  1. DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

Medium at 1024x768???? holy crap. must be something wrong with my desktop. But it's just Doom 3. All other 3D games run much smoother on 9600 Pro. My desktop is a P4 2.0Ghz before 0.13m manufacturing process stuff, with only 256kb level 2 cache and slow fsb and slow ram and everything, so maybe that's got something to do with it. (my notebook computer is a 1.4ghz centrino with 1mb l2 cache) What are your computer's specs?
  2. DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

I'm getting much higher framerate on my shoddy Radeon 9000 than on my Radeon 9600 Pro. Even at the lowest detail. at 640x480. with all special effects turned off. even with the latest beta drivers. and the latest chipset drivers for my motherboard. MADDENING!!!
  3. Web Addiction Gets Conscripts Out of Army

heh, if koreans could be excused from draft with web/mmorpg addiction, South korea would have no army.
  4. A Planet Of Ball

    Boing Bonk Whooosh very creative.
  5. Star Wars...

5 movies, and I still cant' figure out what "REVENGE" they're talking about.
  6. Intro Sequences in Games

Oh shit, how can I forget MECHWARRIOR 2!!!! I remember playing NetMech or something for Mechwarrior 2 on the internet, and everyone sucked because low ping 1337 bastards weren't that common back then. So much fun. The intro to Mechwarrior 2 rocked! Didn't Digital Domain do the prerendered animations? I didn't exactly react the same way goldstone did... it was more like "OMFG, F F F F F F!!!!!"
  7. Andy Rules

I was drooling over Ultima 9's graphics when it was first previewd. at the time there weren't any games that looked better. Wasn't expecting much of gameplay (since previous ultima rpgs werent' all that great in that respect). But bugs... who knew.
  8. Rate your own and each other's avatars

I think my avatar is pretty awesome. because it's me. cartoonized.
  9. One of these days I'm gonna actually watch the movie.
  10. Intro Sequences in Games

I thought the intro to Ultima VI was pretty cool. and Warcraft2. and Sam & Max hit the road and Black & White
  11. Rate your own and each other's avatars

    It's Gary Oldman, fools
  12. Scamming Scammers

http://p-p-p-powerbook.com/ What surprises me the most is the P-p-powerbook's uncanny resemblence to the actual Apple Powerbook.
  13. Damn Centipedes

My room is infested with centipedes and earwigs! I don't get it. Why are they in my room??? I have no houseplant and I throw out my garbage! There's nothing to eat here except me! And why do they hide behind my bed?? I need to sleep!!
  14. Scamming Scammers

Outrageous! REminds me of the P-P-Powerbook story
  15. Damn Centipedes

A condition that plagues all programmers, I'm sure!
  16. Damn Centipedes

I hate this place. I'm living nearby a lake, so every time I walk to school, bugs hit my face and some get into my mouth. In Fall, ladybugs are everywhere and they get into my pockets and shirt sleeves. I used to like bugs as a kid and used to play with them, but now I just can't stand them. I don't care if they've got 6 legs or 8 legs or 12000 legs or.....
  17. Fur rendering?

I think what you're describing actually corresponds to step 4 of my previous post. Some games (eg black and white 2, I noticed) skip all previous "base mesh" & "shells" steps and go straight to fins. it seems to work well too, although upon close up it looks rather ugly.
  18. I don't want nobody crack open my skull and put some junk in my brains that will be outdated in 3 years!!! Force Lift Challenge sounds like such an intriguing game though.
  19. Fur rendering?

Rendering individual hair as splines is incredibly expensive. most video cards have hardware support for them, but it's never used for fur (in games). The way they do it in games is this: 1 draw mesh with base texture 2 expand the entire mesh based on its normal and render second pass with alpha texture as cross sections of individual hair (this would look like a set of dots) 3 repeat step 2 many many times (like, 8) 4 for the next pass, extrude random edges from the mesh as polys and apply alpha fur texture (this would look like grass blades). if the polys are facing the cam, they're opaque. fade otherwise. of course it's a lot faster if all the geometry is preprocessed and ready to render without having to expand, extrude and reapply texture to polygons. It seems like a stupid method but nobody has come up with a better idea yet.
  20. Fur rendering?

The real time fur effect paper published by microsoft was back in DirectX7 days. (and i'm sure there are more papers that predates it) Virtually all fur in games are based on the same technique. So yeah it's not new. It's just that the cards weren't fast enough to do it until now.
  21. Quote of the Moment - Doug Lowenstein

I always thought it'd be interesting to see Adaptation the Game, where the player character is assigned the impossible task of adapting Adaptation the movie into a video game. It would start off as an adventure game... then as the character attends the game developers seminar, all hell would break loose and turn into a zombie killing fps. oh what fun
  22. Shaun of the wha? Never heard of it.
  23. Thief Gold is full of shit

Platinum version of the regular thief: the dark project seems to have no trouble whatsoever with Win2000 nor WinXP.
  24. Episodic format a good idea?

yeah, I'm speaking entirely from a gamer's point of view (mainly me)
  25. Episodic format a good idea?

I think it's a bad idea, only because there's no guarantee that any subsequent episodes will be produced unless the first one is a hit... Unless they're all made and released simulateneously -then it may be interesting.
