  1. There's no reply, you just gain the ability to see the forum.
  2. Infinite Jest

There's also Wallace's essay collection Consider the Lobster. I recently read that and found it incredibly absorbing. It's also quite accessible, since all the essays were originally published (in abridged form) as long-form magazine journalism. In all likelihood, we'd end up reading Infinite Jest before The Pale King, since I think it's the kind of thing a lot of people would like an "excuse" to read.
  3. Infinite Jest

    Agreed.
  4. Idle Thumbs Progresscast The Eighth One Join us, readers, as we descend into the dark bowels of Minecraft servers and secret holes, only to find the quietest place in the world. (That place is absolutely guaranteed not to be the Idle Thumbs office in its current state.) It has been over a week since the last Progresscast, and so in an attempt to secure your forgiveness we have cast an extra-long pod. We hope it pleases you, with a depth that might surprise you. You would do well to read this fascinating article on a particularly silent room before listening to this cast, as we entirely neglected to explain what it's actually about before launching into a related discussion. Finally, thanks for your patience! We're starting to get increasingly exciting evidence of progress on rewards, and we can't wait to show you. Vincent's painting is essentially complete, and we got some early test samples of the gold foil The Wizard shirt, both of which have exceeded our expectations. Things are happening! Also, this is a public Progresscast. So go ahead and share it with your friends! They love a cast pod, surely, just as they love a video game. DIRECT DOWNLOAD MP3 AUDIO FILE
  5. I haven't although I am definitely interested.
  6. Idle Thumbs Motorcycle Club

    Vanaman better get in here.
  7. Yeah, I'm sure it's been said earlier in this thread already, but we don't really intend to choose books like The Hunger Games. Merit aside, as you pointed out, you don't need to look far to find plenty of other people already recommending examples from that general category of book. I'm not sure there would be much point in yet another source already doing so.
  8. Favorite early cancelled TV series

I definitely don't agree with this. Twin Peaks resolves completely midway through the second season. The whole rest of the show is a writeoff for me--when I rewatch it, I don't even keep watching the end. The first season and a half feel totally complete for me, I don't think it would have gained much by continuing for more seasons.
  9. Zorro Joins Double Fine

We have. Zorro is a sole proprietorship owned by me.
  10. Yeah, I mean that's true in theory, but as DIUM says, it's just nearly impossible to actually acquire the GameCube game at this point. Nintendo games seem particularly susceptible to this kind of thing.
  11. Can anyone use Dreamweaver?

Are you referring to straightforward code editors like Notepad++ or are you referring to more web-specific software?
  12. I'd actually prefer fewer changes--I'd love if there were a pure GameCube control mode but I don't expect it. The reason I say that is because we want to try and do a few goofy Pikmin 2 videos with commentary, in the vein of StarCraft 2 pro competition, and I'm less convinced of the appropriateness of remote/pointer-based controls for competitive play than I am about a typical controller. Obviously I'll just play it and see, but pretty much every game I've played with a pointer requires really finely controlled pointing without the grounding you get with a mouse on a table or a firmly grasped controller--it gets tougher over time to maintain precision. Pikmin 2 is pretty goofy and we're more interested in this because it's hilarious than for any other reason, but we do also entirely honestly play it pretty competitively.
  13. Zorro Joins Double Fine

    Thanks guys!
  14. How does the point system work? I don't see it explained on the About page. Edit: Never mind, apparent upon registration! This site seems cool! Very clean and useful.
  15. New people: Read this, say hi.

Any way you want to do it is fine. If you want to preserve your old post history and join date, I'm happy to change that account name.
  16. Welcome to the relatively soft launch of the Three Moves Ahead forums. Our plan over time is for this place to get a bit more of its own identity, but in the meantime we still wanted a place for the 3MA community to gather to discuss strategy games, the podcast, and whatever else. More to come!
  17. Can any Europeans explain the differences between this and the GameCube version? What specifically is the remote used for? Is it possible to play it with a GameCube controller?
  18. Zorro Joins Double Fine

    Thanks guys!
  19. New people: Read this, say hi.

I can simply change the name on your old account if you'd prefer.
  20. Shadowrun Kickstarter

I'm sure any game that is funded through Kickstarter and completed will be available for purchase eventually. The reason these creators are doing Kickstarter campaigns is so they end up with a game they can release.
  21. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I agree with part of what you're saying but I think you're looking at it the wrong way. I think far too many games are centered around violence--but I don't think the solution to that is to just still have the violence but provide less evidence of it. If you're running around shooting people in the head as your sole method of interacting the world, I think the least the game can do is remind you of that. It seems to me the more legitimate alternative is for more games not to be about that kind of thing in the first place.
  22. Board Game Daydreams

I love Imperial 2030. It's definitely one of my favorite board games. Back before I left San Francisco, for a couple months the Idle Thumbs crew had a weekly Imperial 2030 game. Now that I'm back in SF we haven't actually played it again yet but I'm looking forward to doing so.
  23. Idle Thumbs Progresscast #9

Nah, I don't think so. Some folks are confused by us getting the amount of money we did, but I don't think we've had any real accusations of misuse.
  24. Idle Thumbs Progresscast #9

Kickstarter funding wasn't used to buy Sean's computer.
