  1. I Had A Random Thought...

i love driving. i wasnt very good at first (16-18) but after commuting to college for years and some love interests that required some distance driving i began to appreciate it. then when i got hired at my current job it required that i drive from chicago suburbs to the city proper sometimes twice a day and i really learned to enjoy it - even with traffic. Fortunately for the wear on my vehicle I don't drive as much now but still really enjoy going out on a drive and insist on driving when in a group of people i also really liked my car during the heavy driving years, since my wife laid some criteria - cheaper gas, better cost of maintenance, and 4 doors for rear seat access - bleh. might as well have gotten a lesabre again
  2. unfortunately my mobo still runs tri-channel ram (upgrades cant come soon enough) that is some stellar trouble shooting though. I've had bad sticks before and makes for serious aggravation
  3. weird, simple google finds Hot UK Deals Multimeter deals - nothing current but they do exist! ive got some tools from my recently deceased grandfather that i share between 2 brothers and stepfather. But they are mostly wood working & extremely specific - but am one step closer to re-tiling all my bathrooms on the 2nd level with a badass wet saw. He also kept, i suspect, every nail, washer, or nut ever used or pulled out of something. Dozen or so masonry jars of hardware, the nails are hammered straight-ish
  4. Keep an eye on harbor freights ads/clearance they sometimes put them up for free (now expired) just to get people in or with small purchase. A HF opened last year <2miles from me, been my favorite place to get tools from. Unfortunately i still need to go to a Home Depot or similar for bulk hardware and materials
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

i really like sour dough...but fortunately it seems like a massive pain to make at home my kitchen doesnt seem to get/stay warm enough for breads to rise, so we dont end up making any at home. The oven is also uneven & i suspect a little uncalibrated temperature. I'd love to have a big loaf of french or sour dough on the counter for soups & nibbles
  6. **and Sam beat me to the detailed schematic answer so my advice - lick your fingers and get in there! but seriously, if the lights are turning on - could it be as simple as the CMOS battery is dead? another tom's hardware link that is very useful - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems
  7. Life

my wife wants a tv in the bedroom and ive been extremely resistant. I suspect she'll use it to fall asleep to which is fine, but i think a terrible habit. Additionally i'd have to get a second cable box, wall mount, and probably re-route the cable since its on the "wrong" wall, Or get some fancy expensive remote HDMI for ~10ft Although, ive been keeping my Wii U next to the bed and playing on the gamepad...a larger screen would be nice. What is the general rule for size? 10" for every foot? maybe i can convince we need something monster in the downstairs (i'll play the "im old, eyes are going" card)
  8. Life

I was fairly allergic to cats when i moved in with my wife (swollen eyes, heavy congestion, generally itchy) But a regiment of clariten and vacuuming 3x a week kept it generally at bay till I developed tolerance over a few months. Didn't have much of a choice, she would have chose the cats over me if it didn't work out
  9. Meow.

and now the obligatory photos - inside spoilers to not super spam the thread already Lily - 13yr (the older cat in discussion) with her brother a few years back Maya - 3yr Tuxedo & Luna - 2yr - trouble And all three looking for trouble
  10. Meow.

to continue from the other thread - Life #11305 Fortunately the older cat is still pretty spry and doesnt have any issue walking around or the stairs. She is getting older, but still plays with the little ones some, holds her ground and will swat them away, and has no trouble jumping up the couch or bed. We have not yet talked to our vet, but wet food is next on the list of trials. Having three cats it is tricky to ensure one cat is eating a particular food - or enough at all. She is not losing weight and mood seems fine - so we'll just have to see. She had pancreatitis 2yrs which was a whole another issue - major mood change, weight loss. 3 days in the vet and a K or two later she turned out fine. There was no way my wife was going to put her down a few months after her brother had to be put down with mouth cancer. We have her tested now once a year - and was just in over the winter with no signs of relapse. But this is the end of my depressing cat talk. I love my three girls, they are spectacular companions. I am trying for 2 more, but i dont think i'll win that battle anytime soon.

finally, some cat talk Our 2 and 3 yr old cats like to chase each other around 4am. One is all white and the other is a tuxedo so depending on moon lighting there are interesting flashes of movement as they fly around the room. Our 13yr old has been having some digestion problems over the last few months. Ranging from full food pellets to a nice thick (smelly) paste - in addition to hairballs. We've tried a few different foods, next step is soft food, then idk. anyone with senior cats have similar issues? She is missing 2 front canine teeth...but that shouldnt affect it this much
  13. Is Social Media Eroding Our Humanity?

whoa there. no shit talking, just using it as a landmark example of something weird people stop at to take pictures in front of / go to - even if they arent into niche wisconsin cheeses. And exactly right about the glorified grocery, I imagine Woodmans up the road has a similar selection and more - but i digress
  14. Is Social Media Eroding Our Humanity?

I feel like that stupid BS has always existed in the world...but scale & awareness proportional to the news cycle & speed of which information travels. Pre-Internet people would stop and take photos of asinine landmarks that they heard about one time in a weird newspaper article or word of mouth. The landmarks arent important (like a national park, symbolic place, statue, etc) - but regionally people know about them and if they are on a family driving vacation they probably stopped For example - The "Mars Cheese Castle" a few miles north of the Wisconsin border - it has a massive sign, was a normal building with "castle shaped facade" (whereas there are tiny merlons), and they sell cheese, brats, and cheese hats. They have since moved into a brick castle ...and still sell the same stuff. Anyone in chicago or southern wisconsin and has traveled I-94 will at least know the name of the place...if not stopped. Its been around since the 40's and people learned about it from word of mouth, the massive sign, or stopped on sheer curiosity This gold van is a local landmark...but for a few days before it gets towed or someone traces the VIN number to the degenerate that left it there. The news about it traveled across the whole region in a matter of moments, taking photos are free, and people can instantly share with friends/online people who arent from this part of Arizona and have no way to take a picture with said van. That spurs me off to another random thought/question - isnt the part of the point to have a digital/analog photo gallery to show off what/where/who you'be been able to take a photo with? Of course there are some very sentimental photos or simply to mark a time with a group of people in the same place. But taking pictures of yourself in front of the Millennium Park Bean wouldnt remind you of anything except "hey remember that time we paid too much for parking and stood infront of a giant polished stainless steel legume". But if you're not from the area - you can show off that you could go to said place (and all the socio & economic requirements to achieve said event) Same thing with taking photos with a celebrity, at a sporting event, or even taking pictures of an exotic meal or something at an expensive restaurant. In conclusion, social media is stupid, it is eroding society, and we're all doomed. I think I will continue trend of not posting anything to FB, not tweeting, or taking photos of anything in my phone except for work or of my cats Photos of referenced places -
  15. Dune

Messiah is underwhelming. Children of Dune is my favorite. keep going!
  16. i installed the suggested free personal Unity 5 software last night and am interested in this endeavor. The install wizard is the extent experience with the software and programming. Although i would consider myself Advanced in Photoshop and extremely proficient in vector based software - so anyone can reach out to me with those questions the 30th -> 12th works for me as well, gives 2wks to start thinking up some ideas, forget them, and then start again

  20. I Had A Random Thought...

perhaps the duct tape heated in the sun & from the rocket flare thus making it easier to rip. and they way he was taped, he had full arm mobility, but wasnt he depressed from finding out he was just a toy and didnt care if he rocket popped it would have been pretty anticlimatic if the wings popped out and the duct tape slowly oozed up off of him leaving a thick residue
  21. Plug your shit

those look super great love those trees
  22. Perfect, i'll add these to my research list my wife uses Office Communicator at her place and finds it workable. thank you for recommendations!
  23. I am looking for an office messenger recommendation. We use a Microsoft Exchange server with machines ranging from XP & Office 2007 up to W7 and Office 2013 The goal is to reduce the amount of email banter/bs that goes around at work. A lot of my emails i receive are "please make XX file" and then I say "done" and i get of course the courtesy "thanks"...granted these are usually a KB each they now live on each person's mailbox on the chain and this exchange may happen a hundred times a day between our ~50 employees A policy change isn't going to work and we have some un-savvy individuals working around here Anyone have experience in a small/medium size office with Inter-Office Messenger apps. We have two offices, so yelling over top of cubes isn't an option So far I've found - Google Hangouts - but that would require i would think gmail or users made up Microsoft Communicator and a handful of online/web based ones thanks in advance
