  1. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I'm kinda in two minds about IV breeding. On one hand, I think that the complexity and RND of creating the perfect pokebaby points to the creators wanting to make more exciting and interesting battles. IV training kinda feels like people have broken the game in that regards in order to breed the best pokemon. On the other hand, it could be looked at that the fan's love, time and dedication to this game means that they have worked out how to create the best poke-spouse. Of course I know that the perfect IV pokemon doesn't guarantee the best stats, as there are loads of other systems going on with leveling, but it's a leg up. The same complaint could be leveled towards Speed Runners as well, but I feel that it's different because even though there's super competitive scene when it comes to speed runners, it's not as PvP as pokemon is. Idk. I'm awaiting Tegan to destroy my argument now.
  2. anime

Oh, I don't know if that's so true...
  3. Anyone Remember?

Does anyone remember where the whole "Dishonoured xxx day" comes from? It's an injoke that I didn't either get or understand? I know there's an episode titled 'Dishonoured Thanks Giving' but I think that's after the joke has been established?
  4. You mention it in passing, just before you go into detail about what the game is at around the 1:00:00 mark. You then go on to explain how it isn't like Spelunky XD I think that the War Drum is probably the most useful item in the game, but I am just not good enough to prove it.
  5. I agree with Chris that Crypt of the Necrodancer is not like Spelunky. I feel it's more like Binding of Isaac. I also fucking hate them dragons. It's so annoying to spawn and have one in my face, because I know I can't defeat it. and then inevitably die. I don't hate the perma-items though. They kept me playing past a point where I would have given up. Also there aren't that many items. I have now emptied the magic store, and getting there in the weapons store. I don't know, I find it a good incentive to keep playing. Now I'm getting my ass kicked on world 4. Ho hum.
  6. I was expecting someone to crack an idlethumbs.blade joke in the opening ad. Good cast so far!
  7. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

That was a weird video for come back home. I'm not quite sure what was going on. They were like making drugs? In a room with dangling motherboards? and then they... burnt a party of white suits? what? but it's OK because they saved the world? YES. Although this for me is the weirdest music video I've seen (although it is J-pop and not K-pop): It's like Lady GaGa fuelled on sugar and Japan.
  8. The Fanart Collective

So I've been excited to post this for a while now, as my missus made them. We plan to sell this at an upcoming con. The idea being that the poster as is is like £10ish , or you can swap the villager and mayor to your own choice for an extra £3, or £5 for both, and it'll be sent to you after the con. What do you think? good idea? Here's the pic (with my favorite villager Ankha and stock mayor): And my missus' mayor and her favorite villager, Mashall: Sorry for the slight color hue change too. Thoughts?
  9. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

    "of" all time.
  10. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Man I love Cyriak. He produces some really messed up stuff, although this is by far my favourite, if not for the youtube description alone: Description for your annoyance: This is another internet favourite of mine. Sorry if you've already watched it:
  11. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

What?!?!? You obviously need one of these bad boys:
  12. The Fanart Collective

As soon as I posted that, I knew you'd prove me wrong Tegan. Now I feel like a pokenoob.
  13. The Fanart Collective

My first thought was 'There's never been a female professor in the pokemon games' until I remembered Mother Brain is a lady. Fatastic!
  14. anime

I'm hoping that they won't. I'm pretty doubtful that they will, but you never know. Their latest films have been complete flops, but when re-releases of Totoro still manages to hold the top spot in sales, I doubt they're going anywhere fast. I think the main worry is that it looks like the studio hasn't gotten any plans to do a film after the next one. Which I'm guessing is just a lull or something? Maybe I'm being overly hopeful.
  15. Recently completed video games

I'm hard pressed to find a complaint about the game to be honest. I read that some people didn't like that there wasn't enough memory mixing stuff. Which I guess is a fair point, but I'd prefer that there was less remixes that has more purpose rather than a bunch more inconsequential remixes that are less enjoyable. Even the fighting was ok. The different enemy types kept the combat fresh, and although some were really annoying, it was cool. Also it looks amazing. and it's cool? Did I mention the cool part?

Sadly all Layton games have been ruined for my thanks to this series of flash animations:

I finished Remember Me. It's pretty ace. I figured out bits of the story before the game did, but not by a huge degree. It was a really enjoyable ride, and I'll forgive the more difficult fights to me trying to be pr0 haxx0r and playing on hard. At the end, I found that the best strategy was to only use the 5 and 8 combos, and use only health attacks in the 5 slot, and all cooldown decreasers in the 8 combo slots. The game was also just the right length (clocking in at 11 odd hours for me) and told a story well. I recommend to people! I also finished OlliOlli and by that I mean I did all the levels. stupidly good game. Addictive as all hell. I think I'll go back and complete the pro levels soon.

1/n Kylies does not pick up all her dry cleaning. I feel sorry for a Kylie. This is the British version of that: I was actually going to post something completely different, which was OK GO's new video, which is flippin sweet. I'm constantly amazed that they can think up crazy new things to do.
  19. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I feel the same way about this when people bash bronies. I have no interest in it, but I think it's the same thing. As for joke analysis, Jimmy Carr has written a really interesting book going into why jokes are funny. I guess it's worth reading if you're into that? Also Twig's new avatar is great. One Punch Man is the best. To derail this train of conversation completely, at work I've been playing Pokemon Link Battle in my lunch breaks. Multiple different work colleagues have peered over my shoulder whilst playing and all said 'oh so it's like Candy Crush with pokemon?' What the hell?! Has Popcap's efforts just been completely forgotten? Has Candy Crush entered the general zeitgeist in such a way that nobody can see a match three game and not think of Candy Crush? I mean it's not even a good game, as far as match three games go. Also PLB is nothing like candy crush. It's more like Bejeweled meets Puzzle & Dragon (Which is another point of ire, as Puzzle & Dragon infuriatingly isn't out on android, and the stupid company who owns the rights for the game in Europe (supercell) is just refusing to release it for god knows why. Instead I'm playing the closest thing I think is to it, which is Pacman Monsters. At least I think, because I've never played Puzzle and Dragon! Ugh.)
  20. The Fanart Collective

Lol Not at all! I love the jojo one too much. One more before bed - turns out it's digimons 15th birthday today. Awesome bit of art from my favorite Web comic guy, tyson Hesse:
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

I have no interest in the Marvel/DC universe, so for me the rest of the universe is like bit-parts to Deadpool. This probably makes me the worst. I do admit that when deadpool fails it fails pretty badly. I really liked the Deadpool Killogy though. Not because it was funny, but because it was dark and serious in a way I wasn't expecting. I didn't laugh at all reading them, just enjoyed a well-told story.
  22. Unreal Tournament (The new one)

I remember seeing their first super beta footage aaaages ago of them playing a super basic instagib game and i was excited. This excites me more. Although no ripper gun seen. WHY NOT HAVE THE BEST GUN EPIC? YOU NUTCASE. I'm also curious as to their business strategy to this game, as it's free to play. My guess is that they're hoping that a huge dedicated modding scene will come like the first ones, and they'll have to pay for the engine with the monthly fee? Or are they going to run a mod store or something and take a cut from that?
