any quality film stock with smaller aperture lens would completely demolish the level of detail attainable with DP (noting here that focus is an optical phenomenon that happens because of the lenses, and has nothing to do with how lights are captured, be it film or CCD).... But I guess with advancement of CCD technology it will eventually beat film. edit: sorry for being nickpicky... I realize that what you said is generally true since CCDs usually have bigger smaller (thanks for the correction brkl) surface area than film. But to say that "digital can be more in focus than film" is almost analogous to saying "laptops are slower than desktops". I know it's generally true, but I can't help pointing out "hey.... not always!" double edit! not to mention that CCDs usually are more sensitive to light than film. I shoulda mentioned that.

Not without bending the laws of physics first! :þ

yeah, those stair steps seem very frustrating. I'm gonna wait and see if there's a patch to make them easier for people who suck at games like me.
-
yeah but then "plug your stuff" thread would turn into discussion about mature games and that would be weird.

Yeah, seems like their number is based on # of downloads. I think I download at least twice when I buy digitally. 25% seems way inflated. More like 24%.

Wow, this could've been an awesome 3DS launch title.

CivIII Complete is also on sale! $1.25 $1.25 that can destroy your life.

Buh? Really?? That's really surprising, seeing as how 2K is the one that started this whole "limited activations" mess.

I won't argue that mac or pc is better for music engineering, but latency on windows is pretty much non-issue due to ASIO drivers that are supported by practically every soundcard and every professional music/audio software.

let's see... a tower defense game, a brawler, rts, twinstick shooter, etc... not very "artsy" games - not the sort that'd be impressed or inspired by flotilla anyway, i suppose.

Yeah it's definitely the turn-based thing. One of them seem to have problem with stylized graphics. And said that Civilization is stupid as well. I really shouldn't take their opinions seriously. Oh yeah and they make indie games in their spare time (go figure).

I just showed screenshots and gameplay videos of this game to fellow co-workers, and their response was "wow, this looks boring" I'm incredibly distressed by the response, especially coming from gamers. I just want to yell out "wtf is wrong with you people??" Gaah

100% agree. Plus (if I recall correctly) there was nothing to do in the city - no side missions, no stats, no money, no stores, nothing. Also.... for some reason the draw distance in that game really bothered me.

Maybe the game designers will appear in the form of NPCs in the world.

Roger Ebert rehashes old debate even indie hipsters are tired of

My 2 cents... I tend to think of "art" as more of a discipline of study, much like science and math (though sometimes they cross over, like discovery of perspectives). The actual artwork is an end product of the study. Looking at most major art movements through history, they're trying to solve a specific problem that hadn't been solved. They often collectively pursue a common goal. Some are supremely successful (eg impressionism, which revolutionized and birthed many modern movements). some are just dead-ends (eg a lot of post modern movements). I mean, it's very easy to question the nature of art when you see a painting like this (thanks elmuerte) and it could've just as easily been done by a child. But without understanding what problem it's trying to solve, yo're only seeing half the story. For example, post modern movement, abstract paintings specifically, is trying to solve an impossibly difficult problem. That is: "You don't need lyrics in music to like or hate it - it can provoke emotion without any sort of context. Can we do the same thing with fine art? Can it strike emotional chords in its audience without any sort of actual subject matter?" None have really succeeded as you can imagine, but they're still at it, trying all sorts of things, good lord. But knowing that, I say "wow, what terrible work" rather than "wow, I can't believe this is called art" -
Personally I recommend NOLF1 (which I loved) over NOLF2 (which I hated). It's not me trying to be elitist or anything... I liked everything about NOLF2 except that the designers are trying to "encourage" you to play each level in some specific manner and it felt very constricting.

I always got a kick out of all the extra goodies that came with a PC game that seemed straight out of its universe! It's like the greatness of it couldn't be contained in mere digital form so part of it is creeping out into the real world. I dunno if it's because I got old and lost that child's ability to pretend shit, but I can never feel as immersed in games these days as with the old ones that let me hold an actual object from its world in my hands. Manuals, I couldn't care less.

Not sure what you mean by "complete" type mod, but there are total conversions like TNM.

sin: i hope your post is not a direct reply to me, because i never meant to say that ipods weren't feature-rich (i was only focused on usability), nor did i say that they were successful only because they're sexy (read my 2nd last post again if you don't believe me).
-
I don't think iPods were easier (or harder, to be fair) to use than the competition. but I've seen the same argument many times and wondered how it came about. Then I saw this. This study has been repeated multiple times because it's so unbelievable. so anyway, IMHO iPod was successful primarily because it looked so sexy. It boosted the apparent usability of the device, and probably it helped it cross the tech device boundary and become a fashion statement.

Amazon.com sellers seem to sell new copies for $15 or so. Probably Jewelcase editions, but you wouldn't be missing much. The original game didn't come with a thick juicy manual, cloth map, rub-on tattoo, or anything. I think you need to download microsoft's compatibility toolkit (free from ms website) and set up some directx emulation stuff to play on a modern windows os. don't remember the details.

I don't think Baldur's Gate series or Planescape: Torment has been mentioned anywhere in this thread, so... there you go. Unmatched RPG classics. Oh yeah, Fallout too.

I think Mr. Jake should do UI and opening title sequence for ALL games. I mean not just Telltale games. 3 more days! I'm giddy.
