  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Those were the bits that I saw that was really really bad, because I read that it happened in 2006 ~ 2010? I mean holy shit that's recent.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That pill actually sounds like it would be excellent for the problem you mentioned IF it was not permanent (cause our penal system is just so far from perfect). Otherwise yeah it's... very troubling to say the least because from my short google search, too much awful stuff resulted from allowing mandatory castration.
  3. Things to look forward to?

Oh heck yeah, steam release FTW
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

According to wiki, it (taking away right to have babies, somewhat close proximity to having sex (especially back then when medical tech was much inferior and I assume artificial insemination was not a thing?)) was tested to be NOT unconstitutional by SCOTUS in 1927. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_v._Bell Errrrrrrrrr Edit: clarified that it was not on topic of sex, but rather, to make babies. Edit2: nvm, looks like artificial insemination dates back to late 1884... won't post details for reasons.
  5. Summarizing a game

Because that's what elevator pitch is, it's super brief description. Nuanced stuff isn't meant to do well in an elevator pitch because you are suppose to grab the attention right there immediately. For the most part anyways. Obviously such a pitch can differ and if you are pitching it to a hardcore platform fan then you can go with a pitch about nuanced bit of how camera is separately controlled to allow fluid 3d movement or how you would use shadow to make platform positioning in 3d world work. But in general elevator pitch should be broader. It is a good idea to identify whom you are talking to (I would have different pitch for strategy game to say, Sid Meirs or Soren vs Kojima) but you were asking for generic advice so that's why I pushed for generic one. Theme is important btw, otherwise we would all be able to sell math textbooks just as well. Edit: Just got an interesting comparison... we live in an age where so many people are carrying smartphones... so perhaps elevator pitch doesn't have to be limited to words. Like whatever you can fit on say, twitter, would make a good pitch. That would include GIFs, which are pretty much video version of elevator pitch.
  6. Summarizing a game

Using genre description is too likely too come off as generic (unless you are doing something bizarre with the genre but still that has dangers of sounding like gimmicky pitch). "third person action game" no don't call it that. What are you suppose to be in that game? For example, let's look at Phoenix Wright. Genre wise you can call it a visual novel... that's bad pitch, doesn't tell us a thing exciting about the game. Instead, here is CEO of Paradox, Fredrik Wester's elevator pitch for that game - "A game about being a badass Lawyer". Monster Hunter - Becoming a super warrior by wearing parts of monsters you hunt Super Mario 64 - Platformer... except you move in completely 3d environment (to be frank the game is actually quite boring to describe outside of its era and IP context (which is that it's a Mario game and one of the first games to get the 3d platforming right)
  7. Life

Glad to hear you are doing better~ Life is always harder than I imagined.
  8. Episode 312: Historical Accuracy

Indeed. France WC? "Not a problem". Decently managed China survives? "Outrageously a-historical, affront to all logic and reason". On side note, every time unified Japan invades Korea around late 1500 or early 1600 (which happens A LOT in current beta version), I always smile at how well that part is pulled off. The rest depends on Korea's status with Ming of course.
  9. Episode 312: Historical Accuracy

Ah shit Duke, the bright text on black background gave my eyes some serious screen burns I think that article is actually not that controversial... like if anything, the most overall 'best' tank is most commonly referred to as Panther while T-34 is, just as that article points out, praised more on strategic level (cheap mass produced tank that still nailed the big design goals in raw power). One thing though is that the author assumes the choice between something more refined vs actual t34 is readily available... I wonder if that really was the case? I mean, did the Soviet Union in 1941 ~ 1943 really have the capability of adopting production method of Nazi Germany at its finest? Like, can you use same workers, factory and tools to produce 1000 Honda Civics to make 10 Ferrari? But that's minor gripe. If you guys want something more painful look at PDX forum... https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/rant-on-unreal-westernization.869424/
  10. Philosophy & Economics

Cordeos, what do you mean 'for decades'? Didn't Russia gave it a try with Ukraine like a year ago? Or was Ukraine too unstable to count?
  11. Philosophy & Economics

Because they probably can't do that and come out ahead due to Greece's proximity/relative stability? Or the bankers behind this don't have such direct access to hard power?
  12. Philosophy & Economics

"hey Kim Jon Un, you want to burrow some money? just cancel your nuke program and you can burrow all the money you want!"
  13. Philosophy & Economics

Yeah I was wondering if I read those parts right... Granted, before I get on my own high horse to criticize them, my government did invade multiple countries to enact similar changes so :x
  14. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

tee hee This one for more chatter muahhahahaa
  15. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Ahhh so... YOU. already. KNOW. ABOUT. THE. voice. ACTING. It's on steam if disc ever gives you trouble BTW, under name ARMA Cold War Assault. "MACHINEGUNNER. is. History."
  16. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

In a way it is because maps are gigantic with little to no landmark to speak of (every other town look alike, but you will mostly see bunch of trees and hills). But on the other hand, you are given a map, compass, and handy waypoint on your UI so it ends up being interesting mix of two. Ultimately I think if you just use the map frequently, it's very easy to not get lost because unlike smaller games, there is no "maze-like" areas that would make you go in a circle. Ben X, I'm eagerly waiting for you to get to Operation Flashpoint to hear about what you have to say about that game
  17. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Have you tried Operation Flashpoint or ARMA series?
  18. Project SSDC; Action-Strategy Hybrid Early Alpha

    I most certainly will! thanks~
  19. Project SSDC; Action-Strategy Hybrid Early Alpha

Still busy working on invisible under the hood stuff but for now here is the overhauled impression shot~ The game will primarily be about connecting existing cities and having such actions causing domino effect of sort based on city's cultures and personality but not much more I can say beyond that since I have to test the system more to see if it's anything remotely like what I was thinking of... wish me luck~
  20. [Dev Log] Victors & Vanquished: Dynamic Grand Strategy

The battle shots remind me of this old castle themed game for Mac that I adore a while back~!
  21. Episode 310: EU4Ever: Common Sense

I'm reading through most helpful negative reviews and I feel some major gripes with the reviews themselves. Every point of valid criticism seems to be paired with stuff that are just factually wrong or contradictory to reviewer's previous criticism. Take this one where the guy says there is too much focus on monarch points, then goes right back to say new buildings that now doesn't cost monarch points to be useless even if they offer pretty much same bonus as before but just doesn't cost monarch points. Every single ones complaining about rebels popping up and sieging provinces too fast to react... the rebels have a % that is always visible that they need to fill up to 100 before firing, and it often takes years to fill up. How can I take such criticism seriously when they refuse to heed the warning like that for years? I think coring/diplo cost increase is bad because it's contradictory to game's primary language (grabbing more land) but so many of these reviews are just really bad. One thing though, is that AI is indeed not so hot with the new fort system, and with movement lock option it's easier than ever to bait and stackwipe AI. Current beta patch kind of 'fixed' the increased coring cost by splitting adm efficiency into 3 pieces with 20% each (so total is now 60%, 10% more than before) with first piece unlocking way earlier like in adm tech 18 or 19? It also made province development little too good so HRE remains this meat grinder where every AI major tries to dip their foot in there gets too high AE, gets massive HRE coalition and die. Muscovy AI also suffers from similar fate. Kinda whacky as heck but it's really dynamic.
  22. Philosophy & Economics

I always had super weak grasp of economics but this stuff is helping me getting slightly better grasp of it. Much thanks to everyone (especially you Gorm) involved in the discussion. Edit: Ok so to be clear, Gorm, your theory is that the creditors in Germany have intentionally let the Greek Gov get the loans while understanding that they most likely could not pay back... And here is where it gets little tricky for me so I wanted to double check, which is, then they had this debt with interest that they knew would never materialize, but then sold that credit for profit (cause of interested added). And these creditors are now blaming the Greeks for their inability to pay? Is that right? Basically the corruption is where rich keeps bouncing credit of burrowed money that would never be paid back so that someone else ends up with empty promise and the blame falls on the debtor?
  23. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Yeah I'm NA Eastern time zone Gah I would have bought you one if I wasn't such a poor fucktard right now : / Expansion was really good until I let my near gambling addiction level addiction drive me insane.
  24. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Fuck invulnerable Minions + Waller + Arcane. It's the worst urgh but I think they removed that combo from being possible now? Like was it invulnerable minions that got removed in the expansion? Kinda forgot but I do recall expansion being free of most of BS that plagued vanilla D3. Only thing that stops me from damning vanilla D3 for eternity is the fact that I made about $90+ in real money AH. So both of you guys mentioned certain volatility that exists in diablo games and yeah you know what, I agree. However, wouldn't you also agree that good majority of time in diablo games is you laying waste to helpless mobs?
  25. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

kekeke, I guess it's the Korean farmer lineage (omg fuck this game (actually fuck all Korean MMOs, most grindiest worst stuff ever urgggg)) running strong in me. In D3 hardcore whenever I faced a mob I couldn't one shot, I just went back to something I could and kill that over and over. Basically I played that game like the most boring thing ever, and I guess it says something about my online gaming habit as well since everyone I socialized with also played like that, except I just spent more time kekeke :x T_T Edit: Oh man BC raiding talk brings back my pre-something memories~ Sums up about 4 years of my life playing Arena hardcore. I made some people cry. What an ass I was.
