And comatose.

The idea is that besides being a portal, Manifesto Games promotes indie games as a whole and occasionally acts as investor. They claim not to just put games on a website but to try and solve all the marketing and PR issues of low-budget indie games, which sometimes struggle to get exposure on their own. Or at least, that's what I gather from what Costik has posted in the past.

They need to ditch some of those rows of stars, get a real logo, and maybe add a background color to the area surrounding the page, and they'll have themselves a good website. The overall layout and the copy is really well done. I still can't believe the logo. There were a couple of OK ones in the contest, but this one is bad. Not even in a "ha ha that's bad" way but just really really bad. Costik's a good writer but apparently has a terrible visual sense. If I recall correctly, the guy who made that logo got an xbox 360 or equivalent.

What did that creature drop in the house? Was it a mine?

I believe a retailer orders a certain number of copies and the ones that don't get sold get sent back to the publisher for a sort of refund. At least that's how a Dutch game publisher explained it to me, and sadly I can't remember the exact details. (Does anyone know?) But yeah the retail system is pretty fucked. There's limited shelf space, so a game has to prove itself in the first few weeks or it gets kicked out.

Jason: I meant that it would be interesting for DF to try some smaller games. It'd be an nice venue for them to experiment with different gameplay styles. Yes, they aren't known for their gameplay per se, but that's exactly the point. Oh and I doubt very much DF is working on a sequel. Though if they were, I wouldn't really mind.

for Minish Cap. (I was in fact prepared to pwn you hard after reading the thread title. Fortunately I realized that would not be necessery.)

Doug Church is at EALA (EA Los Angeles) creating new IP with Steven Spielberg. The people who made The Godfather are at EARS (EA Redwood Shores).

I like that he's expressing interest in digital distribution. It would be awesome if DF made a few different XBLA or Virtual Console games, just to see if something sticks.

He's implying that you're a viral marketer.

So what else do you know about Puzzle Pirates?

It was never targeted specifically to a female audience, and The Sims has been bought and played about equally by men and women. (I don't know if the figures I have seen on that included any of the themed expansion packs.) But it's right that The Sims appeals to men and women much more equally than most games, as does Nintendogs and other recent mainstream successes.

Interactive Fiction you plebes!! (Note: have not played IF in many years.)

I'm sad to hear all this. The game seemed very interesting conceptually.

I guess this is about as funny as "buy a car for Ron Gilbert". Naming an eagle after Colbert? Yes. Some random bridge in Hungary? Who cares.

It's sad that such 'evergreen' sellers are pretty rare. (Not counting bargain bin sales, obviously.)

Broken Flowers is great. Crash is like trying to watch a movie while a fat man stands in front of the screen constantly blocking your view while waving his arms and yelling THIS IS ABOUT RACISM THIS IS ABOUT RACISM.

You might want to play the game then.

This time around each console is doing something totally different, having unique features outside of CPU horsepower or game exclusives. (XBLA, Wiimote, Virtual Console, etc.) I think we're in for a great ride. The 360 has already showed that the increased power is not just used to make games superficially prettier but to make them better as well. Dead Rising, with all those hundreds of zombies on the screen, would not have been possible. It is a perfect example of graphics and gameplay combining to form something new. Yes, we're at a point graphics-wise where you can't just throw more polygons at it and expect people to be knocked off their chairs. But that doesn't mean the newer hardware unwelcome. Relatively more power can now be spent on better physics, facial animation, NPC crowds, unique shaders, etc. So basically we're getting the usual overall bump graphics quality (a bit less of a bump this time due to good ol' diminishing returns) plus more power to allocate to other stuff plus unique console features. In other words, your cynicism is SO last gen.

That sign looks exactly like it could have been designed by Jake. Except when Jake designs something like that it's automatically tongue-in-cheek.Sorry for going off topic. I'm going back to actually read the thread now.

Yeah I met them there and since then became good friends with Barbara.

Yeah. There's a bunch of invaders around my house in Amsterdam. Some of them are hidden in fun places. I smile whenever I discover one.
