From what I have heard of 300 for the past month or so I have no intention of ever seeing it. Sounds totally lame. Going to see Hot Fuzz tonight though. Also: I thought for some reason that The Wedding Crashers was a chick flick. I guess things didn't click in my mind even though I knew it had Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in it. Yeah wtf. Enjoyable film (at least for a film that doesn't actually have to be good).

I never realized this until I think someone from LucasArts commented that our mental picture of certain characters like Ben from Full Throttle has been distorted through time. Since a screen capture of Ben basically widescreens him he seems less tall with a wider face than he was intended to have.

Question: is Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (I'm reminded of it by miffy's post) still worth picking up and is it BC on 360?
-
You are right about the drought but I think you're off the mark regarding third party support. Maybe you meant it in absolute terms not relative, but from what I can tell third party support is very strong. Not only is there a lot of it, unusual suspects like EA are doing a pretty good job porting to the system. Tiger Woods, SSX Blur, Godfather and Madden have been reviewed very well, especially considering these games are actually supposed to be early cycle shovelware. They use the wiimote in good ways (in fact, Wii is the only system that I can imagine myself ever buying Tiger Woods or Madden for).

From what I've heard, Crackdown might also fall into the "fun" game category (fun is a terrible label but I know what you guys mean). Especially once you're able to jump on top of (or over) buildings and do extreme stuff like that.

Miffy, damn you for being at the top of my leaderboard all the time ever. DAMN YOU. I feel like a king when I complete a song with 5 stars on medium but then I check the leaderboards and feel completely inferior. I interviewed a Microsoft exec at GDC and he hinted they're going to diversify the 360 lineup more in the not too distant future. The goal was intentionally to focus on hardcore early in the life cycle, or at least that's what they claim. It makes sense as those are your early adoptors. I'm hoping this diversification will actually happen because, as happy as I am with 360 right now and as good as the software library is, it is really homogeneous in terms of styles, genres and attitudes.

The LOTR strategy game was also designed specifically for the system. I never bought it because the game itself doesn't interest me much, but playing the demo convinced me that RTS controls on a console can work. It's on Xbox Marketplace somewhere. The controls are a bit slower than on the PC, so I wouldn't want to play a strategy game on the console competitively, but for a single player campaign it's excellent.

Actually if you have a silver account (the free one) you can buy whatever games you want, download demos, download trailers, show off your gamerscore, etc. What you need an annual subscription for is if you want to play games with others over the intertubes. I'm in the same situation as miffy. I bought a Wii, not playing it much now, but that's pretty much what I expected. I think you made a good trade, at least for now. The Wii software library will start kicking ass in a while though, most likely after the summer. I only played Vegas at a friend's house, but I liked what I played. It's not a must-have 360 title for me, but it's good. The cover system is in fact superior to that of Gears of War. Hiding behind objects in Vegas is natural and fluid from the get-go, whereas in Gears it'll stay clunky until you get really good at it. I find Gears to be enormously overrated, by the way. My gamertag is Gwarek, feel free to add me.

I find it ironic that, while complaining about shit on the internet, you have actually heaped more shit onto that shitpile.

On the other hand how will you do all those things without writing more? A personal blog is a good pressure-free way to get better at it.

I'm going to buy this when it comes out for Xbox. All I'm expecting is a well-made C&C game in the traditional style of the series. Based on what I've seen so far I doubt the game will own me completely, but it should be decently fun. Is the music still by Frank Klepacki or whatever his name was?

Saw this at GDC during a Microsoft presentation. Another way to describe it is that it's like FantaVision (that PS2 launch title) mixed with meh DDR. I still have to try the demo but I'm not really compelled to do so, especially as I have Guitar Hero 2 sitting in the disc drive.

I've unlocked nearly all the songs on "medium". It was fun blasting through it. But now I've hit the point where I have to really concentrate to progress further. I still haven't done a single succesful pull-off or hammer-on outside of the tutorial.

This game rules. My hand hurts. MORE PAIN

For the record, I'm pretty fucking excited.

It's coming out in EU in 2 weeks I think. Can't wait. Never owned Guitar Hero for the PS2 (played it a lot though).

Whoa that mygamercard service is pretty sweet. Infinitely easier to use than whatever the site was that I tried before. Feel free to add me to your list (though as you can see, I'm not a gold member right now).

Yawn. High-res but ugly world. Liberty City again. Only the protagonist seems interesting. So far. But I'm sure Rockstar will manage to turn it into a or even a with their tightly controlled monthly PR blasts each focusing on one set of new features, as they did with San Andreas.

Mario and Sonic team up for the first time in Video Game History?
Marek replied to BigJKO's topic in Video Gaming
I'm also reminded of good old Summer Games and Winter Games, which I've been telling everyone should be reinvented on the Wii. This game might actually be that, but with added Sonic and Mario. -

???????????? The Borg would immediately transport themselves to the Death Star and assimilate it. Their shields are also much stronger. -

It will also have Yoshi, Luigi, Knuckles and Tails.I'm super excited about this announcement, more than I should be. It's also very amusing to watch a "Borg cube vs. Death Star"-esque nerdplosion ensue over Mario and Sonic. (Not necesserily here but in the hyperwebs at large). -
Thrik: I somehow missed the future tense... In that case the PS3 may be worth buying for whatever the likes of Fumito Ueda and Tsutomo Kuono come up with. I'd feel super sad if I bought a PS3 now though. The cool stuff won't emerge until much later. Also PS3 looks to be getting the least games in general, so you'd really want to have some guarantees that it will have the exclusives you're interested in.

Some people on other boards seem to think it's an april fool's joke but I can tell you that it's not. That's the new NiGHTS.

Wait. Your take on the 360 and PS3 is completely opposite of reality. PS3 has the exclusives? There's only two high-profile exclusives I can think of: LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid. And there's only a small chance that MGS remains exclusive. Maybe you're counting games like Motorstorm and Warhawk but I'd be surprised if you considered those system sellers. 360 has several high-profile exclusives, plus all the stuff PS3 gets (Devil May Cry, GTA, Resident Evil 5, etc.). It's the main platform for most publishers now (the one that the other stuff is ported from). Can't argue with BluRay, if that's important to you.
