Actually, Europe has always been PlayStation's stronghold territory. The reason they're launching there last is so they can put up a fight in Japan and the US. The Europeans will buy it later anyway. At least, that's what it says on the Sony corporate flipchart.

The floor in the men's toilet is covered entirely in about a centimeter of something that looks like water but smells like glue. The entrance is taped off. That means we get to use the women's toilet today!

It depends on what kind of hearing it is. Some are public some are not.

This episode basically said: there is no status quo, and everything on New Caprica will have a domino effect for the rest of the season. It makes up for the way the last episode was so neatly wrapped up. Apart from of course the excellent plot and character development, I loved how the galactica still has visible damage and now has a fuckload of crew and refugees.

Here's a video of the most recent court hearing. Thompson acts like a spoiled kid. Amazing. http://www.destructoid.com/jack-thompson

Here's Kotaku's entire post on a recent comment by Will Wright so you don't have to visit their crappy site: So, basically, a famed designer and an all-star team are working on a game that took balls to even attempt, and which promises to introduce countless innovations and experiments that will push gaming forward. Kotaku's response? "plz, stop being so pretentious. Also, I looked at some boobs." BURNNNNNNN. I don't know who the person is who wrote that shit but he clearly needs to look in the mirror and admit to not liking video games. The fact that he based the entire post on just one bullet point sentence shows a lot, too. What makes it even more depressing is that he might have gotten paid for writing that post. Sigh.

We had some plans. But everyone is pretty busy with their real jobs right now, so no promises.

Yes, but no. IdleNews has pretty much degraded to an amateur personal blog, and I'm definitely not complaining about the likes of UK Resistance, RagnarTornquist.com, RAM Raider, etc. etc. The site isn't published by a real company and doesn't have writers on the payroll. And while it's cool (and somewhat to be expected) that you still associate our past amateur journalistic ambitions with the current Idle Thumbs, the site's pretty much dead and it will stay that way if/until we try to revive it. The two cannot be compared.

Hey forum, long time no see! You're looking absolutely FABULOUS today. Did you lose weight? Is that a new color accent in your hair? Just WOW! So what have you been doing during the forum downtime? I've been drinking heavily. I've also tried learning a little bit of Japanese for no reasons other than that I found a fun podcast about it and that it seemed appropriate for a game geek. Arigato? Currently playing: World of Warcraft Currently watching: The West Wing season 1 Arrested Development season 3 Battlestar Galactica season 2 Sportsnight season 1

Yeah that reminds me, a year ago I bought a "high quality" Sony headphone (the DJ kind, with lots of isolation and earphones you can flip around) and after 3 months of using it, one of the sides stopped working. This is not a problem for me since I'm deaf on one ear anyway, but still wtf. -

I'm boycotting Sony. While I already didn't plan on buying a PS3 during the first years of its cycle, I'm now not buying the PS3 at all unless second-hand, and I'm no longer buying any other electronics equipment from them (they've been my default brand for digital cameras, phones, voice recorders etc. for a long time). Obviously I'm not just reacting to Lik-Sang, as that would be retarded, but it is definitely the final drop. Lik-Sang + rootkit + overheating batteries + bullying Aibo hackers + bullying game devs into making games shittier (oh man, the horror stories......) + bullshit proprietary formats + attempted blocking any sort of homebrew use of the PSP + low durability of their products = whatever, fuck you, I'm out. I'll have a Nokia phone, Nikon camera and a Microsoft Xbox now plz. -

"Go to hell" refers to Kotaku saying "go to hell" to Will Wright. I just copied their headline. But, anyway, first you're saying they should have no responsibility because they are blogs, but, all the same, they still should have responsibility? I'm confused. Most blogs don't offer journalism (even though some, like Joystiq, claim they do, and even get really snooty about it). Blogs are generally about opinion/commentary, news analysis, personal anecdotes, referral links and other snippets. But that doesn't mean you can post blatant trash on a professional ad-supported blog and hide behind the fact that you're editorializing through a relatively new internet format (while still frequently claiming to be in the business of reporting news when it suits you). I'm pretty sick of professional blogs funded by professional blog publishers or even traditional news gathering organizations spewing forth crap while still claiming immunity. Um, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, a post about Will Wright.

Jaf!!!!!! Yeah, I'm still not gay.

I included what I said about Spore because clearly it's the type of game that, if you happen to not like it, you probably need a slightly more substantial argument than "I yawned" (there are quite a few arguments against the Spore hype that Eckhardt could have picked from that are completely valid and acceptable). Or if he failed to think of any, he could just admit it's a matter of personal taste and leave it at that. It's about the way this writer wrote his piece, not that he has an alternative view. But mainly it's odd how, without a full transcript, he could so easily blast the word "Scenius". He's seen previous Will Wright talks, so he knows the tone of them, and that there's no telling in what context he used that word. To illustrate, in his GDC 2006 talk Wright openly refered to the "Will Wright Generative Drinking Game" and then took words on alternative terms for generative. Here's just a one-line description on someone blog and someone else's kneejerk troll on another blog. The reason all of this matters is that Kotaku isn't just a bunch of people throwing bullshit on their personal site. It's a professionally run (as in: people get paid) publication by Gawker Media. The same goes for Joystiq: all the contributors are paid, and the whole shebang is owned and published by Weblogs, Inc. which is owned by AOL. How is that different from someone at C|Net, Ziff-Davis or IGN posting something on their blog? It isn't, but both are treated differently all the time. I really don't see why the independent blogs should get a free pass on everything just because "hey, they're a blog!". </rant>

You missed the point. It's not about liking or disliking Spore and/or Will Wright.

Last episode was sex. There were many things I didn't like about how it wrapped up in the end, but I won't complain about it, because the episode was sex. Oh man.

Walter, why the hell do you keep deleting posts? I was going to visit that blog you linked to again, and looked through the thread like 5 times until I realized the post was gone.

Phoenix Wright 2 also coming out soon. I feel reunited with adventure games. DS, I love you.

http://www.armadillorun.com/ (Doug tipped it to me yesterday, it's fun! Though I'm also told it's very similar to that Bridge Builder indie game from a year or two ago.)

I haven't seen them recently but back when C&C1 and Red Alert came out I really enjoyed the live action cutscenes. They were cheesy enough to be fun but not so cheesy to be horrible. Dr. Moebius being a huge doofus, Kane shooting his general through the head and looking all evil into the camera, that GDI general getting all angry in the last level and saying "DESTROY THE BASSSTAARD", Nadia's thick Russian accent, an actor with fake moustache playing Joseph Stalin.......... Awesome. It got lame when they started involving actors like James Earl Jones and actually trying to deliver quality (but, of course, falling short of actual quality, i.e. the bad kind of cheesy).
