1. Cars

Man this looked terrible when I saw the first teaser and it looks terrible now. The only reason this trailer was any better than the previous one is because they showed less actual dialogue. I saw an excerpt from the film at WonderCon and honestly it was crap. Some of the stuff looks fantastic, as is to be expected, but everything else is just uninspired and trite. Man I'm depressed about this.
2. First Metroid Prime Hunters review

That it's in all likelihood a good game...? One couldn't possibly say that every "FPS that IS" is automatically not worth playing simply because it's an FPS.
3. Delayed rewards in video games ?

What the fuck is this thread about? Why on earth would (or should) games give the same benefits to CREATING something? That's sort of an unfair comparison, don't you think? I can't even tell what people are arguing here. Yeah, playing video games won't give you tons of creative skills. What about making video games? Isn't that more comparable to making movies or playing an instrument?
4. Sonic the Hedgehog

It looks nice, but it doesn't mean it's going to be any easier to make Sonic work in 3D. What??
5. IRC Chat with Tetsuya Mizuguchi: Logged.

Well, in the 18th and 19th centuries, Eastern and Western cultures collided heavily, and that's still clearly evident in many aspects of society. It's particularly noticeable in music. All Eastern music, with pretty much the only exception being Japanese Noh, which is becoming rarer and rarer all the time, is completely based on the Western system. Even when you hear "Japanese" or "Chinese" music, it's really just Western music with superficial Asian elements. Attempts to resurrect ancient music (which don't even happen as often as you'd think) never succeed because literally none of it survived. The traditional music of those cultures doesn't really exist any more due to the fanatacism towards classical and romantic composers that went on in those countries for some time, and since the music of Asian cultures was orally recorded rather than written, it didn't take much for it to pretty much be lost entirely. I mean that's just one thing but there's a lot of adoption of culture that went on during those times, they didn't really stay separate.
6. Strategy to Go

I assume you heard Blizzard is contemplating putting StarCraft on the DS? Also, Age of Empires is coming to DS.
7. lik-sang 'jumble sale' old ninty merch.

Yeah they are. Adapters are made I think, though. :shifty:
8. Why Games Suck:

Sure, but he wasn't a nerdy software engineer first and a writer second, it was the other way around. Schafer wanted a career as a writer. He's a writer, with other hobbies such as programming, which he doesn't even do much of anymore.
9. Why Games Suck:

It's also worth noting that Schafer originally planned for a career as a short story author. When he got out of college he had a database job lined up but that was a "pay the bills" type of thing.
10. Why Games Suck:

Well, he was also a creative writing major, which says a lot.
11. Game Boy Micro? Why?

The color of the console itself is different than the faceplates, which are removable.
12. Game Boy Micro? Why?

I don't think that would be a good idea. For one thing, it would just be more incentive for designers to use touch screen functionality at all costs, even if it's stretching it quite a bit. Also, many people would surely use the top touch screen in such a way that it completely obscures the bottom one, and if you're going to be just looking at once screen as you're touching it, then you don't need two.
13. Game Boy Micro? Why?

While I agree that Metroid is the best use so far (I think anyone would agree with that), Meteos also uses it to good effect. You can select from a few different things to show on the top screen, including the most useful which is "video footage" of your opponent's screen while playing against a human or computer. It's really cool. Also, in most of the missions past the training ones, Advance Wars DS actually has a whole separate front going on in the top screen, which is really cool. You can choose to fight both yourself or you can have the computer fight the second one based on general AI type you specify. Some games like Kirby just have a map up there, which is still a useful and good thing. It's better than pressing Start all the time and pausing your game if you don't actually want to pause it.
14. PSP in Europe

Yeah same here. Even so I still keep thinking maybe I should get some protectors but after reading this thread I guess there's no point.
15. Sorry to pimp an article for another site, but I have an article up about gaming retail and you might want to read it, maybe? The choice is yours!
16. Games you ignore (licenses, kid's games).

Nintendo games! Man, that shit is for kids only.
17. An article for your perusal

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Some claim there wasn't enough evolution from Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Sunshine, but I think even that reaction displays how accustomed people are to Nintendo constantly bringing new elements to the table.
18. "This Crazy Industry"

Never written 'em before. My bad!
19. Why games feel irrelevant?

I'm going to be a huge bastard and post in this thread after it's closed because I didn't get to be in it before. I'd just like to say that it's lame that Yufster never responded to this: Katamari Damacy really was one part of his larger goal to achieve world peace and make the world a better place. So what makes Walter's interpretation so fucking unthinkable? ARGH THAT TAKAHASHI IS SO PRETENTIOUS WHAT A BASTARD HE SHOULD JUST FUCKING PLAY GAMES EDIT: Argh ok Yufster did apparently notice that, my bad. However she didn't really address it.
20. Karimi's Guide to Joining Idle Forums

What error? It's an 8 slot bag.
21. How did you lose your gaming virginity ?

Well it definitely wasn't the game that got me into games in general, but the one that really made me a true gamer was also Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. From that point on, I played a shitload of games. I played pretty much all of the LucasArts adventure games that existed at the time and many of the Sierra ones then branched out from there.
