Interactive storytelling problems and the "credibility budget"
Marek replied to Marek's topic in Video Gaming
I think Adams means credibility within the role you are given. So if you play the game as the Grand Chicken Materializer then materializing chickens will obviously have a very low credibility cost. -
Yeah their album is pretty much awesome. Get it.

The RAM Raider is a lovely cynical blog that everyone should read. Their last post was a little less cynical than usual. I thought it was interesting. I'm going to be a dick and copy it in its entirety: It's kind of true isn't it? Then again, I guess nobody expected Table Tennis to be actually good.

Yeah she's really cool.
-
They weren't serious.

It says "invented a genre" not "invented a new form of gameplay". For something to become a genre it needs lots of people to play it and lots of games to copy or expand on its template. E.g. Xybots invented the use of 2D graphics to simulate 3D in a shooting game in 1987, but Wolfenstein 3D and Doom can be credited with inventing the 3D shooter genre. (Yeah yeah I know. It's a slightly silly point to be debating.)

Planes on a Plane. Small ones probably.
-
Tomb Raider it was a succesful game first, and a sales success second (boobies!). Fade to Black was neither.
-
They probably looked at their logs.

Not only funny, but also ended as a really inspirational speech.

You clearly have never been on usenet. (Does BSG even qualify as nerdy?)
-
Erkki, maybe something is wrong with your connection or account. I bought the game around the time you first posted that and my download started immediately at 400~500kb/s.

Just finished it and I'm really happy with this game. I love the commentary feature. Anyone complaining about the length of the game (i.e. a fair amount of Shackers) needs to stop. The length is perfect. Also this just in: Alyx has several things she does in the dark! In my case, but I just read she also which is also awesome.
-
Was she tickling or groping? WE MAY NEVER KNOW.
-
One hour in. Most awesome moment so far? What Alyx does when you're standing in complete darkness.

Mushroom scent.

He has an earpiece. Fun though!

After reading the interview with Al Gore in the latest issue of Wired I really want to see that movie.

WOW CLEVER. When people say "save the planet" they obviously mean "save the environment so that we can continue to live in it and be healthy and not have to worry about insane natural disasters or animals dying or everything around us being super shit and polluted because that would be crap" but that doesn't have a good ring to it does it. Okay, yes, they literally mean the planet -- the object orbiting the sun as a whole -- needs saving. :shifty:

I'm 2:21 in and I've ALREADY had ENOUGH of this guy. It's GREAT if you're ENTHUSIASTIC about your game but there's NO NEED to emphasize EVERY single THING with your VOICE and your ARMS. :shifty: Edit: okay, he's kinda funny. Give the man a raise.

If you listen to the writer's meeting podcasts you get the sense that intuitively Moore knows where the show is going to end up but nothing at all is actually planned out. Extremely different scenarios are considered all the time. At GDC he was asked the exact same question that Moos asked. He answered that he has a certain expectation of how many seasons BSG could last, but that it all depends on how interesting they can keep the show. He claimed that he knows from his experience when a series runs dry and said he would stop the show before that happens and move on to a new project. He sounded pretty sure of himself. I hope he has the ability to actually do that. The SCI FI channel seems to give him broad creative freedom but I'm not sure if that includes deciding when to stop the show in the future.

You should have sent that anonymously to UK:R. It's what the cool kids do.
