  1. Episode 306: Invisible, Inc.

Everything Klei do is class. I loved Don't Starve and to a lesser extent, Mark of the Ninja. Invisible Inc. seems to be yet another superb addition to their impressive back-catalogue.
  2. What's a good space 4X game?

Some people enjoy Star Drive 1 or 2 (although 2 received a lot of criticism) and there's also Star Ruler 2. Maybe search for some you tube lets plays of these.
  3. Destiny

I sank a lot of hours into Destiny upon release but haven't switched it on since January. If you enjoy the game then cool, I'm glad it's giving people fun. However, my view is that it's one of the worst, most cynical, thoughtless, repetitive games I have ever played. I kept expecting to stumble upon the "fun" or point of the game but it never happened. Actually, it's making me angry now just thinking about the game, so I'll stop. It's kinda sad how moribund and slipshod Bungie have become. Oh well.
  4. Episode 311: Total War: Attila

I'd agree. Although it is an improvement on R2, I think I'd still rather play R2 for the period and scope. Attila is pretty good but I don't think it's a great game at all.
  5. Episode 313: Listener Mail

Thanks for the episode (and the answers) guys - very enjoyable
  6. Taking Questions for next Q&A Show!

If you were stranded on a desert island (or similar) and could only have one strategy game with you to play - which would it be and why? What podcasts do you listen to and enjoy? What other genres of game do you play (rpgs, sports, etc) and what are some of your favourites?
  7. Episode 311: Total War: Attila

I went back and listened to the Rome 2 episode - it was hilariously damning. Angry Joe's review was good too. However, for a pure dismantling of the game on release, it has to be:
  8. Episode 311: Total War: Attila

Yeah, the problems with the battles all boils down to this.
  9. Episode 311: Total War: Attila

Good game (as is Rome 2 now) but there are just too many design choices that are hamstringing the series. Firstly, the province system is ridiculous. Why shouldn't I be able to build walls around a city just because it's not the symbolic capital of a theoretical province? Also, why should the populace of my settlement be deeply unhappy purely because another faction is mismanaging a settlement in the same province? It makes no sense. Plus the "giant" campaign map is really the smallest one ever used because it is simply a series of channels that armies are shuttled down rather than an expanse of land that you had to monitor with watch towers (a la Rome 1). Most crucially though are the inadequacies of the Warscape engine. It may look pretty but the physics are far inferior to the engine used in Rome 1 over 10 years ago. Then there was weight to the units and they actually fought each other. Now soldiers can only really fight 1 v 1 and so they will simply mesh together in a big ball rather than retaining cohesion. God, even terrain doesn't have the same effect as it did in the old game! Basically, if you can tolerate the graphics, Rome 1 remains the superior game to Rome 2 or Attila.
  10. I've never played EU4 (I seem to be too stupid to understand Paradox games) but seeing the game and all it's dlc on sale for £18 today means I am going to have to give this episode and no.228 another listen tonight.
  11. Episode 308: Order of Battle: Pacific

I've listened to a lot of the 3 Moves Ahead archives since discovering the show maybe a couple of years back. You have collectively caused me to spend an inordinate amount of money on a plethora of games (about £1m) which I think you should be decent enough to refund me for Zacny! However, I found this episode to be possibly the poorest I've heard yet. As someone who has never encountered the Panzer games, I came to the end of this podcast none the wiser about what Pacific is - how the mechanics work or what the pros and cons of the game are. Maybe this is unfair and I should give it a re-listen but I just found it to be two guys moaning for an hour about how they're done with this formula (whatever it may be). Am I being unfair here? (Edit: I've since bought Panzer Corp complete on sale and have played the tutorial missions - so I understand the gameplay now but still don't know why it produced such hostility in the show).
