  1. Embarrassing Awkward Nerd Confessions

You forgot the eyebrow!! It's damn impressive work nevertheless.
  2. Nintendo 3DS

Wouldn't 3DS cost the same as DSXL after the price cut?
  3. Fourza Motorsport

I'm looking forward to this one primarily to drive around the Top Gear test track in a reasonably priced car.
  4. General Video Game Deals Thread

All 4 oddworld games for $5 is pretty good deal.
  5. Which GTA to play?

Vice City for sure! no need to explain, really.
  6. Ocarina of Time 3D

I don't remember them from the forest temple, or other zelda games (i guess they weren't too much of a nuisance in other places?). I remember that I had to be ever so vigilant whenever I entered a different room, which doesn't mesh well with my relaxed, laid back playing style. I wasted massive amount of time because I didn't react fast enough and eventually ended up throwing the controller against the wall. And you needed to roll away at the precise timing if I recall correctly. the shadow would follow if you simply moved (or rolled too soon). I really hate these things. Worst video game villain ever.
  7. capcom doesn't want my money

The thing is there's no technical reason why they couldn't reset save data. The only natural conclusion is to curb used sales, unless somebody has a better explanation.
  8. Ocarina of Time 3D

Is that the one after the water temple where a dismembered hand randomly drops from the ceiling and takes you back to the beginning of the dungeon? I got really angry at that dungeon and never picked it up again. edit: ah, it's the shadow temple i was thinking of. screw this game.
  9. The great Valve re-play

Yeah... "no loading screen" is a bit misleading. And come to think of it, the way portal 2 did it isn't really that bothersome since you can't really get lost after a loading screen (either you get out of the elevator or you don't). Deus Ex did it horribly - it had half-life thing going on, but the camera position and orientation didn't carry over from one section to another, so the first time I encountered the loading screen (entering the unatco headquaters on liberty island) I got confused and walked right back out.
  10. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Oh i'm not disputing that you said 4.5" screen - you asked whether I was talking about iphone screen or android screen, so I responded iphone screen (because that's what I have). And I totally agree that UI should scale with pixel density. Not all mobile games do that because they're usually designed with one platform in mind and lazily ported over - but in wiiu's case Nintendo could've used a something like iphone 4G display, and give developers strict guidelines such as everything being legible at 2 feet or whatever. My personal preference is to sacrifice pixel density for bigger screen so that it can hold more visual information at comfortable arm's length.
  11. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I'm just saying that smaller screen with much higher screen density displays text and pictures that are too tiny, which requires me to physically bring the phone closer to my eyes, and it's is stressful to my arms. The same content on much bigger screen lets me keep my arms straight.
  12. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

It's iphone(3.5"?) vs 10.1" tablet which has almost ten times the screen area estate. It wouldn't bother me much using a slightly smaller screen at closer distance, except I'm suffering from RSI and keeping my elbows bent is painful as all hell.
  13. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Perhaps, but there are ergonomics to consider - I don't know if that's what Nintendo had in mind (for all i know they chose to go with 6.2" screen because it's cheaper) but I find using a tablet way more comfortable than using a phone for gaming/web browsing because I can hold it at arm's length instead of slouching over the screen or holding it up to my face.
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Frankly I'm surprised that the screen is so high-res. at 6.2", it's pretty much the same pixel density as the original iphone (~160ppi). Chances are you won't even see the pixels if they're rendering properly anti-aliased and/or filtered.

  16. The great Valve re-play

I was a massive FPS fan around the time Half-Life came out. Played probably most of them, or at least demos for ones I couldn't get my hands on. Half-Life was definitely an eye opener. It was the first game that I felt genuinely scared in an FPS because it's so damn immersive. It's not just the "always first person" thing either - there was a degree of authenticity to the game world that was lacking in other games prior. I think it had to do with unpredictability of it all. Before Half-Life, I knew what to expect from a shooter. They all had patterns that you learn quickly. Static world. Separated by levels. Keycards. Monster closets. Etc. I guess Half-Life carried some of them over, but arranged them so naturally that it didn't feel like a *game* So yeah, it may have aged horribly, but I'll always remember it fondly as the first shooter to scare the crap out of me.
  17. Portal 2

Just done playing co-op. What an amazing thing that was. But I can't imagine myself doing it again (maybe after an amnesia). I imagine it's a very frustrating experience for both players if one knows the solutions and the other doesn't. Probably boring if both know the solutions. Did they mention anything about additional content post-release?
  18. Good Old GOG

I'm a fan of Tex Murphy games. Also Gabriel Knight series, but chances are you played them already.
  19. Portal 2

Been thinking about it a bit more. Wondering why, even though it's superior to original in almost every way, I didn't enjoy it as much as the original. Could be just expectations, but there might be more to it than that.
  20. Portal 2

! can't believe I forgot about that part.
  21. Portal 2

Man, the presentation is flawless. I really dig the dynamic music stuff. Lighting, shadows, atmospheric effects all do amazing job conveying the sense of scale.
  22. The Plague of Visual C++ Redis.

Yeah it's pretty ugly to look at. My guess is that MS treat redistributables as regular programs because they didn't want to put people through windows update/genuine advantage bullshit whenever installing new programs. It'd be nice to have some options to hide or delete stuff from this list without touching the registry.
  23. The Plague of Visual C++ Redis.

Actually the older versions of visual c++ let you statically link c runtimes to the binaries (meaning the users never had to install runtime redistributables because essentially every game/program's exe contained the runtime inside it), but for various reasons they decided to make them separate. It's actually an improvement, believe it or not. They're pretty harmless and don't bog down the system, so ignore them.
  24. (Unconfirmed)Telltale tackles.. KING'S QUEST?

Whoa, I completely forgot about the last 2 LSL games. I must've blocked them from my mind or something. It's disappointing that they don't have digital downloads for LSL series, but then I'm not sure how fun LSL7 would be without the scratch&sniff pad. Maybe they could mail them or something.
  25. (Unconfirmed)Telltale tackles.. KING'S QUEST?

I would LOVE (literally) another LSL game. Isn't Al Lowe always looking for work anyways?
