I'm not so sure "If you're better than anyone else at something or other, fuck everyone else" isn't something that's encouraged in the US. I mean, maybe when you're in kindergarten it's not, but... EDIT: I was going to further explain my opinions on the movie's message, but never mind. It doesn't really belong in this thread I guess.

Eh, I've seen worse.
-
Geeeez, it sounds even more ridiculous now!
-
I used to watch tons of it, but I haven't seen it in a few years. I love how simultaneously goofy and hardcore the drivers are (or, I assume still are, anyway). It's bizarre that it's entertaining even when they're driving around a Fiat Shitbox LS, but then when they bring out the ridiculous supercars it's entertainment overload.
-
Yep, exactly.

I agree with you in terms of the movie's message; it's not one I would support generally. However, I gave it credit for HAVING a message that wasn't something like "Friends are good" or "Help other people" as is the case in pretty much every other general-audience animated film.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Well, this is the first Pixar movie I've seen that, until the end, I really enjoyed for ALL aspects all the way through, which is why it was disappointing. While I loved Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc., it's a given that they didn't exactly have the deepest characters in the world and so forth. Pixar has been leading their field with what they do, but I feel like The Incredibles is certainly their most mature offering yet, which is why it was more difficult for me to say "Well, if the kids liked it..." Generally their films appeal to both kids and adults, but with some of The Incredibles it felt like "Well, kids might enjoy this part, who knows, but the adults definitely will." It seemed like Pixar had a different approach to this one; so do I.

The NRA pries a video game from the industry's COLD DEAD HANDS! Yay.
Chris replied to Jaero's topic in Video Gaming
There are actually dozens of games very similar to this. Most of them just don't sell in mainstream gaming retailers. -
If you thought that was a highlight, you missed about a million awesome things about this movie.

To me, almost the whole movie felt believable. Even though there were super powers and the like, the world felt like it was existing withing a cohesive and well-defined world, and the characters were staggeringly well-realized. Then there's just this baby with a ludicrous array of powers, and when it turned into some beast-thing, I was completely over it. It even reminded me of that idiotic Son of the Mask (I think) movie that's coming out, which is definitely not a good thing. The baby could have just done the flames thing, which would have served precisely the same purpose, had the same element of surprise, and not be totally over the top and unnecessary. The presence of the baby is one of the biggest reasons I hope there's not a sequel. I'd hate to see what the presence of such a gimmicky device would do to such a character-driven world (surely there would be a few too many cheap gags and the like). As far as general complains about the ending, I was sort of disappointed that they went with the general blockbuster action-scene ending, since my least favorite parts of the film as a whole were definitely the action scenes (which were entertaining enough but in reality when they were occuring I just wanted to get back to the characters of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl). I know that there weren't many other options, and it would have taken a ridiculous amount of balls (a trillion and a half, perhaps) to not have an action ending, and probably a lot of people would have thought it was lame, but I was really hoping they'd fine some way to end the film without a big explody bit. It was sort of redeemed by the absolutely excellent tongue-in-cheek presence of The Underminer, however, which was of course absolutely excellent. EDIT: Here is a New York Times times review of the film which with I agree 100%. It is a glowing recommendation until it describes the ending, and the reviewer's opinions of that are pretty much the same as mine. For the record, I didn't find this review until several days after seeing the film on opening night and my opinions were already well-formulated; I didn't read this review then decide that's what I thought. Again, with the exception of the bit about the ending, the review is completely positive, as am I. Here's the last paragraph: EDIT: Son of the MASK, not MAST. Geez.

What about it looks like a hoax? There are lots of games like this; they're mainly just an extension of Deer Hunter. It's a real game. -
I admit I had a few problems with the film, particularly the ending (and particularly particularly the ridiculous baby), but on the whole I thought it was excellent and is surely my favorite Pixar film. Brad Bird pretty much is awesome.

Are you sure? EA tends to generally hold that honor.

I got that press release too and almost posted on Idle News about it... -
I remembering thinking the same thing thing when I moved up from the second-highest Heroic mode to the hardest, Legendary, on Halo 2... Ha ha...

Of course, Ghost in the Shell didn't come out until almost 15 years after her script was written... And your point has SOME merit, but that's just how genres work; almost any action movie or buddy comedy or whatever has the same basic formula, but they're still different movies. Once someone comes up with a good idea, it's often emulated and just becomes a facet of the genre.

Ah, I see. That doesn't really bother me. Considering Pixar's standards of quality, it would take them just as long to make a sequel as an original film, and I'd rather just see a new one over a sequel any day.

Why does it suck?

I always knew the Wachowskis were hacks, now I can say it without getting criucified.

I definitely don't plan on buying WW. That game is already surely going to outsell SOT, and they don't need one more sale to confirm their idiotic demographic targetting.

TV addiction just doesn't get as much press anymore, since TV has been around so long, but there definitely are (and have been) people talking about it. Also, video game addiction tends to be more tangible than addiction to something like TV, because there's an actual action/response mechanism. Since you have the controller or mouse in your hand, you are controlling it rather than just being a passive observer. This actually does release more dopamine in your brain, which I suspect is why video games are becoming a more popular pasttime than television.

What's this from again? I remember it, and I remember it being rather hilarious, but I'm drawing a complete blank.
