  1. Unity Questions Thread

Sorry for the fumbling attempt to say things haha. But yeah thats great thanks, that helps me set a direction to head in . Ill set up a tile class and go from there.
  2. Unity Questions Thread

At the moment integers which correspond to the texture sample on the tile.
  3. Unity Questions Thread

Nice write up^. This isn't really a question I just though id say some things. Im a complete beginner and I'm just tinkering around trying to figure out how to make a rudimentary 2d builder game(of prison architect ilk). So far i'v got three scripts, one which generates a tile grid and displays a texture on it, another which stores data for each tile and that tiles location and another which collects mouse information. I was wondering how would you folk go about putting this kind of thing together?
  4. So cool man, well done. Smithereens is looking sick aswell.
  5. [Release] A Grave Ghost

Awesome! That ghost dog is great.
  6. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Haha ok I see now. That shot is indeed awesome, I would love to explore the ruins of something that vast in a game.
  7. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I don't really know what you mean by that but yeah? Not really a huge star wars fan though.
  8. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I don't know, the star destroyer could of been trying to semi land but was too busted up to do it properly. It's not a given that it fell out of space or slamed into the surface at full speed.
  9. Welcome to WIZARD JAM

Oh yah thanks for the suggestion, Ill have a gander at twine. I reckon i'd use unity though as I'm pretty comfortable with it. But prototyping it there could be a good idea.
  10. Welcome to WIZARD JAM

Ugghh I don't know whether to take a dive or not. I want to be doing music but I also would love to chuck a proper game together. If I could control time i'd do both. I was thinking of doing a sort of dialog/management type game that explores psychology, propaganda and communication. The premise is you are a PR guy for an eccentric dictator and it is your job to convince the oppressed citizens that the leader is making wise decisions. Like papers please a day is sort of a level and each morning you must address a crowd from a high balcony and try keep things under control using dialog/props/bribes/threats. If you don't solve the problems during the day theres a chance the crowd may camp out and you will have two problems to deal with the next day. It worsens as the days go by and the dictator slips into insanity running the country into the ground. Your job increases in difficulty and absurdity until your really being pushed to justify the bizarre new laws being introduced. A brief idea for the kinds of tools you can employ could be logical fallacies often found in politics as well as non dialog options like bribery("diplomatic pouch") and military action. These are limited though and can not be used exclusively IE too much military leads to a revolution. I think at some point crowds turn into mobs which are more volatile and difficult to sway. Id tie it to the thumbs episode "diplomatic pouch". but argggh indecision. Typing this out hasn't solved anything either so argghh.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Thats interesting Christopher. Do you think there are many people who might not be as fanatical over there? I wonder if they could be convinced otherwise under the right conditions.
  12. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That makes me so uncomfortable in such a depressing way :/ Theres like something terrible going on in each and every line.
  13. Hahaha clyde that frog was fantastic. nice. I guess ill repost this, I put this together recently as an interactive demo thing for a sound job at a gamestudio. The sounds not actually that great but I was hoping they would see how willing I was to dedicate time to something. https://www.dropbox....GtjEFbCJwa?dl=0 Its pretty much entirely based on googled scifi pics because im no artist. Iv since learned the audio is kinda broke. certain noises are glitched out a little(passingships) bit which bums me out. At the time i was working on this I thought it was just my soundcard and would work on other pcs..
  14. Feminism

I saw this on twitter as an unintentionally funny article. Dont know if its serious but if so i'm amused somebody can intergrate their sexism into a chicken recipe http://www.donotlink.com/framed?663704 bolded in particular
  15. The Big VR Thread

This excites me, if vr/ar is indeed more than a gimmick theres going to be a whole new medium to explore. I think your right in that VR would be able to have its own distinct way of depicting ideas and I am so excited to think that we all get to get on at the ground level. Damn im excited. So many possibilities. If this whole thing blows over as a gimmick i think ill become the biggest cynic in the world. Also I agree about the potential for terrible content WickedCestus but think the other side of coin could be worth it. Imagine how potent a well thought out VR experience could be and how much you could positively effect people. Also yeah I don't think regular gamings going anywhere, I think VR is sort of a different medium and will only deviate away from standard video games as it calcifies its own rules and techniques.
  16. Reaching for the dream - Making music

well, like i said most daws are pretty all round good. I think you would be fine with any, fruities can still be a very functional recording platform but is probably less so when compared with protools for example.
  17. Reaching for the dream - Making music

Yah most big known daws are pretty good, it really depends on what you want out of it. I use ableton which is great for in the box stuff and electronic music, Fruities is pretty sweet and I know plenty of people who swear by it. like ableton, fruities is electronic music orientated. I think fruitys has a free forever thing too so you can get version updates forever once you have bought it. If you want to ever get into recording you might want to think about more technical industry daws like Protools or maybe Cubase. Protools is great for heavy recording and more traditional audio roles while Cubase is somewhere in between that and ableton/fruity. Theres also logic which is mac only, I think its pretty good. I cant comment on the libraries that come with any of these because iv only ever used customized versions of everything. So yeah just pick one and go with it, I don't think there's any real drawbacks to any except maybe protools which is expensive and doesn't cater to electronic music too well. Also go learn synthesis. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may99/articles/synthsec.htm
  18. Plug your shit

Haha got it, ive been there (and still am really). That sounds cool though. Does KRISTAL come with any default VSTs? I use Ableton Live 9 with a handful of third party plugins. I think FL is pretty great I have a few buddies who can create magic with it and swear by it. Although i'm not sure how great it is with recording and traditional studio stuff. Both Ableton and FL are producer DAWS through and through. FL is a way better deal though, it is relatively cheap and I think they do free updates. Also has a ton of cool plugins that come with it so id say definitely try it out and see what you think.
  19. Plug your shit

Thanks Definitely, I'd love to hear. What kind of music is it?
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/robin-thicke-and-pharrell-lose-blurred-lines-lawsuit-20150310 I guess that gives an idea(I havn't read thoroughly). Essentially the song "Blurred Lines" written by Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke was deemed plagiarism of Marvin Gaye's " Got to give it up". Marvin Gayes family won 7 million as a result. The song has a very similar vibe to Gaye's track but they are different. Which is like many many many songs out there. After thinking about it a bit I care less, I don't think these kinds of cases will come up often and I doubt it will have any real impact on most artists. Still i wish more people would understand that great ideas don't happen in a vacuum(not that i'm saying blurred lines is a great idea).
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

As a producer the Blurred Lines verdict infuriates me. I mean the amount of artists who have knowingly or unknowingly ripped off another at some point or another is 100%. Music/ideas don't work like property you can't just own it like a house. It has to be available for reinterpretation by other artists. UHHH. If one artist releases a song identical to another with the same points and ideas then I think there might be a case but other wise no. If the Blurred Lines verdict were applied to artists 30 years ago there would be no rap/hip hop. If the Blurred Lines verdict were applied to all artists now you would turn art into a "what chord progressions do I have left" game.
  22. Plug your shit

Bummer, here's sound cloud version. https://soundcloud.com/nzmonark/someone
  23. Yeah a theme would be cool. Also would love to give it a go, roughly when would this be occurring? As for input about barriers, I find creating textures to be the worst and longest part of the whole process. getting animations made and transferred from blender to unity is a close second.
  24. Plug your shit

Hey just looking for any opinions on this music. https://soundcloud.com/nzmonark/someone Anybody like it? Also @ thehollownight that looks fantastic. Really really fantastic. Looping animation gifs are also great.
  25. The Big VR Thread

What if somebody started a company that works like arcades used to? That would solve the problem of being physically unfeasible. Its also seems like it might suit the slightly gimmicky nature of current VR. I think people are more likely to go to the VRcade(?) for some quick paced VR with buddies than invest a whole room to it. I reckon in the long term VR could become feasible in everyone's homes but for the next ten years or so somebody could provide a venue.
