an accurate description as you don't actually feel it but you know what I mean), and I like the way UT gun mechanics felt. It'll be different from a multiplayer online shooter, as there will hopefully be a sense of progression through some sort of story, regularly updated content, co-op play against NPCs as well as PvP. Maybe it won't live up to my expectations but the MMO FPS is certainly a genre I'm hoping will evolve. Dan I could be wrong about this but I thought Tabula Rosa was command based (like WoW) rather than a first person shooter, which wouldn’t really put it in direct competition with Huxley.

and to play all my non-existent innovitivel PS3 titles on...

I love the FF games apart from X and X 2, I know they are flawed in lots of ways and are not the best turn based RPGs out there, but I still loved playing them. If it is not your style of game fair enough, but to call them shit is just unfounded.

Don't be dissing my GBA (that bob stole a year ago)

I can't wait for Huxley, although it didn't seem to get that much coverage, all I really heard was that they were planning to let 360 owners "play" on the same severs as PC owners.

If they do read the forum lets just hope that whatever is wrong with them impedes their literacy, as well as their speech, otherwise it could be harsh, funny but harsh.

Sony and Microsoft are doing so much free publicity for the Wii they may end up finding that they elevate it from being a "secondary" console to being a real contender for market dominance, more competition is always good for the consumer. I love Ben's pub fight analogy.

Ok I've just put about 12 hours into it in one day (man it is great) but now when I try to load either of my saved games it will either crash to desktop or my whole PC will completely freeze up, has anyone else had this problem and if so can you let me know how you fixed it. I'll cry if I have to start a new char I got really attached to my little elf.

I think one of the main things that added to the “cool” factor of the PS2 was GTA3, I saw a lot of people going out to buy a PS2 just to play that game. Although GTA 4 will be on both the 360 and PS3 I think that it will an exclusive game that pushes the boundaries in the same way could be what decides the victor of the current generation (if there is one). I don’t reckon the PS3 will die, as it’ll be a success in Japan. I was expecting it to be more competitively priced to give the Sony Cartel a stronger edge in the DVD standardisation war, maybe they believe their own hype and reckon they’ve already beaten HD-DVD. I was planning to go for a WiS3 setup but now with the price of the PS3 I’ll have to wait until the price drops. The thought of being able to play virtual fighter 5 online is very tempting as it was always difficult to find adequate adversaries for that game.

I agree with earthworm jim his humor could be great for the game, and my all time fav ninty cahr warluigi

I brought my PsP a year ago, and got wipeout and Virtua Tennis, both of which got a lot of love, but nothing else has really struck me as being all that good. Has anyone got any good recommendations?

I remember when the highway 17 section started, I let out a curse, I felt not enough time had passed since the hovercraft section (which I didn’t enjoy that much) plus I wanted to play with my grav gun. However once I got into it, it became my favourite section of the game. .

No I didn't NO DVD patch, I have a retail copy, Thanx for the link I found what I was looking for Just in case anyone else has a similar problem, the way I fixed was to remove the autosave.ess file and replace the extension of the autosave.bak file with .ess. From what I gathered it seemed to be a problem with saving while outside on a boat, there were a few similar problems on the forums.

I can run Fear on my kit, but I reckon I will struggle to play oblivion I have more than enough RAM and CPU but I'm still using my Radeon 9700 (recommended is above Geforce 6800), which is 3 and half years old now. Anyway it is probably for the best as I've got exams coming up and this game could end my life for a long time.

Hmmm I guess it was space invaders or attic attack on my brother's spectrum ZX. First game that made me say OMG was sonic. Game that changed me from someone who played games quite a bit to a gamer would have to be tekken 2.

It feels exactly like the BF:2 patch modern combat (I think that's what it was called) there is almost no progression at all in game play, the only new character type is the medic (haven't seen that in any other FPS ¬¬) and the destructible scenery translates into one bridge in the game that can be destroyed (plus a few other things) I think that could be scripted in quake 1. The BF formula is one that needs really good team work to play well, so unless you are in a clan the only fun way (imo) to play it is get a group of your mates together and then play against bots, but that feature has been taken out in this game. Not a good game in my mind. Promised too much did not deliver.

I think Nintendo’s business plan is a wise one, why involve yourself in a market where u have to take massive initial losses (and if the past is anything to go on) to only come out with a failure. Make yourself distinctive from the rest. I'm probably going to buy either a 360 or PS3 once I see more of the software (but def. not both) and a (definately) revolution. And I imagine a lot of gamers may do the same, so while Sony and Microsoft could see themselves locked in a massive battle for supremacy, ninty will be sailing along (Wind waker style) making profits (hopefully) and if there is a decisive victor in the sony microsoft battle could see themselves in second place. I've hearrd the price of 360 and PS3 games is expected to go up to $60-$70 (=massive amounts of piracy) a pop which means in the UK it will probably be £50-£60. That is a hell of a lot, where I may be able to get a nice little game developed by some small independent developer that is fun on the revolution for £20 (this involves massive speculation based on one comment), which sounds good to me. Finally the back catalogue of games sounds amazing (esp. in Europe where so many great games are never released) I've wanted to play chronotrigger for ages and I imagine that I'll be able to find thousands of gems (they better make the controller SF:2turbo friendly)

It's good, it's very good, a lot has gone into its creation and it's fun and this out shadows the few minor probs like slowdown and the turdness of the PS2 analog sticks. But the problem for me is that it isn't a good enough ambassador for games. I reckon more casual gamers are going to play and more non-gamers are going to hear about this game than any other and they are going to come away with their narrow minded views of the gaming industry confirmed. I don't know what they could have done with the core formula to make it a better example of what games could be, but I just wish another AAA title which still has all the commercial necessities could be the one that all these non/fair-weather-gamers had as their main foundation for their opinion of the games industry. For example HL2 with its great AI, physics and slightly less mindless violence would leave a lot of people with a better taste of what games are and what they could be, rather than just getting another 60 million people to buy a PS2/3 and demanding GTA:Clone {fuck there is no number key/hash thingy whatever it is on my powerbook} 168. But it is still a very fun game so it's hard to stay angry at it. I would agree with chris’ point that it gets much better as you progress further (as it did with GTA3/VC but more so this time)

I heard off some guy (someone I work with who is pretty hardcore) that a straight play though of fable takes 9 hours and a pretty much complete play through can be done in 22 hours. That's just not long enough for a RPG to feel truly epic, I want at least 40 hours of standard and 100 hours for the complete. IMO (just guessing now) Fable will be the same as B&W it'll bring a lot of nice new features to the genre but it’ll be ultimately too flawed to be considered as a classic in its own right. But that's just one man opinion and to be honest I hope I'm wrong.

Fable, is it really as groundbreaking as its claiming to be, I mean Morrowind did a lot of what's its claiming. Maybe fable can do it in a way that doesn't leave people at a loss in a massive world but still gives them freedom. I guess hitting that balance is the key to good lead designing. I think Moleynuex (I'll be fucked if I know how to spell) often gets that balance wrong. But hey what's wrong in my mind is probably right for most other gamers (hence his sales) PS I loved how pikey the two lead testzor were. Neverthe less looking forward to it. Stop hitting on doom 3’s game play for not being half life 2. It never wanted to be that. I had a fucking great time playing that gothic arcade action game, and I thought they did what they wanted to do superbly. Cool if its not what u want but don’t belittle it by calling it nothing but graphics I think everyone else in the media industry can learn one thing from Id, don’t show all your games/movies secrets off in a move to get people to buy your game, reward those how have bought it by revealing the cool bits main story to them.

People (esp. Ben) who thought things could go bad for Sega probably never thought things would get this bad. All I'm going to say is I've just seen Sonic holding a McDonalds Happy Meal. What next, are we going to see a line of campaign posters where sonic is shaking GW Bushes hand.

This week a decision was finally made about the legality of mod chips, and they aint legal no more. This struck me as odd, since mod chips do have two very valid uses, the first is it allows import gamers to play import games without having to shell out the massive amount of money to own more than one of the same console, so they can play the hundreds of great games that don’t get a PAL release The second point is when u buy a game u are buying the right to privately enjoy the intellectual property of that game, the disc is just a way of delivering this. So owners of the disc are perfectly entitled to backup their game and play the backup. This means u don't have to shell out another £40 quid if your CD stops working (This often occurs in the form of taking much longer to load, or music stopping) due to general wear and tear (something that has happened to a lot of my most played games) (It also allows bedroom coders to play around with their own games on their consoles) Ok so it does facilitate piracy, but it also has other valid uses. Look at guns they have no other use than to kill things but it is still legal to own one. If someone decides to use it in a way that is illegal the consequences are much more serious than piracy yet we see no movement to illegalise them. Y, because the bottom line is if some dude shoots another dude it has no major effect on lining some fat -cats pocket. But as soon as something which has valid uses begins to effect the lining of pockets of those fat cats governments bend over backwards to accommodate them.
