  1. Connecting console to TV

Hmm, from the manual: So that one's out...
  2. Connecting console to TV

OK a new HD TV is on its way. This old Finlux TV is moving to my parents' guestroom, so that I can play Wii there when I'm visiting. Woo. So, question round #2. My HD TV has the following connections: Component Composite HDMI VGA Scart RGB Scart A/V Svideo I plan to use composite component for my Wii eventually as that seems to get the best results (see: GameSpot). Then there's two more devices I need to connect: my G4 powerbook (has svideo and DVI) and an Xbox 360. Can anyone recommend the highest quality connections to use for those two? For the 360, will I get high quality picture if I get a cable to Scart RGB (keeping DVI/VGA free for other stuff)? Or should I use something else for hidef graphics? For the Powerbook, should I get a DVI to HDMI cable? Or a DVI to VGA cable? There are way too many "standards".
  3. Elections in the Lowlands!

Yeah fucking Wilders. How did that happen? Also (for entirely different reasons) ... the Party for Animals. TWO FUCKING SEATS. Let's give huge "Whhaaaaaaaaaaa?!" to that one.
  4. Wii titles?

Chris is churning out PS3 and Wii articles at an incredible rate.
  5. Elections in the Lowlands!

Huh what? Iron fist? Where did you get that from? After seeing the results I don't know whether I should be happy or sad. A right-wing coalition has been prevented, but I don't see many viable combinations here. CDA - PvdA - SP would be fine in my book, but it would never happen since CDA and SP won't be able to cooperate. So if SP is going to be an opposition party again, what will we get? CDA - PvdA - VVD (Paars 3)? ;( Or CDA - PvdA - CU? (Fuck) I don't know. The results are a giant clusterfuck. Whatever spews forth will probably make me slightly happier than a completely right-wing cabinet but I can't say I trust there to be a stable, straighforward government (anywhere in the political spectrum) any time soon. (Oh, by the way Erwin, don't mind the stuff about GL. It's not bashing as you clearly spent thought on the issues, and I'm not one to get offended by healthy disagreements. Good stuff )

Yeah I know the tech is all there. But the cheaper and more efficient we can make that tech, the faster it will be adopted, and there's a lot that can be done in that area. (And of course there might be entirely new techs we haven't yet discovered.) Nuclear power is not an option in my book unless literally the world depended on it. If we're going to replace shitty energy sources, let's replace them properly and not with something that still relies on a limited fuel source (uranium ore - it's plentiful but so was oil once) and leaves waste we can't deal with. Another thing I don't like about nuclear reactors is that they require a lot of security. So in summary, nuclear: But yeah, wind power:

I totally get what you're saying about the environmental issues but, sadly, none of the parties seem to make it a huge point. GroenLinks makes it a slightly bigger point than the others, so I'm settling for them on that issue. After seeing An Inconvenient Truth (after reading various magazine articles that confirmed its scientific accuracy) climate change has really become my number one issue. My believe/hope is that if an individual country takes the lead and develops new technologies (for renewable energy and so forth) it can export those technologies and have a global impact that way. If every country does nothing because every other country does nothing, nothing will ever happen. As far as Schiphol goes, I'd say keep it at about this size. It's totally crammed in between cities already, and I have some doubts about the environmental effects of further expansion. I guess I wouldn't be fundamentally opposed to a landing strip in the north sea connected by underground rail, if the investment could pay itself off (but apparently it wouldn't, so that's off the table). I really don't see where else you could put more landing strips or terminals other than in places where it's really not welcomed. The mortgage interest issue kind of escaped my attention. Well, shit. I'm likely to buy a house soon so maybe I should have read more about it.

Then please vote D'66 :) It combines liberal and social ideas in a pretty agreeable way. Don't vote VVD or CDA please even if you agree more with their stance on the economy. "Strategic votes" for the lose.</political brownnosing> I'm not 100% convinced by GroenLinks either. Just to pick something random: they want animal rights in the consitution, which I think is horseshit. But most of their viewpoints match mine, so I'm happy to be voting for them. I think GroenLinks is slightly more pragmatic than SP though, particularly in how they look at the economy, or the EU, etc. But I also agree SP has really turned around from their purely opposition party mentality and is focusing more on actual solutions. Anyway. When will the results be in? Maybe I will watch a live stream tonight.
  9. Elections in the Lowlands!

Woo, politics! I'm voting GroenLinks (again), based purely on their program. I've seen very little of the debates due to not having a TV but somehow it makes me feel my decision is more informed. When I tell people what I'm voting for, they usually respond with a comment about the party leader's personality or "credibility" (geloofwaardigheid, that silly word), but that's not what this is about. Other people tell me to vote PvdA to avoid a right-wing cabinet, but that's not what this is about either. I vote whichever party most closely matches my beliefs and my priorities and that's it. I hope SP kicks ass today. Those guys have got one heck of a campaign. And I secretly would love to see Marijnissen in an executive position. D'66 is totally the best choice if you're voting on the right. Elmuerte, I have to ask, which parts of their program convinced you? D'66 voters often have a very specific reason.
  10. Wii titles?

Yeah they meant the UK one.
  11. Battlestar Galactica Season 3

This episode was alright. Spec-script-esque indeed, but to a tolerable level. The performances were good, and coloring in some of the details that happened before the invasion was cool. Not sure if anyone noticed this, or if it's significant at all, but the soundtrack of this episode had a very brief segment of the reversed Six theme in it (on the basestar, I think during the threesome scene). It's the theme they used in Downloaded for Head Baltar. It might be some musical foreshadowing.
  12. Wii titles?

Yeah, tiger-print is becoming fashionable again. Good lord, save us all.
  13. Wii titles?

    SOLD.
  14. Man to Man

    It's shit. Don't bother.
  15. Connecting console to TV

Cool, thanks. Quality is not a huge concern since this will be a temporary arrangement until I buy a better TV.
  16. Connecting console to TV

Yeah it's a Finlux, well spotted! My folks bought it years ago at discount rate. It had really good image quality at the time, but it always failed to recognize new channels. I'm still not even sure how this works. My dad once paid a professional to do it after some of the channels got moved to different frequencies and it took that guy hours. SCART is indeed hideous.
  17. Connecting console to TV

Ysbreker: the reason I'm not rushing out to buy an HD TV is that I need a little more time to research and set aside the money. I'm confused now: 3:56 Lawrence you can connect both those consoles to your TV 3:56 Gwarek thank you sir 3:56 Lawrence they both come with RCA (Composite) cables, which you can plug into the adapter you have 3:56» make sure the adapter is set to output and your laughing
  18. Zune...

I, for one, am getting really sick of sharing cocaine through wires all the time. This thing is a blessing!

Brought to you by J Allard: listen to the Chemical Brothers on your Zune while wakeboarding or downhill mountainbiking!
  20. ELMUERTE'S Thread of LIESSSS

Luke Smith was making a point about how journalists need to find news and not just get it from press releases. He isn't saying blogs are doing that, he's saying blogs compensate for the regurgitation thing by imbueing their news with personality.
  21. ELMUERTE'S Thread of LIESSSS

You guys don't know Archie Bunker? Wow. Game journalism is a nice topic to discuss but let's not drag Idle Thumbs into it. The site is clearly in limbo and doesn't really stand for anything at the moment.
  22. Wii titles?

It's bad? Or just really similar to the DS version?
  23. Wii titles?

Well I won't be getting my Wii until dec 7 :shifty: but I think I'll be getting "Zelda". It's an action/adventure and fishing simulator, I don't know man, it looks pretty cool. Rayman Raving Rabbids is another strong candidate. Although, for some reason, I have been getting some doubts recently and I'm probably going to wait for a few reviews. I also want to buy a Wii FPS. The level design and basic FPS mechanics of Red Steel seem really generic, although it does have some potentially amazing controls and some really fun stuff in it (the phone feature just kills me). We'll see what the reviews say. I might get Call of Duty 3, Splinter Cell: Double Agent or Far Cry Vengeance instead if they're better. I'm just really curious how FPS controls feel on this system. Other than that I might pick up Wii Play if I need a second controller. I might actually just impulse buy some Wii games. There's some games I would normally not want that badly but that I might become curious about anyway just for the controls (e.g. ExciteTruck or Blazing Angels) If I lived in the US I would also pick up Trauma Center: Second Opinion, and I'd be vaguely interested in Metal Slug. Both games won't be released in the EU until later.
  24. Congratulations SPAFF

Believe me, you are doing fine. See: my pictures at E3 200... er ... 2? I don't remember. Keeping your eyes open is a bitch.
