Why does a game have to do anything new to be good? The aspect of Bioshock that impresses me the most is the atmosphere it creates through it's imerrsive world, that's what drew me in a gave me a spectacular experience (I'm not that far through yet, I'm in the gardens of arcadia). One thing I did find was that lack of punishment of dying can lessen the urge to survive and make me gun-hoe, I rectified that by ceasing to play every time I died, that way I'm always desperate to survive as I don't want stop and that desperation made the world terrrifying at times.

What shocks me the most is how many publishers are looking to replicate EA’s success by stifling innovation and squeezing old (quite) good ideas and IPs for all they can. One thing they seem to forget is that the original of many of EA's serial games are well made and often innovative and that is why they were able to capture peoples’ loyalty, allowing the cash in to commence in subsequent years. Another flaw in this plan is that there seems to be a growing apathy towards the homogeneity currently present in games, observable through EA admitting it needs to employ new strategies. It really distresses me how much of the money within games seems to be controlled by those that have little appreciation of quality; I assume this is often because they are not gamers. It is still probably one of the few industries you can enter while holding the product of the industry in low esteem. (I’m mainly thinking of executive and post-development roles and I assume this will change as gamers become more varied an numerous)

Even if they are based on real places the levels still need to be designed, the fact that those levels have been designed for one game (the exclusivity) is not affected by whether the inspiration for the design is real or imaginary. The only examples that pop to my mind where levels are not exclusively designed for a game is when a sequel has its predecessors levels in it.

I was curious to see how people regarded these two, especially those from outside the UK, I remember my left wing great aunt from Canada was very pro Blair at first but that morphed into hatred as his term went on. I greatly disliked the style over substance approach that characterised Blair's premiership, but I feel with Cameron as an opponent Brown will be forced to continue a heavy reliance on spin. I think he was a competent but overly respected as a chancellor, he greatly benefited from a strong foundation and a strong world economy, and feel that in the last few years the economy has been mismanaged in an attempt to avoid recession, however this will probably only make the inevitable (and in my mind necessary) recession more severe.
