  1. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Objection, retcon! Originally, Poe was supposed to die in Episode VII.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah, Milo is doing it for fun and, well, professional gain. The Ralph Retort with his literal nazi rhetorics is doing it for the hate. One more odd alliance.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Looks like it. Yiannopoulos now literally answers "What's so bad about feminism" with "It's cancer". He thinks he can "win 2016" with this new era of purposefully being uninformed... and, worst of all, unfunny.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Any indication of what broke the last straw for Milo? /edit: Account seems fairly active still though...? /edit2: Was Milo's head always this badly photoshopped...? /edit3: Oh, I see. With tweets like "When my cousin got cancer all I could think was: thank God it’s not feminism" and of course the hashtag #feminismiscancer, Milo was cruising for a bruising. It lost him followers. And buzzfeed has hired him... let's see how that plays out. I think I'm saving this screenshot for mid next year. Breitbart has indeed soared this last year, but then again, so did Trump. And yes I do have trust that a lot of US guys are coming to their senses in 2016.

The problem, just like with the 9/11 truther crap, is that there's not really a coherent 'conspiracy theory' you could dismantle or "debunk". There's a conspiracy faith, which tells them who the culprits are, and there are hundreds of purposefully unrelated artifacts of connections, correlations, questions or 'moments of doubt' all collected to point at the formerly chosen culprits. If one of those artifacts is raised in a discussion, sure you can disprove it easily, but gamergate supporters are, just like any conspiracy theorist, well able to switch to any other artifact immediately, thus preserving the underlying conspiracy faith. In most cases, they can even revert to bringing forth the already disproven argument in another discussion again.

I generally cheer at everything 80s I see in movies, but I liked that scene especially. I went into the theatre hoping for a lot of "do something funny with the old characters, let them be themselves". I guess we've seen Chewie fleshed out more than ever before. Not just through the Han/Chewie dynamics (which I found brilliantly emulated by Ford and Mayhew) but also on his own. And sure, those can be funny scenes. Chewie has always been a good bit comic relief. It's definitely not my 'favorite' scene but for some reason the moment I laughed hardest at was BB-8 giving thumbs up.

I'd vote against the term 'success' already. Getting gamergate supporters to even listen, that might be the true feat. Acknowledgements and concessions are direct admittance of fault, of having been 'wrong'. That is almost impossible to achieve, and when I aim at achieving such confessions, I set myself up for a humiliating debate experience Just like in your example, arguments may hit home days or weeks after a debate in good faith has taken place, and you may never get any 'satisfaction' out of it. That's probably the way it should be, because standing up for your values means just that. You have no obligation to convert gamergate supporters (the 'ego' thing to attempt), but you may have an obligation to correct falsehoods spread about your position. And boy there are quite a few.

There's always use for a good pilot in the Star Wars movies. Well, at least if the Death Stars keep coming.

First of all, yes, cartoon villains occasionally do exist in real life. Especially on the racist spectrum of villainy. Second, obviously, gamergate supporters come with different sets of ideas, and trolling is just one of the employed methods by certain activists. Unfortunately, the ludicrous belief in what is a literal cartoon villain, "the SJW", characterizes a vast percentage of supporters. I've had no chance to have a serious one-on-one discussion with a gamergate supporter (though I guess I managed to clarify some points of debate re. feminism for a forumite who had already become disgusted with gamergate by that point). I've entered my fair share of debates in gamergate leaning forums, but for every person willing to engage in an honest debate, half a dozen or more slinged insults and accusations. All that with a breathtaking double standard, as the brutal parallel abuse from the trolls was not acknowledged or challenged by the person willing to engage in debate. I'm still willing to engage in debate. I'm taking humanizing efforts by favoring the term "gamergate supporter" over "gamergater", as that seems to be the term favored by the people. But a real one on one situation, that is hard to come by on the internet, and I do think that a point of entry must exist first. The facade of the movement must have fairly huge cracks already for the person to become interested in debate. Because otherwise, essentially, you're the enemy. The Social Justice Warrior. An enemy concept created entirely in the fascist fashion, molded to mean exactly the opposite of the gamergate supporter. If someone is into that doctrine, how could he ever approach a discussion? And listen long enough to grasp, let's face it, fairly complex concepts of sociology or narratology? If you engage an actual troll, of course, argumentation becomes incredibly easy, but impact absolutely impossible. Zoe Quinn has discussed this futility with "Why are you so angry" guy Ian Danskin over twitter when that series came out, but I'm unable to find any links because I'm a total dunce at twitter.

Not quite, in my opinion. While I strongly dislike the "U mad bro" meme, it doesn't make fun of people who care, it makes fun of people outraged. Outrage, however, is one of the core things on the internet that needs to be carefully assessed on whatever side. There's just too damn much of it, and for so pitiful reasons.
  11. AARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH announce GOG release already.
  12. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Oh COME ON. Now Dina's tweets are protected. I liked those! What the hell did these motherfuckers do this time. I'm NOT registering with twitter, ever.

No, I unfortunately meant to say AMD. But I'm kind of happy that no one even remembers that misstep. Six months ago AMD released marketing material for the R9 300 series using the tagline "You are not dead" (which was maybe, maybe not a planned allusion to the "gamers are dead" strawman). Roy Taylor, Corporate Vice President Alliances at AMD, in June retweeted a post with that advert, the gamergate tag and the text "AMD knows what's up" from a suppy. That was basically the same kind of "wink wink we're on your side" that we're seeing today as a marketing strategy from some retailers, distributors and developers on the downslope of their success. Thankfully, the world gave a shit when that AMD thing happened, but indeed it did happen. Couldn't be more content with Intel! Heck, I guess their donations to feministfrequency have given them a full real team and has allowed Anita to plan several new entire series in addition to just TvW. Makes my heart sing when I see these old "what is gamergate" GG propaganda videos that still advertise Intel.
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It seems like not even that is accurate. "Not even a lawyer" seems to be closer to the mark.
  15. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Then again, direct2drive will experience about the same thing AMD did. I.e. that your products and services decide your sales, and as to the DRMd services of Direct2Drive... I give them one or two years. No need to even waste a second thought on their tweets.
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Okay, I have no idea what that all meant just now. Too much English legal language. The Probs guy looks cute though.

...OR they can lower the price because they import a far higher number of copies with less risk of having to bury them in the desert. Large orders placed can still be cancelled if what they're importing isn't even out for another two months. Before I spin any kind of 'gg don't walk the walk' narrative, I'm fairly certain play-asia is experiencing good sales right now. Judging from website popularity statistics, their marketing ploy has given them a fairly good spike that will definitely have increased sales somewhat. What I'm unsure about is the reason for that huge spike between December 2014 and March 2015, which far surpasses the success of their recent declaration of moral bankruptcy.
  18. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

That sounds like Abrams is doing Star Trek Beyond like Steven Spielberg did Back to the Future...?
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

How about a catchy slogan...? "1milliongamersstrong – making up and photoshopping crap today to criticise and harass feminist critics for tomorrow"? http://feministfrequency.com/2015/12/10/harassment-through-impersonation-the-creation-of-a-cyber-mob/

Just become aware that Kern has his own twitter version. Fancy military badge like logo, nazi color scheme white/red/black, the works. Why, you ask, aren't there enough twitter wannabes already? Well, no, according to Kern. Because this one has capital letter FREEDOM. And FREEDOM is evidently something you need to FIGHT for (my emphasis): Well, I guess with the League for Gamers, we won't be seeing any more of the really really bad changes in the present industry: microtransactions, DLC, monopolous PC distributors, a bustling indie scene or feminist critics treating the medium like a proper narrative art form. Here's the solution, here's the unmoderated cure! And I guess Marky has a sound plan for the methods of his revolution... ahhhh I see. Hear, hear! If it's not harassment by the letter of the law, it's not harassment. Besides, the first amendment of what? Or is this just a website for people who accidentally live on the same slab of land as Kern does? However! I guess everything's all right if educated people can express complex thought on the site, with 1,000 word+ posts and... Oh well.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Can we not go there? And not just because an outspokenly gay, outspokenly christian man seems concerned with female purity here? Ridicule and memeification are Yiannopoulos' as well as gamergate's only available borderline verbal weapons, so they are used liberally. That's better than their other routes, really. As to why: We've experienced quite well three pages ago how Yiannopoulos looks if he actually tries to make sense in a debate. So consequently, he just doesn't try.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yes, I saw that. I'm also getting more of a team vibe from the tweets now, and I lllllike it. If Sarkeesian has set video games back another 20 years, where are video games now exactly? 1920? Also, Mark Kern at least has definitely NOT set video games back 20 years! In fact, he was a tripping hazard turned stepping stone in demonstrating the stupidity of AAA extravagance. I'm looking forward to his reaction when he finds out that these changes all mean a significant expansion of the feministfrequency project.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

No, you're pretty on the mark. "Against" is the defining trait. Even the repeated cry for free speech falls silent immediately when journalists evidently 'censor' unsuccessful and unreleased games with their deplorable potential exercise of free speech rights.
  24. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah... I think that is the crux with tying gamergate supporters to a fixed political direction. They have this of that and that of this strain of thought, and they think this of themselves while doing that. And it gets much more complicated once you leave the US spectrum. Literally 'conservative' thought is definitely at the heart of gamergate. Or 'preservative' rather. They're scared to death by rather elementary, not even that modern ideas; they see any kind of media criticism as an attack and insult; and any change, real or imagined, as necrosis. That still doesn't make it easy to tie gamergate or the many opposing groups to any one of only just two 'political' 'sides'.
