nah, I'm horrified to actually play it haha. It was the same with Alien Isolation. I love that game... but it's too stressful to play.

ah well, your conclusion is a bit disheartening. But that thread looks pretty helpful so I appreciate that. Thanks!

my tablet is just a cheapo Acer w/ 2GB RAM so XCOM might be rough. Then again, setting it to lowest settings... maybe there's even a low spec patch? Considering how much I love XCOM, I'm surprised I haven't tried it yet. Although it might be tough to play with tough as left and right click do different things and I'm not sure you can scroll the screen w/o keyboard.

Oh oh, yes that reminds me: Talisman is one I've played on tablet and it works great.

good call on the Civ games. I have a couple of them... but have never played them. And yeah, controller stuff is good. My wife actually got me a new Xbox One S (bluetooth) controller for Christmas that works great. But for the purposes of this thread, I'm just trying to come up with Windows stuff that works good with just the touch screen. Hearthstone and Duelyst are both constant fixtures of my tablet for instance. I also recently picked up Donsol from Itch.io after seeing it plugged on RPS which seems well suited. It's a digital card game (like standard deck of cards) that is kind of a dungeon crawler thing. It's interesting.

I had heard of Subnautica, but yeah I kind of want a VR relaxation game. Subnautica sounds like it has crafting and survival, and neither relax me. Haha.

do you know if Abzu has a VR mode (or one planned)? When it first came out I feel like I kept saying "this would make a great VR game... I'll play it when they add VR mode."

I got my Rift back in September, and still haven't gotten the Touch controllers. I've only played a handful of full games in that time, but I don't regret my purchase in the least. So far the ones that have really stood out to me have been Lucky's Tale and House of The Dying Sun. Lucky's Tale is just impressive. I honestly thought that showing off VR with a 3D platformer was a bit dumb... until I played it. But it's actually awesome. The whole idea of your head being the camera just works really well. HOTDS is my favorite VR game I've played so far. Disclaimer: I haven't played Elite: Dangerous yet. But I loved how it was kind of an arcade take on space dog-fighting. I had so much fun with this one and recommend it for sure. I did recently get my hands on Thumper and have played through the first boss. It's definitely intense. Though as a fan of Lightning Bolt from "back in the day," I expected nothing less when I had heard about the game's development.

this thread is so good. Thanks for documenting. It's weird how games from 10 years ago seem both really old, and kind of recent. If that makes sense?

Idle Thumbs 298: For You, Not Them
noiseredux replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
long-time listener/first time poster, and I actually signed up just to chime in with this same thought. (And also to co-sign, that I don't think bats are birds either). Personally, I always enjoy the non-video game talk on the show. BUT the main reason that it's one of my favorite shows is for the great gaming conversation that is always really thought provoking. I can't tell you how many games I've experienced (and loved) because of this podcast - many of them games I would have most likely overlooked otherwise. Either way, keep up the great work guys!
