  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Pulled the the Wii-U trigger on a combination of offers at Target. still need to go back and get my mario kart price matched, but thats a weekend thing. but got everything up and running before midnight to cash in on free-game promo. i'vent much new to add to the discussion - except why is the ninendo club & nintendo ID a separate account? that is like gmail needing a separate sign-up from google-drive (or one of their other services) anyways, glad to have finally joined the cabal, love to join any idle-thumbs related mk8 tournaments id: undermind9
  2. DOTA 2

ugh, this is exactly like a game the night i had. our ursa tried to go in lvl 4...and with 2-3 hits left got RNG bashed and died. my dark seer & WD showed up to salvage and killed 2 more...but slow top response ended up with everyone walking in one at a time, with a 9 - 4 swing for the other team AND rosh never died. at that point nightstalker was out of control, they had map control and stuns, and we ended up losing at a 30k gold deficit. ursa 0-10, no rosh, bad morale
  3. Awful Day-Ruining Bugs

excellent! thank you, i will give these a test-run and see if it helps
  4. Awful Day-Ruining Bugs

this may be better suited under "complicated computer" thread...but my chrome with 8+ tabs has become a memory suck in the last week or so. i'll frequently open up every article i want to read from whatever sites i check everyday...and then play a dotes round or just walk away for a while - then i get back and my ram use is through the roof & dragging everything else down (like to the point that windows pop-ups up saying close things, out of memory) did i get a bad update, miss an update, no good at things?
  5. DOTA 2

had a random PA in my group yesterday that did his own concede - quelling bladed deep to the trees and sat around the last 10-15 minutes some bad team fights & the impending train of a naga siren really put the pressure to break a side or two...but couldnt clear a rax. then lumberjack took off and we didnt have a chance. obviously the team comp wasnt good, but still could have won if we had a leash/coordination with that PA. he was strange too - would save up ~3-4k gold and buy a full item out right rather than in parts (had all this money, thought was getting butterfly etc, buys bkb. gets another 3k...buys helm of dominator). the ultra passive abaddon build didnt help either (http://tinyurl.com/qz6ujkj)
  6. General Video Game Deals Thread

downloaded this last night and going to give a try - S.O. is out of town next few days so might be a long "try". or will devolve to dota like usual add me if anyone is interested, steam: undermind9
  7. DOTA 2

half sounds about right to me, but i only play public mm, usually with a 5-group (so the other team is no less than 2-pair or a 3-team). Additionally, there is a tendency even when sitting in the well one guy decides to go out and snipe a final kill or muck up the push by pulling the creeps to the fountain. I am normally of the mind to finish fast - but once someone pops out i dont mind putting an upgraded lich chain in there to bounce around. And what really grinds my gears - people who pause / fortify with 200 health on the throne.
  8. Non-video games

board games in general, but netrunner specifically - has been an uphill battle with my wife. She is in a similar position, finds the game as a whole fun, the card lore is interesting, and loves jinteki ambush deceit, but has no interest in deck building, figuring out the runner side, and cannot grasp "traces" I have found interesting party games to be better suited to getting her involved. something that she can learn the rules with a group, take less serious, and laugh at in general. I am going to pick up the werewolf game mentioned previously for the next group event, i think once she gets over the avatar/roles the quick hit traitor game will engage her and her friends (similar mindset)
  9. DOTA 2

i read that article yesterday and was not convinced from his point of view(not trying to rehash the surrender discussion, no surrender, end of disucssion) His whole argument is that he just doesnt like the time it takes from obviously losing to the other team taking high-ground. Or if they arent going to implement this surrender option then fix the meta to be long-game again. Anyone who has played for a while will attest to the frequency that the meta changes. The summer (and subsequently the current meta) is just a weird time since they hold off on major patches long before and until after TI. in conclusion, no surrender - wait for next patch
  10. Idle Food - Cooking!

i have a neighbor that smokes ribs and they are quite amazing. she uses an electric smoker and seems pretty effective. It kind of takes all the guess work out of charcoal heating & propane maintenance, ive never been able to cook them so tender indoors
  11. Photos of things

ive driven by Wilson Hall a few times & delivered some signs but never been inside. that looks fairly incredible and i agree with other comments, that grand canyon shot is great - captures the scale of the canyon very well
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

being the eldest of 3 boys we had our fair share of stupid projects/maneuvers while growing up...fortunately nothing burned down or any missing fingers. Part of this i attribute is planning - like when it explodes who has the hose, where do we run if the cops are called, etc Finding the Anarchist Cookbook on IRC was a major mile stone; including napalm (gasoline & Styrofoam), tennis ball bombs, etc. The worst i made was a full brick of blackcats wired up with speaker wire, gator clips, and a cut extension cord. Essentially blow the fuse and 25' away a whole brick explodes at once.
  13. Non-video games

i had never realized there was a con like this so close. i'd be interested in learning more about it, the website requires an account that i am not prepared to make just yet. perhaps next summer i can convince the wife i need a solo vacation to indy...shes not too keen on most table (or video) games
  14. DOTA 2

brood is tricky in that, if you cant gank often then she gets lots of money and surely will push to the tower. however w/o resetting up her webs difficult to rotate to other locations (unless like crazy farm, bkb orchid s&y etc) i think rotating top was the right idea, show up with dust and melts. but cannot ignore the 4 other players who will surely take a side while messing around with spiders w/o good lock down
  15. DOTA 2

I wonder if there is a policy in place or process to shutting down twitch chat for an event of that size. Mods shut it down during the short pause when the feed went down in an EG game, and then when it came back up was a cascade of "nazi mods" I just dont see the purpose of keeping it open when more than a 1-2k people watching (figuring only <10% even type to the window) First there is an inherent problem of scrolling when +/-150K people typing, emoji faces, or spamming "picnic" every time the stream stopped/stuttered Secondly, it is filled with essentially the worst you-tube comments in real time. The moment Kaci or Sheever came on the screen there was a cascade of gross, weird, and asinine comments. *i know, you can minimize the chat and forget it even exists...but for anyone casually coming by to see what this massive featured event on the home page was, the chat groupies didn't do any favors for showing the dota community in a less-toxic light Did anyone watch the games live with the in-game client? I only caught the evening games and didn't find there to be a lot of rude/gross people spamming the chat box
  16. Recently completed video games

finished Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on ps3. Played on "legend"/Hard...which was awful for the beginning until some of the weapons leveled up...at which point it would have been absurdly easy. Not the usual extra long adventure game that'll be found in the R&C universe...but still a pretty good time. It started as a $30 game, probably can be found for <$15 new, which was refreshing to get a shorter game at a sub-AAA game price. I still like Crack in Time the most, but this was a nice re-visit to a charming & positive world. Not necessarily an indicator of my enjoyment...but started immediately over on the "Challenge" mode which lets you get bolt multipliers to buy the Ω versions and unlock more features to the weapons. It is adding more challenge because when you get hit resets the multiplier...and some of these weapons are gonna cost some major currency I think i am more drawn to the feasibility of the platinum trophy on this one. It is going to be hard, take some time, but not ultra absurd (RE: VVVVVV no death finish)
  17. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

isaac makes me so happy. A reservation about Rebirth I have is to the room size - but seeing these interesting AoE combos it'll be fine (ring of brimstone )
  18. DOTA 2

generally anti-climatic finals. game 3 was over before the horn
  19. hyperlight drifter has been extremely quiet throughout the entire development though i backed it towards the end of its days because it was getting a lot of attention, looked neat (love those sweet gifs), and the lowest entry to get the game was fairly reasonable. Out of all the games I've backed they are one of the quietest, even the 1-man team Void Destroyer updates fairly regularly with more progress i have not been burned on anything yet, i got a refund when Death Inc. closed up shop which was very nice of them - could have taken the money and ran like some of the projects posted above. Although, now that i think about it "Pulse" is one i am skeptical about - http://tinyurl.com/oq66u95
  20. Thanks for the quick recap of dashcon! I saw it pop up on tech website headlines...but im not on the up and up of tumblr news nor did it strike me as interesting (especially that ball pit picture) quick notes - It was at the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg...which is one of the larger convention centers in the chicago suburbs, like 150k SQ FT - also a pretty slick hotel attached to it. The city is pronounced "sh AW m b er g" (or SHômberg) and fun fact, i designed and installed the lighting conversion from cold cathode to LED on the outdoor "embrace", a massive concrete ring about ~20' above grade that lights pathways, benches, ponds etc. i'd have go to go back to the project notes, but it was a couple thousand feet of LED
  21. didnt he also say pk thunder & pk freeze? i wonder if they were just over-narrating his different special attacks and that would not be actual in-game sound...Or it would only trigger every 3rd attack command. the screen is already a disco of noise and flashing colors - a limit on sound spamming would be nice
  22. Dota Today 13: On the Road to TI4

on a correction, many compendium immortals have gone up 5-25% in the last week.
  23. Dota Today 13: On the Road to TI4

dewar: great idea, i never thought to look for squawkins upgrade kits. i was going to kick in the remaining to boost my compendium level after the points settled... and as for immortals - they may go back up in a while, the ti3 immortals are generally up from last year - the pirate sword is double (10->20) and venge curve-thing is almost triple (5->15) but this year i think there is a much deeper saturation of the items. anyone who would pay more money for them would have to have joined dotes after this promo closes down
  24. Dota Today 13: On the Road to TI4

game 3 was bananas (he did amazing too) i minimized after the picks and next time checked in on the stream they were on the high ground making camp. titan couldnt push them out and then it was gg, pretty amazing. even better was DK's 2nd game yesterday. 11min group-up push to GG, that undying was wonderful
