Justin McElroy has a new video series "Things I Bought at Sheetz"
i dont know the backstory or origins of this bit, but the Grapes one made me laugh for a while

I know splatoon will probably occupy most time this weekend I finally got around to figuring out custom tournaments in Mario Kart. Also posted in Nintendo ID thread
Setup a weekly weekend tournament for Mario Kart
Its probably using my local time settings for the times so I left time open pretty much all day sat/sun cst
Tournament ID
6782-9091-4872
Idle Thumbs 5.2015
0030 Saturday through 2330 Sundays CST (-6 GMT)
150cc
All items/vehicles
8 races, base cups only
I figure I would tweak the settings based on feedback and participation. If it turns out folks want 100 or 200cc or everyone has dlc packs I'll shift the track availability
(Apparently if dlc is turned on then must have to participate, don't want to lock anyone out)

Fortunately my wife and I have similar palate choices - no sea food, similar vegetable aversions, no major diet restrictions on either side.
I have a hard time judging people that are picky eaters since most of my vegetable or food dislikes are irrational and i recognize it, but have no plans of making changes in my life anytime soon. I am actually more likely to try something new in a public setting to avoid exposure of a particular dislike or asking for an extreme change to a menu item at a restaurant
Cooking though at home is no a problem as my partner doesn't like meat on a bone (ribs, bone-in steaks, chicken wings/drum sticks) or any sort of mushrooms - but i can make those for myself if I have a strong desire and either pre-cut them off for her or tell her to eat cereal instead. And i also found out recently that she does not like chili and i had been making different variations nearly every weekend the last 3-4 winters in the crockpot.
What has been a problem as of late is pregnancy food aversions. Chicken in any form but shredded gives her instant nausea and other staples of our menu have been sorted out (pork, . It has been causing a lot of repeats in weekly meal planning which is grating on me, lately it has been grilled hotdogs and tater tots > 2x a week.
On that topic I am a few years away from a child that can decide their own food, but am hopeful that I will lead him to an open mind and to try things - and no alternate meals for irrational food pouting. Will check back in May 2018

i want a blue and a persian, but with the kid on the way my wife thinks 5 cats and a newborn will be too much & push us on the wrong side of the crazy-cat people fence
there was a persian siamese mix last time we were looking in shelters but got a day too late and was already spoken for

i saw/listened to most of the day's matches. i was painting a good portion of my house and had it playing on my wii-u handset since my tablet is on the fritz and phone burns battery too fast
It felt a lot like listening to baseball and was very impressed with the commentary/casters being able to word-picture the fights and action going on.
My wife couldnt understand how I had it on all day and wasnt actually watching, but when I made that analogy to baseball made more sense
Lets go Mouse! they had a great ~60min game today too that was pretty great vs Root but lost the second of the series. It'll be interesting how the whole thing shakes out, complexity is playing really well and Wheel isnt going quietly.

ive been playing a lot of smash bros this weekend. i had someone over and we played for probably 4 hrs 1v1 3xStock while my pregnant wife made dinner and then slept
I havent spent a lot of time in the single player, but now i'm all about doing the challenges, trophies, and getting unlocks. splatoon may derail this, but im still not 100% on picking it up.
i'm sure a quick google will answer this, but is the 2-player local confirmed with the big August post-launch dlc release? or is just on the list of things "going to happen"

dont teach kids that, its all about speed digging with toad

If anyone has a ticket for TI2015 check out the first round of Unknown vs. EGX. Shadowfiend is goddamn AMAZING in that match, and there's a super great Roshan snipe by Clockwork.
i saw that with the clockwerk, pretty amazing. their SF use was really strong too, but i think a better team would be able to diffuse it, that undying was a sentient melee creep.
as to the roster problems, i saw i a lot of "Standin" tags being used on people's player handles. I thought there were explicit notes about all team members must be present for these qualifiers since it is essentially an open tournament and the opportunity for ringers would be too high.
I like the idea of a open tourney to get a group of good/lucky people in to ultimately get smashed by pro teams, but if people are going to abuse it and bring in a rotating group of players it really ruins the fun for everyone.

So, i really didn't like DKCR. I like Rare's original series well enough, but found that Retro's reboot kind of lost the things i liked most about those earlier games. (The tag-team mechanics, among other things.) With that context, do you still think i should look into Tropical Freeze?
I did not play DKCR so I cannot talk to its similarities or differences. I think the compare/contrast has come up before in this thread; surely someone has played both to give a better look at the venn diagram
-
it should be really neat to see how the qualifiers shake out.
I think you are correct - Team Tinker should be easy top of NA, NAR would be competitive for the wild card. SEA will be a good fight between MVP and Rave, and, yes, China and Euro are insane.
Did anyone submit their team for the 1024 open mega tournament? We joked about it my 5-stack friends, but wouldnt even be worth the embarrassment of getting lit up on the opening round.

I missed VP for alliance,
I thought with bulldog and ti3 win would mix it up and then make navi, VP and the rest make a good qualifier (navi is weak right now, but still crowd favorite)

Okay, now... What are the available Wii U games that i should consider? (Ignoring upcoming games like Xenoblade X, which i'm of course going to play, it's why it bought this thing.)
Bayonetta 2
Wonderful 101
Super Smash Bros for Wii U
Captain Toad
Hyrule Warriors, perhaps?
Wind Waker HD
Mario Kart 8
Pikmin 3
Zombi U, maybe?
Anybody want to dissuade me on some of those, help me narrow it down to the obvious choices, or recommend something i've missed? (I'm probably going to pick up Bayo 2 soon.)
to quickly clear the list -
MK8, SSMBU, WindWaker, Pikmin are much like their predecessors, so if you have no interest in a mario kart or SSMB of old - might not be up your alley. Toad is more (a lot more) of the commander toad missions inside the 3D World - so if again not feeling it, then maybe avoid.
Wonderful 101 has a demo online to try out first, ZombieU goes on sale actually fairly regularly <$10.
I may make some other recommendations -
See if you can find a demo or kiosk with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. it really is great and deserves all the praise it gets.

one of the last pictures taken of Moe. He was one of the most stubborn and wonderful cats ive ever known, he had bone cancer in his jaw so towards the end was losing lots of weight and couldnt eat hard food. Every night around 4am he'd get just close enough to my face to gently wake me up for a late night snack of tuna or ham

Rewards were tied to leveling your Compendium last year as well.
As for the tickets for TI 2015, there wasn't exactly a big-huge announcement of them being available.
The 2013 compendium had significantly less to unlock and had to complete all those team player cards to get all smeevils. I spent hours just in trading channels trying to get the last rare member of a team knocked out from qualifiers. After the super success of the compendium they did release the 4 or 5 immortals to everyone
Not that paying to unlock levels is any more satisfying, in 2014 at least every level was an item drop and with a high level compendium could accumulate more for the market to sell
Its something to note that last year the squawkins and pudge courier upgrades were tokens that were saleable. If its the same this year can get wyvren, armadillo, or enigma effect without dumping lots of money
Same with the immortal treasures, for less than $8 got all the items were missing from levels
We'll see how the market changes affect that as well

Its pretty painless once gets started. Its at least a passable attempt making their stuff compatible, but a reminder how far in the dark their online tech is.
Being said, Welcome to the club! Undermind9 is my tag, at least get some mii's to hang out in your square

Ive been in paris the last week and spent a day at the Louve, one of their massive museums around the city. It was an old palace so each space is segmented like quarters would have been rather than normal museum massive halls. Easy to get lost and overwhelmed
Any ways, they had a available audio and guided tours on 3ds xl's. I was able to creep over some shoulders and they were using one screen as a map to each of the several hundred rooms and the other to show text displays to special items in the room, start audio, or alternate photos.
It seemed was in several different languages and I was pleased and surprised by the wide range of people using them. I joked with my wife how many of the elderly folk were going to go home and play with their grand kid's 3ds after seeing how great they are
I'm not a huge museum goer, is this a normal occurrence?

I had a day trip to London so can I get a honorary pass to this thread?
Regardless, i have come to the following conclusions -
Weather sucks (although after 3 sun came out, so only partially true)
Traffic's worse
USD needs to figure its shit out
Otherwise gorgeous city and on our list to return for a longer stint. Hopefully one that would allow for out of city exploration

*disregard - I'm not good at things

Doh - hit enter to confirm my submission for a single box but ended up confirming my entire entry after only listing a country. I'm now living in Nunavut... if anyone has the ability to change this, I live in Vancouver, BC, wouldn't mind showing up there. Thanks!
All fixed

Blitz Trolling the Troll
Eventually they cant even steal intel anymore. The troll cant use ult at some points of the game and only gets maybe 1 whirling axes off per pool
-
Baby Park is that matters
The only other improvement is if you could hold a second item like the original Double-Dash map did for maximum chaos

i love the rebar handles with diamond grating. i presume he got it powder coated?, ive never had to get anything painted for high-temps before

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective appears to be entering the wild again! http://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/183130
I snapped one up, and I figured people here could be interested thanks to Idle Thumbs 180: Wars and Pieces.
PSA - back in stock again. Sold out in a few hours last time

NA Qualifiers - no spoilers, but Mouse VS Nar V2 - wow. Finals should be just as good
they had a ~2hr delay because MSS' internet crapped out then back and forth games. all three pretty good to watch
Game 3 - mouse falls in spectacular team fights at the end. Like Merlini was talking in the post game, winter wyvren & AM is strong, but they didnt need that combo in this line up. some bad items and poor timing i think sealed their fate. QoP looked off and Lotus Orb just hosed the Lion.
Very sad, Black and Qojqva are some of my favorite to watch play. The way Team Tinker turned into Mouse is strange enough, but moving to US for easier qualifier shows the team as a whole missing a piece.
Generally excited for the Euro part to get going, I think the strongest qualifiers are in the Euro region - see how they are playing and what comes out. May not even matter though, everyone is going to crash against the wall that is VG, EG, TS, and IG
