The DS will need a couple of epic linear quest games eventually though, but yeah agreed totally. I played this game for a bit in multiplayer mode and hot damn it's a nice piece of side-scrolling stylus insanity. It has a really simple but addictive quality to it. I think it's because it immediately makes you feel super bad ass for being able to manage so many things with the stylus so fast.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a little bit lame, except for the brilliant (and often totally unrelated) intro bits at Dr. Weird's lab. IT BEGIIIIINS!
-
Wow they sure added lots of assets to their library.

Hero's Journey is their big secret? That's a lame secret.

Shit, there's at least ten items from that store that I want to have.

Gee, umm...

Makes you wonder what the Doom 3 engine-based Prey will look like...

Ok anyone got new movie recommendations? I'm all outta movies.

Watch it with friends and beers, not alone. That way you might get the same response that lailoken had...

This game needs a little je ne sais quoi. A bit of savoir-faire, a certain... raison d'etre. Heck, maybe some sucrer les fraises. Or maybe they should just not bother at all. I'm off to play the Psychonauts demo.

Saw Man Bites Dog on Wesnesday and it raped my mind. Holy shit. That movie is fucking brilliant but also ... shit. Shit. I felt sick and couldn't sleep all night. Then it continued to haunt me for two days. It just fucked me up. I've never had such a physical and mental reaction to a film. I'm sure it's partly the mindset I had when I went into it, but really the film is seriously fucked up no matter from what angle you approach it. It's a slice of genius, but one I'm not going to watch again, unless maybe if I'm really really really high.

Do you have a keyboard shortcut set up for that or something? Just asking.

Yeah, it's terrible. I saw Hulk Hogan there.

Firaxis has been known to be good to its employees and generally be non-evil, and now I noticed they updated their website to more accurately reflect that lack of evilness. It's a pretty awesome site. Not in terms of design per se, but the content has been quite nicely pulled together. I just thought I'd highlight that. There's bios of each and every employee, which is pretty cool. They even have bios of all their contractors. There's an "employee showcase". There's lots of stuff about things they're doing for their local community. There's a section dedicated to how their games as being used for teaching (even though the games weren't made with that in mind). And there's lots of nice photos. Generally their site just strikes me as something you don't really find elsewhere amongst game companies. They're a good (though extreme) example of what is pretty much the opposite of EA: they make games that sell, though they don't assrape their employees, and most of their games are of good quality too. They seem like a good company. Edit: they also link to the International Talk Like a Pirate Day website, which is total win.

Dimitri concept art. So will those trees grow dynamically?!?!??????

Ever since GDC 2004 I've felt not that excited about Dimitri. In the first slide of his presentation, Molyneux listed each innovation and/or USP for the current Lionhead projects. Like... Black & White - You're a God who commands a village and has a creature Fable - x-treme freedom RPG The Movies - Build your movie studio, create your own movies etc. etc. And at the bottom of the list it sais: Project Dimitri - All of the above.

C'mon you gotta help me with this. They had like ... huge heavily armored dinosaurs with rocket launchers and laser machines attached. There were two camps: the bad guys who kinda looked like dinosaurs and/or lizards themselves and who had the giant T-Rex with awesome fire power, and you had the humans who only had like some wussy raptors and triceratopses. The humans had much less firepower because they didn't want to saddle too much crap on top of those dinosaurs because humans were good and living in harmony with the planet and wouldn't mistreat these animals. It was awesome and even though they fought in every episode, no one ever won!! So what's the name of the show? I really need to know, because this is important. Extra points for posting pictures.

No Man's Land is just a lighthearted and contrived satire. Nothing amazing, but nice. Did you think I was comparing it to Hotel Rwanda? Their only similarity is having UN soldiers in it who are unable to do anything. And that's it. They couldn't be further apart really. Oh yeah, Finding Neverland. I didn't quite know what to think of that. It kept me mildly entertained while it lasted, but I can't say it really left a lasting impression on me. Since I remember almost nothing about it, I'll just conclude that it was... mostly forgettable.

Just went through this thread again for film recommendations, and it made me realize two things: a) There's a lot of movies I haven't seen. Nick watches a lot of movies. Just saw Hotel Rwanda finally. This film and No Man's Land make me very sad, and pretty much make me wish UN soldiers had freeze rays and could speak telepathically. Ahem, okay, Hotel Rwanda is pretty damn gripping and excellent. See it. Though I assume it's been seen by everyone by now. On a different note, is anyone else excited about having two new Terry Gilliam movies to look forward to this year? Something tells me the final cut will soon be accidentally eaten by a frog, or washed away by a casual tsunami. But if nothing of that sort happens, then we're in for a treat. This is a nice website.

Well, this is weird. For a couple of days you could leave your details here and Nintendo would send you one of those mannequin hand, which you could use to take random pictures of a mannequin hand touching something. (They've since gone out of stock.) The best submissions win money, and a Nintendo DS. I don't think there's any real submissions on the site yet, just examples, but they did actually send out hands to many people. Looks like some ad agency went a little nuts during a brainstorm. It's trying a bit hard, but it's also kind of fun. At least it's clever of them to run such a non-gamey promotion for a gaming machine.
