It's retarded because a lot of that equipment isn't going to make a big difference to the sound or image quality (or at least not a difference that's worth millions). But more importantly it looks completely ridiculous. The guy who owns that shit shows he has no taste at all. If you have that kind of money to spare at least buy something cool and stylish, not this circular installation of penises.

That's the most retarded shit I've seen in a while.

In addition to that BSG does pretty ballsy stuff sometimes that goes against what you'd expect through TV conventions and so on. It can be very unpredictable, keeping you on the edge of your seat. It also has a lot of shades of grey in terms of morality. I've had fairly long discussions with people about whether one character on the show is a war criminal or not and amazingly we both made convincing cases for each side based on what the series had shown. But yeah close this thread and go watch it. Most people find the miniseries (with which it all began) to be a bit hard to get through but once you start watching the first actual season the quality and intensity goes up very fast.

Saw Todd Sweeney yesterday. Loved the overall story, but on a scene-by-scene basis... well... I had several naps during the film. I probably would have liked it more in the form of a play (which I assume it originally was?) and not in movie form. Extremely tiresome. Finally been getting into The Wire and everything you guys said about it is true. I'm halfway through season one and I'm eating it up like cherry garcia. The pilot was really tough to get into, though. It's a bit like this. But once you know who everyone is and what their roles are, it's totally great. I love how many characters there are. No Country For Old Men = Eagle versus Shark ... I stopped it at about half an hour in. I just couldn't watch it anymore. It was TRYING SO HARD TO BE QUIRKY. Argh. I guess this one didn't click for me. Sunshine. Very predictable pulpy scifi... not an amazing film, but it's entertaining enough. Nice visual effects... sometimes it feels like the sun is burning holes into your eyes because it's so bright. On the other hand the director did some really retarded things. Dexter. Holy crap amazing. Finished season 1, on to season 2. I saw an episode of The Peter Serafinowicz Show which was mentioned earlier in this thread and there's some really funny bits in it. Couldn't find the other episodes on the webnet though. While I'm at it, let me repeat my earlier recommendation of The Man From Earth. Check it out if you're looking for something odd and campy. Whoa hey what's this.

I highly recommend Learn Japanese with Beb & Alex: http://japanese.libsyn.com/

Whoa, that was very different. The majority of the Amazon reviews acknowledged the irony and were tongue-in-cheek. It was clever. I agree these hackers might not be, though.

Hillary has shown conservatism on a few issues as of late but let's not kid ourselves here, McCain is way more conservative than Clinton, and Clinton is far removed from the views of the republicans. Are there many other examples other than the video game thing? She's clearly trying to score points with certain demographics, but I don't think it represents a major shift in her political alignment. Or did I miss some stuff?
-
I respect McCain's history of bipartisanship and his (relative) voice of reason, even though I frequently disagree with him. I think he's a good guy. It'd be great for the level of debate if he became the GOP candidate, and I wouldn't mind him as US president. But these times call for a really standout and inspiring president, not just a competent one. McCain would be a good thing for America but he might not be good enough. Hillary would be fine, although she's a bit less progressive than the other Democratic candidates. But it nags me that she's the wife of a former president, which seems not entirely in the spirit of the 2-term limit. It also seems a bit wrong that a country is basically run by two families from 1989 to possibly 2013 or 2017. That would make for nearly 3 decades of the Bushes/Clintons. Mind you, I am a huge Bill Clinton fanboy, but I think the 'new Bill clinton' is Barack Obama, not Hillary. That said, I would sleep extremely well if there's an Obama/Hillary ticket. Holy crap. That would rule a billion times.

Every time there's Dutch elections, several of those interactive 'electoral compasses' are designed by different universities or institutions. They're a popular tool and usually a big topic of discussion. They've now made two of these apps for the US election given the unusually high level of interest over here. (The other one is here.) Anyway... who would I vote for... If Kuchinich were a viable candidate, I would most likely have voted for him. It's sad that he's at best seen as "a funny short guy who keeps lots of shit in his pockets and has a hot wife" or at worst "a communist pinko". I guess over in Europe he'd be seen as a moderate and not a far-left candidate at all. After Kuchinich, I liked Edwards best on the issues -- slightly more than Obama. But Obama must clearly become president (I already felt that way before Edwards dropped out). He manages to motivate and inspire people in ways that no other candidate can. I love America but it's royally fucked up, possibly near-bankrupt, so unless there's a really inspiring and pragmatic figure in the White House things might be bleak. I think Obama is the only one who has any shot at getting done what needs to be done. On the Republican side I could tolerate a McCain presidency, but I wouldn't be super optimistic. Alright enough babbling, I'll take the test now... Yep, Barack.

Impressive! Though I still pay most attention the (fairly hot) actress on the left. Halfway through I was like... hang on, I'm supposed to watch the 3D face. Then I saw a 3D woman who has Gollum living inside her. -
Hello? Spoiler tags? Some of us don't want to have all the surprises ruined.

Oh shit, you are one of those New World Order people?! Sigh. Racism is somehow inherent to capitalism? Income tax is the first step onto a slippery slope to Stalinism (what the fuck!?)? But whatever, you mentioned NWO, so no one should even bother. It sounds like you've been reading digg.com too much, or hanging out with the wrong people. Maybe you've gotten mixed up in too many conspiracy theories and big ideas. Maybe it would be best if you didn't vote. (For the record, I believe 9/11 could have been a false flag operation, and probably was. I'm just letting you know so you don't have to go "you just don't see it, man" on me or anything.)

Rez is great. I first played it around the time it came out but had partly forgotten what it was really like. While it's not at all necessery to like house or techno music to enjoy Rez I think it does add a little to the experience when you do. During Rez I occasionally get a bit of that good feeling in my stomach that I also feel during the highs and lows of a really good DJ set. But it's impossible to explain what that really is.

FYI, Ben has entered the thread.

Aww they grow so fast. Someday Baby T will be a real .

3 more hours until Rez HD for me. The wait is horrible.

Dunno if this was known yet but Euro release date is March 8. CAN'T WAIT.

Tom Cruise always strikes me as if he's confused acting with real life. He never seems genuine.

When I started playing Mass Effect in December, the first planet I went to was Feros, and this totally put me off. Drab world, lots of boring combat. But this month I was talked into playing it again by a colleague and I must say the other planets are much nicer. I really wish Mass Effect had less combat though, and instead had more dialog based stuff or maybe even ship-to-ship combat. Maybe I'm not far enough into the game yet, but it seems so weird that you have this huge ship and you're not really using it. I'd love to have some tactical/strategic ship combat, and maybe assign squad members to different ship ops, especially the ones you don't normally take along for away missions.

You can get 720p games on Xbox 360 (all games), and 720p movies through XBLM (erm not sure if that's available in The Netherlands though) or if you download them from some other places, like the iTunes Store. You can get 1080p games on Playstation 3 (though as we all know, higher resolution does not equal better graphics). You can get 1080p movies on BluRay, but nowhere downloadable as far as I know. Xbox 360 will not have 1080p games in its lifetime. We can be virtually certain of that. It may have 1080p content, but only if it gets a BluRay expansion drive. But at this point, who cares. 720p looks good, 1080p looks a bit better (for movies, anyway). The quality increase from DVD to 720p is much higher than from 720p to 1080p.

Yes that sounds like a good price. Sadly I don't remember where I did my research back then. One thing I could say regardless though: you might want to take an extra moment to consider a 32" model. It really depends on the size of your living room, but it might sit a lot better than a larger model. When you're in the store, a lot of TVs will seem smaller than they really are because there's always an ever bigger one next to them. I have a normal sized apartment and 32" is just about right for it. A colleague of mine has a similarly sized apartment with a 45" Samsung and people are just making jokes about it all the time because now he basically has a room with a giant penis in it. (Um... so to speak.)

If you have a choice between 1080i and 720p (as on the Xbox 360), go for 720p. (Unless, apparently, if you are ThunderPeel and 720p is giving you weird problems.) Setting it to 1080i doesn't really gain you anything, most likely this mode is just included because it has a big number in it. If I'm not mistaken, Samsung still has the best price/value ratio going on for HD screens if you don't want to spend too much, but not have something that is shitty either. I got one about a year ago and I'm pleased with it. If you're going to buy an Xbox 360, get one with a harddisk. Anyone who posts around here probably doesn't want to go for the Arcade/Core versions. You need the HD space for your XBLA games, demos, and possibly Xbox Originals games, plus who knows what is still on the way.
