  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Whilst I agree that rayman is rad, 100% of people in the 80's would say 'who's rayman?', before turning up David Bowie on their Jukebox and rollerblade away, as rayman was created in 95.
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

    His hair is totally rad.
  3. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

That's cool. You can just play as this adorable guy instead:
  4. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

It was boring even with other people playing it. Last time I played it with friends, I fell asleep whilst playing. Also I might be wrong, but you can't create blocks on the game pad and play a character on screen at the same time. If I remember correctly, you have to use a non-gamepad controller if you're playing MP. SP you can play using the gamepad, but can't create blocks I think? Unless that's been patched too, Griddlelol will still have a problem (assuming he has only one pro controller), unless his girlfriend doesn't mind being a glorified luma. Seriously this game sucks. Not as awful as Sonic: Lost Worlds, but it's definitely my second least favourite game I own on the WiiU.
  5. Frog Fractions 2: A Fractional Kickstarter Campaign

It's just a shame the ARG has hit a brick wall. That was super cool. There is a GBA rom that he made which is a static image of Rick Astley with a bit-tune rendition of 'Never Going to Give You Up'.

Oh, on top of that, NSMBU doesn't support the pro controller... It infuriated me that nintendo would release this hardware and yet not have their own games support it. I could imagine it's becuase the pro controller doesn't have sensors in it? Rayman though... rayman does support the pro controller.
  7. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Agreed. Also there's a demo on the eStore, so give the demo a shot before dismissing it NSMBU really didn't click with me. I liked the first one on the DS, but my god is it really dull. I really felt quite bored playing it. Also the jumping enemies to the time messed up my game mayn. How can I perfectly predict enemy placement when they fucking jig every now and then? grumble grumble.
  8. Other podcasts

Does anyone listen to Tell 'Em Steve-Dave? I started listening on a recommendation of a friend, and I really like it. For the majority, it isn't funny. It rarely makes me laugh to be honest, but the relaxed attitude and manner of speaking of Bry is really enjoyable, and quite different from the usual overly-happy and air of trying too hard that I've come to expect from people on the internet. Also Bry has had a super interesting and largely messed up life, and those stories about his past are super interesting, like how he got together with his girlfriend, Suzanne. I'm also a fan of Answer Me This. It's pretty ace. And one of the few british podcasts that are independant and quite amusing.
  9. Frog Fractions 2: A Fractional Kickstarter Campaign

    The best comment so far:
  10. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I can vouch for Cryptozoic Man. It's pretty ace and messed up. Probably the best thing there, but I haven't read the others, and I'm a TESD fan so I guess my opinion is heavily skewed? I had a glance at the others and they're either really fanservicey or they're like a crappy pun of another comic or something (like 'fluffy'). It kinda feels really cheap in a way. Also is this the best Dynamite Entertainment has to offer? It seems like a weak offering? I'm not well versed at all on their back catalogue, as I've only really started getting into comics over the last couple of months, thanks to the excellent humbe image comics bundle that was going a couple of months back. I also just noticed that you can get Vampirella vol 1 & 2, and then vol 4 for extra money... But where's volume 3? seems silly to me. :/
  11. Riichi Mahjong (not yourjong)

Does anyone here play Mahjong? I've been playing this game now for about a year or so, and I love it. When I was at uni, me and my friends would spend every Friday night sitting round a table playing Mahjong, and listening to jazz. These evenings have been the most memorable and enjoyable time I've had at uni. Even now I occasionally go down to Leeds for a weekend to play Mahjong. Last weekend was an example of this, and this happened: It was a glorious event, which won me the game. In the third round. For those who don't know, this hand is called '13 Orphans' and has a 1 in 23 billion chance of getting. So yeah. Anyone here play? Would anyone be interested in learning how to play? It doesn't seem popular at all in Europe. How about in the US? I remember watching a Modern Family episode and seeing a bunch of grannies play it. Which surprised me.
  12. Riichi Mahjong (not yourjong)

That looks like the Chinese version. It's simpler than the Japanese version. It's like rhummy is to poker I guess? To be honest, I don't know much about the Chinese version. I noticed that there's no dead wall, need to call riichi (although that could be because everyone's hand is open), and it looks like you can take any tile from the discard pile, whilst in Riichi mahjong you can only take the last one that was discarded. I know how it feels to be the slowest one there. Luckily I learned in an environment where they used the game as an excuse to shoot the shit. I also agree with SAM that people always get it confused with the solitaire version, which baffles me as to why it's so popular, as it's so darn boring. XD Is the site tenhou.net? It's great. but yeah, people are good. Too good for me :S
  13. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Nintendoland. There are some great coop minigames on there, such as the zelda one, which is so much fun. The wii+ controller is for one link who's got a sword, and the fella with the pad has a bow and arrow. simple tactics quickly emerge, and it's a lot of fun. Also the pikmin game is great on that too. Finally another pimp for rayman legends. The person on the game pad can play as the frog fella who helps out by tickling enemies and touching everything to get you more lums and stuff. There are also some sweet levels where the frog has to pull levers and the like for p2.
  14. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been really into a crazy new band the kid's aint listening to coz it ain't cool yet. But it's totes cool. From oxford apparantly. I really like this whole darn album. It sounds so good.
  15. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

y'know, there's a really easy way to get over this, which is simply to not play with the Mii's. Just sayin'. That Pullblox is wack. I played a couple of online ones, and they're super cool. Someone made a great Vulpix one. Also, I drove up to Leeds over the weekend with WiiU in hand and played Mario Kart 8 with my friends. They all hated is as there was no Map on the main screen. This was never an issue for me. What do you guys think? We did play loads of rayman legends though. The 8-bit demake race/song levels are so much fun. their reactions when we did the granny rock 8-bit remake was priceless. And my favourite level in the game. For those who haven't seen it:
  16. Nintendo 3DS

I never understood the attraction to Kingdom Hearts games. It seems like such a disgusting cash-cow crossover. On top of that you have to know 2 completely different franchises well enough to be able to understand the references. Granted Disney doesn't really need that so much as their franchise is already firmly ingrained in our minds. Final Fantasy though? Also, is the combat different from 2? Coz I watched my friend play that game and it looked dull. *grumble* *grumble*
  17. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

Well, Pac IS back, if the marketing campaign for 'Pac Man and the Ghostly Adventures' is anything to go by. Although he doesn't look like the spunky remake Pac that we will all know and love. I really hope an alt costume for Pac Man is this:
  18. anime

This perfectly explains Jojo. It's everything you've seen before, but has this bizarre (lul) twist to everything that makes it so fucking great. There's over the top, and then there's Jojo. And yet Jojo still manages to make you care about characters. Even the ones that are only in it for a fight and then dies. It's also totally refreshing to see people die in fighting manga. I feel that people now days are too scared to kill off characters, because it'll hurt the fanbase. Also did you know that there's a bunch of people who go out into parks and try to pull Jojo poses? apparantly there are levels of poses too. I'm pretty sure that some are definitely physically impossible, yet people still try. Some are pretty darn good though: I really hope that HxH addresses my worry. That'd be sweet. HxH is great for. I don't think it's that typical either. It's not about Gon being the best, like most other big shonen (*cough* Naruto, One Piece *cough*), but him just finding his Dad. I mean, he's not even fighting the big bad guy in this arc. He has only killed one of the 3 royal guards. I really love HxH. I like Nanana too. I'll watch more methinks. I was excited for this too, but then realised it was done by Gonzo, and I'm super weary about it. I also think it's just a retelling of the first game. So.... idk. It has that little kid in it, who surely can't be in any other Bayonetta related games after the first one, Right? It doesn't look like she'll be in 2. Or at least, she hasn't been mentioned.
  19. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

Maybe this is an American thing? I don't think we have something like this in the UK Out of the list of films that I watched from the list of films that they have, I think Jubilee is the weirdest one. Adam Ant as a fairy speaking rhyme in front of the Queen Victoria, and then transported to an apocalyptic London where a group of women rape a guy and killed him was weird y'all. And it also had like the 80's neon vibe too. I don't even know if I could recommend it to anyone. It's weirdly British like the Boosh, and I wouldn't even recommend it to a British film aficionado. I have had Frozen sitting on my ps3 for months now, and we haven't had the will to watch it. I highly doubt I'll have the will to watch a Criterion movie every month/week either. So count me out. I'd like to know what films you choose though.
  20. anime

I just watched the first episode of Nanana, coz of Twig's statement that it's better than both Ping Pong AND Jojo? Madness. For the first 10 minuets I was worried. Same stupid light novel tropes. Then he spent 2 hours doing a shit and it got a lot better. I guess I'll keep watching. This also made me laugh: Also the new Hunter x Hunter was amazing. I have a worry though.
  21. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

Conan saying the Villager is creepy made me laugh. That fucker is evil. Also in relation to pacman:
  22. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what the heckins is The Criterion Film Collection? When I first heard the thumbs mention it I thought some people had made a Burnout movie.
  23. General Video Game Deals Thread

As far as fighting sticks are concerned, I would advise you to go with a Hori stick. I can't vouch for Mad Catz, but Hori sticks are where it's at. I got my Hori stick as a present, and I love it. It's great for fighting games and Bullet Hell games, and the controller's super responsive. Looking into fighting sticks can get crazy technical, but it basically boils down to the number of face buttons (Mine has 6 and I'm OK with that, I think 8 is a tad excessive) and the cut out shape for the stick, which can come in either a diamond shape or square shape. Which one to choose depends on what games you want to play with it. Diamond is better for Tekken apparently, whilst square cut outs are better for 2D fighters like BlazBlue/Guilty Gear. Apparantly. I guess the best cut out would be an octagon, but I believe Nintendo still owns patent rights on that. :/
  24. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

O_O When was this? Is it on youtube?
  25. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Sorry, I meant a new special attack. It's more powerful than the one in the first game. I think. Or it's been reimagined? I can't remember, but I do remember them saying it'll use the pad. Whether it will also support the pro pad, i don't know. I assume the first bayonetta game will, which comes with it. I didn't use the motion sensor coz I don't like any movement whilst playing games XD How is it?
