I am about to start down this terrible path of learning Unity with only a bit of basic coding experience. It is my honest intention to document and blog both my learning process and the results as they develop. I have the game concept, and i have the tools... All I need now is some spare time.

After quitting it 3 or so times I finally finished Demon's Souls. I bought it years ago when it was still fairly new after hearing about how brutal it was, but in playing it I just couldn't make myself finish. It wasn't until the slightly friendlier Dark Souls came out and I beat it 3 times that I found myself in that perfect center of wanting more Dark Souls but finished with that game for the time being, having nothing really screaming at me to play next, and finally able to accurately control anything using a sixAxis controller (they aren't bad, I just don't like them.) And it might be my favourite in the series now.

The SL1 run concept puts the fear in me so bad. There are still 3-4 areas in that game that I rely on my level to allow me to brute force my way through. That RE4 port on Steam has been staring me down for a while now. If it's good, please share your findings. I love that game and I think I've played every version of it so far, save that one. Yes, even the iPad version.

Hello... I'm 34 and have been playing whatever I could get my hands on since I was 6 and got an Atari 2600. I've worked as a graphic designer and prepress operator for the last 10+ years and in the last year or so I've gotten back into learning how to code in a variety of languages. That has led me to download Unity and start poking at C# and javascript as it relates to game design, so I'm sure at some point this year I'll be heavily leaning on the developer's forum. I'M SO INTERESTING.

First - am I correct in assuming Nintendo "dying" means they leave the hardware market and sell Mario games on other platforms? Every time I think Nintendo can survive anything I think about Sega. I was a Genesis kid, and the Dreamcast was is one of my favourite systems of all time. When they left the hardware market part of me died with them. In my weird emotional child brain I don't want to see Nintendo systems stop getting made.. Although I have stopped buying them, so my rational adult brain says they should shutter the hardware side today and start putting classic and new games on Steam and sell USB controllers for Windows and Apple. I'd buy an N64 library and good controller in a heartbeat if it were available. Hell, I'd keep a NES, SNES, GC and N64 USB controller beside my couch all the time if it meant I could boot up those games in a good and licensed emulation environment. So in summary I both want Nintendo to leave hardware and I want them to keep making systems forever. Because nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Well I think I have my next DS run then. That is both excellent and terrible news. Some day I hope to play a game that's not from the Souls series.

Which smith is that? The guy in the cage down that first elevator? (I've lost every single name involved in that description. I'm sorry.)

Another great episode. I could talk for days on Demon's to Dark to Dark II Souls games.

Bloodborne (Dark Souls 2 successor (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)))

Oh man I spent a time in deep love with Chromehounds. Also on the topic, if Project Beast ends up being a worthy entry into the souls franchise it will sell me a PS4. A new entry into that franchise every year would burn me out real quick, though. I could probably do every 2ish years. However long it takes the core team (though that was recently shuffled for DaS2) to make another quality entry is a perfect amount of time between releases, if you ask me. -
What's it like going pure magic user in Dark Souls? I played Demon's Souls most recently that way (started as the Royal, I know I know wussy easy mode) and it was both totally viable and a ton of fun. The big difference from Demon's to Dark that I remember in that regard, though, was that in Dark Souls I don't recall ever seeing an item that would replenish uses on a spell. How do you make the long treks sometimes required with limited spell ammunition? In Demon's Souls I was carrying mana potion equivalent and had the ring that slowly regenerated mana, but if I was stuck using my sword to dispatch anything stronger than an unarmed hollow I was running for the stone.

I'd agree with the above posts, but if I had to pick one I'd say that an increase in screen resolution should mean that I see more game and less UI.

Which means that Roddy Piper vs Keith David scenes are batting 1.000 I just rechecked on youtube. Yup, still awesome.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Winnipeg Fats replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I am ashamed to say I've quit Link to the Past probably 10 times over the years. I keep saying I'm going to go back into it, but the results are always the same. I get about as far as the Dark World and something else gets my attention. -
