My group had four people trying to buy them and not one of us got a batch. We were heartbroken. We might go up to Seattle and crash with one of our buddies anyway and just have a giant twitch watching party - depends on how PAX tickets shake out. The biggest uncertainty in my mind in those predictions is Na'vi. I wonder if they'll be invited...

Honestly, I've given it a few days since my initial, highly pessimistic, highly emotional reaction and have quite turned around on it. There were some missteps (as there often are) and sometimes the thing resorted to cliche (But no one knew that this Bruiser wanted to do something utterly forbidden - wear a dress etc) but it could have been far worse, and has given me the opportunity to clarify and educate among my own peers, none of whom came away with a blisteringly offensive image of what trans people are going through. I'm not about to run out into the street and sing its praises, but perhaps in the long term we'll look back and see it as a positive thing, on the whole.

I came to this thread expressly to see a video of the tomato robot, and y'all did not disappoint. -
Bloodborne (Dark Souls 2 successor (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)))
natellite replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
My favorite thing about bloodborne is how i can ram my head up against a boss for like 45 minutes, get frustrated, quit, then come back the next morning and kill it on my first attempt. -
i don't know if we need to bring words like "autistic" and "sociopath" into the argument as long as we can all agree that gjoni is a complete fucking choad, an abuser, and needs to go to asshole jail (where assholes rule)

I think reaction time is important in the most marginal cases - a game-winning teamfight at minute 70, really high-level pro play, things like that - but it's the last 1% of a formula that needs so many other things to go right before it ever comes up. I think the thing you're talking about is more, like... game sense, which is a nebulous and hard-to-define thing and has as much to do with the people whom you're playing with as it does about your individual contribution.

Bloodborne (Dark Souls 2 successor (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)))
natellite replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
The only thing I thought was weird about poison was that they saw fit to make a distinction between slow poison and fast poison? But for the life of me I can't think of a single time I was "fast poisoned." It felt like a mechanic left over from alpha or something. -

Honestly? Carry sedatives. It's pretty much the only time in the game you need them. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
natellite replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
It is true that Samuel Gompers was widely renowned for his Naruto Total Conversion mod for Skyrim before he went on to be the president of the AFL. I think Zinn dedicated a whole chapter to that. -

I was looking for an Ouya a little bit ago because the prospect of a cheap emulator box didn't sound like the worst thing in the world, but, like... I couldn't find one. The internet came up with a few people ebaying theirs for extortionate amounts, but nothing on Amazon or Best Buy or anything. Talk about failing to live up to expectations. -

Yeah, that's actually Konami's main business, as far as I'm aware. Health clubs and pachinko parlors. -

I'm so happy about D4! I love Swery and I want to support his projects but the prospect of buying an XBox for a $20 downloadable title... well, the math didn't work out. This is great. -

The dumbest thing about Sleazebaggano is that he's trying to push a drug called death sticks. Let's talk about marketing for a second. -
I'm definitely interested in this - I'm graduating in about three weeks and I need stuff to keep me busy and productive over the summer, haha.

Yeah, I think there's a huge difference between getting excited about a 10-minute E3 demo and getting excited about, like, a game that I have on my PS4 and am able to play right now. It sold me on the idea that maybe they cared about Silent Hill in a way that they clearly haven't done in years, and was fucking scary to boot. I don't know about mourning, but I think it's definitely a damn shame. If that final project was going to be anything like PT then it would have been right up my alley. How long until we see a Kojima kickstarter, you think?

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
natellite replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
The exact moment DS9 gets good is when Sisko shaves his head. That's the signifier. Does Sisko have hair? Skip it. (There are actually some pretty decent early episodes, and Move Along Home deserves a watch if only because, until Threshold came along, it was literally the most embarrassing Star Trek episode ever written) -

natellite replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
They had some trouble nailing Bashir down in early DS9, he gets way, way better. DS9 starts weak and ends up being the best trek series they ever made. -
Well, the Bruce Jenner interview was pretty much exactly as bad as you would expect

Jurassic World: Wasting away in Margaritaville
natellite replied to RubixsQube's topic in Idle Banter
Yeah, things like plot holes and continuity errors don't actually bother me, it's just that... I think the pure unabashed 90s Spielbergian-ness of the movie works as a campy historical artifact but when I was watching it the other day all I could think was "this movie is like the quintessential cookie-cutter plot of the 1990s." The villains were literally cartoonishly rich private investors. You can't get more 90s than that without a bowling alley floor print. Anyway, listen, I love Jurassic Park. If I hated it, I wouldn't even talk about it. :V -
Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics
natellite replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
Do any of yall use drafting software, like Hearth Arena or ArenaValue or whatever? Is something like that expected at this point? I'm pretty new and am largely ignorant of, like, the arena "metagame" but it seems like the most fun way to play the game, haha.
