Re: Helldivers' crossplay I'm assuming this is something they're going to fix, but this game currently doesn't have any way to invite someone to your game. Lots of seemingly basic PSN functionality isn't present. The cross-play doesn't seem to be quite 100% yet; I saw YoThatLimp playing the game (on PS3) on my friends list, but within Helldivers itself, it only showed them as online, not as playing the game. That said, apparently people have had luck joining a random's game and playing together on different systems that way. It's weird.

Oh for sure. Another thing they could do is make their "cross-whatever" a bigger deal. If you look on the PS Store, it's usually a small thing near the bottom of the description. Seeing the terms more often would help make it clearer what they are. I don't think there are any other games that are cross-play in the same sense that Helldivers is. I know there are some that are PS3/Vita or PS4/Vita, but even then it's rare.

The PS Blog post specifically says "Helldivers features cross play, cross chat, and cross save between PS4, PS3 and PS Vita." I can't see them splitting them like that without good reason.

I'm not sure if you can play across platforms. That'd be something to test. I'd assume PS4/Vita is more likely than having PS3 in the same mix, but hard to say. PS+ is required to play online on PS4, but like JonCole said, it's cheap enough and you get free games every month out of it, so it's loads better than the average subscription fee. Edit: you can pay by month. Do not do this. If you do it monthly, it's absolutely not worth it. I think the scale is 1 month for $9.99, 3 for $17.99, and 1 year for $49.99.

The main benefit to two controllers is when one dies you can switch to the other and keep playing. The included charge cable is way too short, so unless you've got a longer one, the only way to play while it charges is to sit right beside your console. My girlfriend doesn't really game so I don't need a second controller for that, though it'd be nice to have so if a friend comes over we can both play.

I started on that last night. Really enjoyed the couple levels I played. Big fan of the visual style.

For sure! At the rate I've been playing most games this last while, I've yet to catch up on all the free games I've gotten, which is kind of awesome. They definitely made PS+ better with the regular updates to it. I remember when it first launched it was very irregular with the updates.

More like $4 a month if you pay for a year upfront. Then you count free games every month and it practically pays for itself! (especially if you have all 3 systems) Still, fair enough. Added you. I got to play a handful of missions last night with a friend. Really liking it so far. Can't wait to play with more people!

It actually came out yesterday! I think I'll buy it and get it downloaded so it's ready when I get home.

Making it more fluid is definitely a good way to go. For the most part it felt pretty stilted and broke the flow, so if they can remedy that, I think they'll have a winner.

I need to look into Helldivers some more. All for coop gaming but hard sell when it's hard to get a group together! Valiant Hearts is excellent. This kinda really sells me on it. So long as I have people to play with!

Yeah, the parking garage was annoying too. It took some trying, but this time through I managed to do it without shooting anyone. I really hope the new one really capitalizes on how it felt to move and less so on the less than stellar combat. And hopefully polishes what combat will inevitably be in there. I avoided engaging enemies where I could because all too often they could knock me back through whatever attack I was doing, especially jump kicks (wtf?).

Even at the height of my fluency, I never would have tried to tackle Monte Cristo in old French. I can see that being quite the challenge. I'm at this point now. I've started reading A Dance with Dragons and I'm finding I just don't care anymore. Pretty sure I'm stopping here. I can just watch the show if I want to come back to Westeros.

Finished Mirror's Edge over the weekend. Second time through, first being when it launched. The running still feels fresh, and they mapped it really well for a controller. Probably the most enjoyable traversal in a first-person game. Just like my first time through it, I kinda hated the server room section at the end of the game.

Oh man, this sounds so up my alley.

I am intrigued by this. I'll have to check it out once I've got my PC running again. Or if it ever comes to PSN.
