  1. Twin Peaks Rewatch 0: The Pre-Episode

I think it would be kinda nice if they condensed some of the later, less... good... Episodes into casts that were cut in half.
  2. I thought it might be related to the tutoring or whatever that Laura did for Audrey's brother. Maybe its a trip that the Horne's gave her for the help, or something. Or as further evidence that Audrey is still such a teenager, and is liable to make bizarre statements about people that are her friends but she isn't quite sure about.
  3. Twin Peaks Rewatch 0: The Pre-Episode

Having not seen FWWM and still engaging here (I don't care much about spoilers with this show in particular)
  4. An interesting thing I noticed about the show that you kind of commented on is that the idiosyncratic nature of the universe allows for actors to get away with what may not traditionally appealing acting. There are some geniunely bad performances (James), but then also there are performances that are so bizarre and intriguing I don't know what to think of them (Leo, Nadine, Pete)
  5. Twin Peaks Rewatch 0: The Pre-Episode

    Eraserhead spoilers
  6. Twin Peaks Rewatch 6: Cooper's Dreams

"I'm Audrey Horne and I get what I want." Is classic. It actually angers me because when watching S1 I thought Audrey was the coolest, and then . Also, a sublot in this show is the much-deserved continual curbstomps done on Leo Johnson. It sheds lots of light on the situation when you see how his sphere of influemce seemingly goes about as far as high school kids and his wife. He's a shitbag and always deserves it, but there's a very small amount of tragedy to this continuous fuckup of a man.
  7. Twin Peaks Rewatch 0: The Pre-Episode

The Its Happening Again scene is also a masterpiece. Brutal, beautiful, solemn, its everything Twin Peaks is in like eight minutes. I saw it at like 12 at night and just had my mouth agape the entire time.
  8. And, if they had decided on the killer fairly early on, it makes scenes especially horrific. Going along with previous discussions tied into that article, I think that one of the ways Twin Peaks could be considered valuable in a critical sense is how well it hid razor blades in bubblegum. I have to imagine, even if you somehow were only interested in the James/Laura/Donny posthumous love triangle or the murder mystery, you would still be somehat intrigued or at least befuddled by everything else that wasn't quite right. At that time, I don't get the impression that anything quite as dark as Twin Peaks was on air on the big networks.
  9. Listening to Patrick Klepeks Lost rewatch podcast I've heard what a longer spoiler segment might sound like, and if people haven't recently watched the show in question it'll probably go "Didn't X work this way" "Maybe? I think so... Whatever, someone will write in."Edit: Then again, Lost does have the most absurdly complex lore ever and almost 85% of it is almost completely unmemorable outside of the context of being into the shows mystery.
  10. Hawk has moments of badassery, and its certainly not unimportant to his character, but he's also portrayed at times as being kind of a regular dude. It makes him kinda confusing as a character. There's a scene in S2 where When TVTropes writes about Hawk, the editor contends that the character usually defies attempts to be stereotyped on the show by other characters (like the weird Spirits scene) where they (the writers) try to have their cake and eat it too. Wow, that was disorganized and rambling.
  11. Twin Peaks Rewatch 4: Rest in Pain

I think, especially with Lynch, it enhances the experience understanding that not everything that happens has an express purpose when it comes to furthering the plot. Things just happen a lot, and the beauty is in personal interpretation.
  12. In response to your spoiler
  13. There was some discussion earlier on about how strange it is to have a Wall Street-esque cold hearted businessman in Twin Peaks juxtaposed against all these other people. I'd just like to point out how that caper goes even deeper with the ludicrous sawmill subplot. The fact that Horne goes out in the middle of the woods to go meet with Leo Johnson, the most deadbeat useless human imagineable to conspire in arson is great. Also from the Wikipedia page "Tamblyn improvised elements of his performance, including a magic trick involving two golf balls, which was something he had learned and wished to include during his role in the episode." Which is also amazing.
  14. I'm continually fascinated by Dr. Jacoby. He's such a bizarre presence in the context of the town, and his sly revelations to avoid breaching confidentiality are so weird.
  15. Twin Peaks Rewatch 4: Rest in Pain

One thing I'm surprised no one brought up is how ridiculous it is that they recast Laura as HER COUSIN and then made her an almost central character. Thats a thing I love about Twin Peaks. Its chock full of meta-moments that absolutely confound me but mean almost nothing to the characters. All interactions on why Maddie looks exactly like Laura just with dark hair end with, "Yeah, huh, how about that."
  16. It just occurred to me. While not essential, I hope you guys discuss Albert more when you get the chance. The punch scene gets a different weight when you understand better the strange and difficult path of Albert Rosenfeld
  17. Twin Peaks Rewatch 4: Rest in Pain

But, in classical airhead teenager fashion, his protectiveness goes as far as "If he does this AGAIN, I'll do something about it."
  18. Twin Peaks Rewatch 4: Rest in Pain

Laura's mother and father both have deeply disturbing scenes of grief. Many TV shows and films just want you to UNDERSTAND that a character is experiencing grief, the camera won't stay on their tears for long. Lynch wants you to just sit and squirm and feel all the emotions associated with loss. He's a master of making things deeply resonant in relatively simple ways. Edit: looking at it more, Lynch didn't direct this episode. But his influence is obviously there.
  19. In response to an offhanded comment Chris made about the name BOB, I'm excited to know what makes you dislike the name. Besides the "ugh-ness" of having Mike and Bobby and MIKE and BOB. But that's probably not a week three discussion.
  20. One thing I thought about in this sequel will be the very conservative way they portrayed an older Cooper, basically just with some grey in his hair. He doesn't look quite like that.
  21. The modern context of such a coat is sort of interesting, I guess. Its really making some sort of statement, it kinda can't not. I can say that Kyle really can pull it the hell off, though. He's a very attractive man.
  22. He abides in the world in a zen way. He actually plays a trope interestingly. At first he appears to be the ultra-competent attractive man with the coat that understands everything. But, soon, you start to understand HE doesn't understand everything, he just accepts it all
  23. In Coopers defense, Also, in response to the discussion of magical realism, there is an interesting scene in season two
