  1. Life

its probably no consolation, but voter turnout was amazing - far better than any election in the free world ive ever heard of.
  2. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

not necessarily campy but Clive Barker's Undying is pretty great. The howlers make for a neat atmosphere and game is fairly difficult until you get some of the stronger weapons
  3. Recently completed video games

Finished The New Super Mario Bros (Wii u) with all star coins Thoroughly enjoyed the progressive difficulty, if I was 6-10yrs ands this was my first Mario it would be as difficult as Mario 3 was in my childhood The star coins adds even more especially since the star road levels were some of my favorite. Star-8 took better half of the afternoon I am going to go through Luigi-u next, after world 1 I can tell the floaty jump is going to be bad news
  4. Shaving My Thumbs

Some may find it relatable or informative...
  5. Shaving My Thumbs

yup, i use a beard trimmer w/o the attachment to do my neck and keep from getting unruly every few days. but im awful to get advice about shaving from. i havent been clean shaven in 4-5 yrs now (guard slipped, bye bye beard) and had to have been 2003 before that. i dont know if ive ever even used a razor...i always had one of those electric jobbers from my first mustache in grade 6 (borrowed fathers until needed it regularly)
  6. Recently in another thread someone proposed setting up a shared online calendar for organizing players to post their events or see what others are doing. After some tinkering it was determined this is strangely more difficult than it should be without requiring user accounts, sign ins, or manually sharing the event board with dozens of people. The following is my solution to the matter in a some-what elegant and easy to use online software - Submit your event with the following form https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form?EQBCT=6274398498504163bea4dc97a453101f It automatically populates a spreadsheet that is viewable in a calendar form here *Edited - 9/7 discussions enabled, when double clicked on an event can add comments/user notes to the bottom of the pop up window such as interest, additional information, or group info https://app.smartsheet.com/b/publish?EQBCT=d1df642424cf496d90fedeed1f4058e3 Using the comments section of the web form people can input details of the event (game mode, time-zone, req. players, etc). When viewing the calendar double clicking an event gives all of those details as input This is an initial solution and depending on feedback and use I can tweak some of the fields. The online software is always updating as well and if a feature is improved I will certainly implement to the work-flow.
  7. Idle Thumbs Multiplayer Calendar/Scheduler

in the case of extra long comments i would switch to the standard look. there is a tool bar bottom left that flies out & can switch to grid view. ive defaulted the view to calendar for the sake of its use doing more tinkering i can add another feature called "discussions" essentially add notes & comments to a row - like "im in!". ive swapped out the above link with the discussion enabled table
  8. Idle Thumbs Multiplayer Calendar/Scheduler

Certainly, I'll fix next time on desktop. For now I've manually switched your entry
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

posted to the mp networking forum. this was way more difficult than it should be. google docs was a pretty good solution, but even their stuff didnt totally mesh together which was mildly frustrating - but typical considering the almost-done nature of a lot of their products
  10. Wizaaaaaards!!

Driving today...then had to explain to the wife why taking a picture of a wizard van
  11. I Had A Random Thought...

found an awkwardly impossible left-handed hotkey combination today. FPS WASD'ing has helped with a lot of nasty combos..but this is silly corel x5 - ctrl + alt + h = flip horizontal
  12. Cartoons!

i watched the first 6 over the weekend and thought it was pretty good. probably do another few eps this weekend i thought that the opening sequence was/is great
  13. Welltris was a pretty deep cut. it was actually my first introduction to a Tetris game on our first 286, it wasnt until a demo cartridge containing the counter-norm Atari version of Tetris on the NES that i figured out it should be a top down game (officially named TETЯIS: The Soviet Mind Game) Welltris opening screen -
  14. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

**Edit - didn't work as planned Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

huzzah back sleepers, Greet the day! I do however find myself waking up on my side a lot, the cats like to sleep on my chest and this subsequently throws off my weight distribution on the air mattress & I wake up sore pretty much all over i never understood stomach sleepers - sore neck, sore back, drool. gross
  16. DOTA 2

isnt that -SC for super creeps or is -omg even bigger super mega creeps...
  17. DOTA 2

for AR/DM i would always go blink/dagon/power treads...Maybe an Aggs depending what has been used in the pool. Generally health/survivability items are always good, van/hood/blademail there were some other modes in dota1 that were pretty great -ID - item drop -MC - mega creeps (essentially ancients spawn and help push the lanes out) -aa,as,ai for all agi/str/int heroes -ro/mo for all melee / ranged and some neat modifiers like pooled items, fast respawn, rune changes, all same hero, and some zoom/far out camera stuff (gross) Also picking only from respective radiant/dire taverns - for dota2 people they used to have wc3 taverns to pick heros from. thats also why the hero selection grid is broken up not just by attribute class but also rad/dire alignment There was one added later I never played called Capture Point, this would be a pretty neat and obviously makes sense based on the map. Hold middle points between towers or in jungles etc. I would imagine they release this first as a holiday mode and then re-incorporate into the base game
  18. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

i played the demo (waiting for low price sale before buying) and thought it was pretty manageable - but the demo has the 3 weapons & gelatin block available from the onset a dash/doge "spring" would be super helpful on some of the bigger minions. my annoyance is trying to "draw" the move shape, i'd like it if the draw speed slowed down to better lasso objects/people
  19. Recently completed video games

i finished Legend of Zelda (NES) main quest...maybe for the first time ever on Wii Virtual Console. i got all the way to dungeon 9 based on childhood memories...but i suspect i quit it as a child because of a lost save or the nearly impossible to navigate maze of hidden passages & bombable walls. i dont remember actually drawing out that dungeon on paper so its possible that it was never complete. this time i just pulled up a google image to keep all the paths straight interestingly, my wife really hates this game as an observer. She finds the incredibly repetitive overworld & dungeon music grating, and finds it ugly as a whole. i have yet to experiment if the opinion holds on all pixel games or just the actual classic ones (NES vs NES-esque indies). anyways, if i do second quest i'll probably follow an overworld map for the secret hearts but do dungeons 1-8 w/o aide
  20. Weddings

pretty great. i am very glad to have that in my recently watched list **Edit - not to derail the whole wedding conversation, also in this guy's video list -
  21. Idle Food - Cooking!

    excellent use of rolos
  22. DOTA 2

oh boy... AR DM is a very strong personal favorite (just missing -ID aka Item Drop!), a-z challenge score sheet, i hope this taunt move isnt global griefing at the beginning of a game. i suspect that will be annoying and fuel the hostile/asshole players some more there has to be a big balance patch coming behind this, i hope they dont wait till halloween diretide for pitlord & something worth while. techies are swell, but not a major game changer...just get more wards/gem on a range. maybe more hoods because of the remote mine magic and land mines are composite
  23. Weddings

My only regret is a guy at my office (boss at the time) offered to do the service. It ended up being a fairly religious ceremony which is not in my core values at all. i should have known better that he was going to pull that shit, didnt end up giving the full written out speech until the morning of - which i red lined pretty hard. And then 6hrs later during the event i omitted some of the more blatant religious stuff from vows repeat-after-me portion As it turns out to get someone ordained it is 2 business days, oh well. the guy is now gone for other unethical business practices, good riddance. but congrats, and dont skimp on the photographer - sort of the only part that lasts (besides obviously your love for the bride yadda yadda)
  24. Weddings

i got married last march (2013) and had a great time. it went by too fast, but a year plus people still mention how nice of a time they had...which is a good indicator i think it was my wife's second so took a lot of the obligatory BS out of the ceremony and reception. we got married at the Morton Arboretum which is a glorified forest preserve outside of chicago (more trails...less creeps & family re-unions), had the reception 50' away, sundae bar, and according to the bartenders "Above Average" consumption. Also, paying for it entirely by ourselves took a lot of the BS out of obligatory invites; Dear aunt-whats-your-name - NOPE. did the whole thing in a collaborative google doc too, that was baffling to her ma and other tech-muggles
