  1. Deadworm is incorrect. On the other hand, Kingz is correct.
  2. Is GameSpot Complete worth it?

You PAY for MAGAZINES!>? What are you, some kind of CORPORATE CAPITALIST PIG WHORE!? !?LI$"H
  3. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

Some of the AG forumites among you might remember my vigorous tirades against piracy. I firmly believe in supporting developers you appreciate, and if you don't want to buy a game, don't play it. Games are not a right by any means, and despite what some of us might like to believe they are not essential for life or happiness. I buy VERY few games, because I don't have tons of money to spend on them, but I tend to buy games I'm pretty sure about, and it works out well.
  4. Is GameSpot Complete worth it?

See Jake's reply below. And yes, I like it. GameSpot helps me learn about the industry and what's going on it it, which I find important as a gamer. Also as I write news for two gaming websites they have been an enormous resource for me. Believe me, that $30/year (that's what, $2.50/month or something?) is not hurting anything. $30 is less than the price of one game. Let's be generous and say I could buy a new game for $30. The scenario you're protesting is that over a six month period I am presumably buying one less game? Considering I occasionally buy bad games, maybe it's a good thing that I'm buying one less game (which is an unlikely scenario anyway) since I'll be more discerning about it, and thus the industry is helped because one less person bought a copy of an undeserving game. And, if by some ludicrous chance this is still not acceptable to you, consider this: I save 10% from ebgames.com with my membership, and am only charged $1.99 for shipping, encouraging me to spend money on games anyway. Yes, paying server costs and funding the salaries of the full-time employees who work for GameSpot. Since I have used their service for years and will continue to use it for years to come, I have a vested interest in keeping their site alive. I would be greatly disappointed if they shut down and I had to rely on some shit like IGN because not enough of their regular readers decided to subscribe. It's worrying to me that the internet is still such a relatively new part of society and already people are finding the thought of paying for content services absurd. Ever heard of magazines? Newspapers? Cable TV? Sure, the overhead for websites is lower and the costs associated come from different places, but they still need money to function. There are plenty of people out there who suck up more GameSpot bandwidth than I do (downloading more videos etc.), but I acknowledge that the vast majority of them will take advantage of GameSpot's generous offer to provide that stuff for free. For that reason as well as the several others I have already outlined, I have decided that that one site (that ONE site--I can't believe you're making such an issue out of me paying a measly $2.50/month to ONE SITE) deserves my patronage.
  5. Alien Hominid

There's a flash demo, and it totally rules. The art direction is great. Essentially, it's crazy-ass alien meets Contra (in that it's a super fast pased side-scrolling shooter that's fucking hard as hell). One hit kills you. I had to play it about a thousand times to beat the demo level, but by the time you manage to do that you're pro. Button mashers need not apply.
  6. When did you break your first joystick?

Looks like I was just in the nick of time!
  7. When did you break your first joystick?

Assuming you're talking about Yufster: Before she attempts to convince you of some bizzare and imagined attention-grabbing "fact" about her life, I'll just intervene and inform you that she's 18.
  8. Tell Us About Yourself

  9. Tell Us About Yourself

A ratchet is a type of tool. The emoticon label is a misspelling on Kingz' part. It should be "ratchet", as in Nurse Ratched, a detestable character from the book/film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The name is presumably derived from the name of the tool (possibly combined with "wretched").

6 posts now! You're moving up in the world/forums!
  11. Yeah, bad Hollywood music sucks.
  12. Traditions and Customs of your country.

Yeah, they would. In fact they still do, it's just harder to do outside of Chit Chat.
  13. Goodbye, Ion Storm; Thief: DS demo now available

Who else would recognize friggin members of the Bitmap Brothers walking around a convention?
  14. Traditions and Customs of your country.

    Chit chat posts don't count.
  15. Is GameSpot Complete worth it?

No, if you read his post he's clearly implying that he sees Ice as the only benefit. It doesn't mean it would be ENOUGH of a benefit for him to pay, since I assume he doesn't currently subscribe.
  16. Where are you from?

    Well, you'd be AG/other, probably.
  17. Goodbye, Ion Storm; Thief: DS demo now available

Well, whaddya know. That was releasd in 1998. Was it their first game?

  19. Aliens invade Mexico

He's played it at Jake's house a bit, but as far as I know not more than that. Marek?
  20. Blue Shift: postcards from Barney

Man, you're making me all nostalgic and stuff. Now I wanna go play Half-Life, but I'm stuck in Rome with this goofy European computer.
  21. Is GameSpot Complete worth it?

That's not why I subscribe to them. There are a few things I like about Complete. For one thing, Complete members get access to the faster download servers, which is nice. Also, there's the Ice skin, and before anyone says TAHTS NOT ENOUGH OF A RAESON TO SUBSCRIBE!!!!1, yes I know it's not, it's just a nice bonus. I like getting 10% off at EBGames.com, which comes with Complete. Finally, I actually enjoy GameSpot's content, and they have been my primary gaming news source since long before they offered Complete. They strike me as having a good degree of journalistic integrity compared to most of the other big sites out there (IGN, etc.) and in addition to the other crap I get, I feel that the subscription fee I pay just goes towards supporting them in general. I mean, information on the internet is free anyway, I can afford to give a small subscription fee to ONE SITE which I've been reading for six or seven years now.

Argh, this again? Your country is still retarded. It's MINIATURE GOLF. MINIATURE GOLF!
  23. Goodbye, Ion Storm; Thief: DS demo now available

I was just including all Ion Storm-developed games. Ion Storm wasn't always as associated with Spector as it is now, and he hasn't designed all of its games.
  24. Goodbye, Ion Storm; Thief: DS demo now available

Er, how so? They've only released five games, in the following order (someone correct me if I'm wong): Daikatana Deus Ex Anachronox Invisible War Thief 3 Their worst game, which most would agree was Daikatana, was released four years ago. After Deus Ex, when you claim they were going downhill, they released Anachronox. That game was very well received, and seems to have aged even better. It doesn't have quite the critical acclaim garnered to DE, but calling it a step down would be a bit unfair. Their next game was IW, which obviously didn't do as well as their previous two efforts, but they followed up with Thief 3, which has been getting some of their best reviews yet.
