Idle Thumbs Special UK Report: "Live at the Eurogamer Expo"
Marek replied to Marek's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Glad you liked it! You don't want to know how fucking long it took to record that intro or how many failed takes there's on the cutting room floor. -
Installed it. Accepted the new EULA. Black screen. It stayed black. Rebooted. Hooray, it worked! Made an avatar. Then got error messages each time it had to access game information from the server. VERDICT: 2 brainhams out of 6 "Fans of the console operation system genre might want to give this a try. Others: steer clear."

If you have only one ball... you could be a nazi. So check yourself.

I've heard that the demo is totally not packaged up properly and that there's folders with loads of .png files used in the game, as well as files with scripting code. That makes me a bit sad.

Idle Thumbs Special UK Report: "Live at the Eurogamer Expo"
Marek replied to Marek's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Thanks for the comments! Since this is our first podcast in nearly a decade 2,5 years, hopefully the quality will improve as we do more of these, and also hopefully we'll slip into some kind of regular format. The intention is definitely to keep doing these, though probably not at the unstoppable breakneck pace of our US brethren. I think we lack that kind of discipline. The microphone we bought for these podcasts is omni-directional and originally designed for recording live performances and such. We can easily take it anywhere and maintain some semi-decent audio quality. Would you guys prefer more of a studio setting, or do you think live-on-location podcasts is something we should do again? We have some ideas about this but I thought I'd ask you guys too. -
Idle Thumbs 7: Stop Doing Interviews

Have to agree with you n0wak. As soon as I heard the first line I burst out laughing. -
Welcome guys! Love your nickname, mr. Douche.

Thanks for your brilliant contribution to this thread?

Normally I only get full albums but lately I've been getting into downloading just singles or EPs here and there, as an easy way to add some variety to my music library. Yesterday I bought: The White Stripes - Icky Thump The Raconteurs - Steady As She Goes Phoenix - Long Distance Call I also got some New Young Pony Club and The Kills after I saw them in this thread. My library is still fairly sparse, having only been rebuilding it over the past 8 months following a hard drive disaster. I realized that I have way too much indie/alternative and too little of other genres. Anyone got recommendations for some cool downtempo, jazz, electronic, hiphop (not the bullshitty kind... e.g. I have some Eyedea and Outkast), etc.? I like stuff like Nouvelle Vague - anything of that nature that isn't a cover band? Anything Gnarls Barkley esque? Help me Idle Thumbs!

Today I learned that George Bush cancelled my dream game.

It was a fun event. We may have recorded a podcast there. Shhh. -
Oh man, win. A new YouTube sensation is born (hopefully not really) That third one creeps me out to the max though. I look like a rapist / insane clown. Take it off the interwebs!!!

Yeah, they apparently require a lot of paperwork, and then you don't get the actual money until ages later. We needed money quickly.

We pitched to everyone and their grandmothers. We were in talks with about a dozen parties. Out of this came three positive leads, all three of which fell through in the span of two weeks each for different reasons. It's been almost 1,5 month since we started this process and people are now starting to leave for other jobs. So this is pretty much it (for now). There's a chance we'll keep trying with a few key people and get the game to still happen some time in some form, but it won't be with the excellent team we already had in place.

You can't register it (you can only register trademarks and patents). You can however claim copyright. You get copyright by default once you make something but you have to be able to prove it, so that mailing yourself trick can come in handy there. You can't really point at your bulletpoint features for a game and claim another game stole your copyright though. That's not how it works. Our pitch was the best in the motherfucking world. We pitched one game that already had a working prototype and proven fun gameplay and proven business case and backed with a turnkey operation (computers, office, team, all ready to go) plus another concept which is the one Yufster told Dan about which was one of the best concepts I've heard in fucking ages. We got really close to getting a deal but it was a 'wrong place, wrong time' kinda thing. ARGHHHH.

Erm. I just get the intro text and nothing else. What am I supposed to do?

Hi, my name is Marek, and I got fucked by the game industry. (Everyone say, "Hi Marek"). My feelings can be expressed entirely in smiley form: :spiraldy: :spiraldy: Recovery will take a little while.

He's probably thinking about whether Yufster is working for the New World Order and how she fits into their sinister plot.

I learned that waiting for hours and hours for an important call/email isn't a lot of fun, especially when that call/email gets postponed to the next day. I also learned that sleeping can be hard when you are expecting potentially amazing news.

Yeah I guess it is...

Twitter feeds = win. Thumbroll on future Thumb main page would also rule. Maybe we should talk about that.

Thanks for the donk. Love, Marek

As this podcast is meant to be Skype-free I don't think any of us European thumbers will be joining in, unless maybe we happen to be in San Francisco for GDC or something. This is totally 100% Jake/Chris/Nick's thing. There may be a separate UK edition at some point though.
