It's true. And old news. Romero is not known as a family man.

To the bat cave war room!

Meh. Not enough difference with the topics that would then be covered in General Gaming. We can start thinking about branching out the forums a little more, but we probably shouldn't do it with a previews forum. (If anyone has additional suggestions for forums don't hold back.) Edit: I thought about your suggestion some more and there's a possibility it could rule. To the bat cave!

I'd like to think of these threads as Thumb's way of doing previews.

I would agree with you if Doom 3 did in fact not have a plot, no e-mails you need to read and computer screens you need to manipulate, no "modern atmospheric story game" pretentions. But it does. Based on all that I've heard (and my whopping 15 minutes of play time), it's not the pure Doom1/Painkiller style shoot-all-you-can-it-doesn't-matter gameplay. As Spaff says, it's like System Shock without the RPG. I will now stop commenting on Doom 3 until I've actually properly played it. (Yeah, right.)

I fear that's what's going to be my opinion on Doom 3. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I wonder that too. Especially now that the distribution channel isn't just a bunch of obscure BBSes, but the whole freakin' internet. Getting 1/3 of a game for free would actually encourage people to not warez the other 2/3 if it's a good game. Especially if circumventing the whole publisher->distributor->smaller distributor->game store chain makes the game like 20-30 bucks. I guess back in ye olde days, shareware games could match or even surpass the production values of retail games, which is so much more difficult these days.

At E3 2005, we should really pick a clueless victim at the nVIDIA or ATI booths and ask repeatedly about texture mapping and non-orthogonal walls.

Uhhh, no. See? This is why I deleted it

What really ruled about Keen 4-6 was the world map though. I think it's actually the reason I didn't get into 1-3 much. The world map really changed the whole thing from a continuous progression, like "welcome to level 85" to "welcome to this new part of the world you're exploring". It was so awesome. Oh, and in Keen 6, on the worldmap, where you had to do something on the worldmap to get onto that space station... that ruled. And in Keen 4 with the whole pyramid area opening up. I really wanted to get to that place and when I finally found out how, I was overjoyed. What if Tom Hall never left id Software, I wonder? What would Doom have looked like?

Wait, who are you?

This conversation never happened.

No, Jake, pay attention. I posted something, then deleted it, and then I posted that was I initially posted wasn't a very good post.

Meh it wasn't a good post at all. If we're going to insult GWB it should be done properly.

I think Venice would make a cool location for GTA.

I love the awkward laughs in the audience in that clip.

That would be LA smog? (bleached?)

TechTV is ... a TeleVision station about Tech[nology stuff]. It now also incorporates the game television network G4, which is good when they're doing documentary-style stuff with voiceovers, but sucks horribly when it features studio presentations. They have that whole "yo, all you kids out there, sup?!" attitude, with shows that are called Sweat, Blister,Fresh Gear, Game Sauce, and so on. G4 crews are also horribly annoying at trade shows.
