Idle Thumbs 195: Business Guys On Planes
N1njaSquirrel replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
when nick talks about the GTA Ghost, I think it's about Jolene Cranley-Evans. The more commonly known rumor is the presence of a Big foot in San Andreas, something that is mentioned in GTA V -
Someone face swapped disney characters and it's hilarious: The rest are here: http://imgur.com/gallery/ANAWz

I don't know about that, from my recollection, the crafting part is much easier on the Xbox than it is the PC, as you don't have to know the ordering of stuff on a work bench. But then again if the kid's playing it on an iPad, that might not be a big issue.

I think what might be the best choice is to ask your child. Whilst I would personally advise towards the Wii U as a die hard Nintendo fanboy, I feel that maybe this console isn't for you, but for your kid instead. It could be that he/she already has eyes on a gaming console, or that some other kids at school have console x so they want the same console too.

I've started and about half way through a Dark Souls Level 1 run. Basically you don't level up. At all. To make it harder, I decided to become a level 1 dark wraith, which means defeating one of the last bosses half way through the game. I became one and then stopped, and haven't picked it back up since. The main change to the game was how I viewed souls. I no longer cared about them, as my only use for them was to upgrade armour and weapons, which meant that I cared less about dieing, which I felt was a good thing to not get angry over. Likewise my weapon choices diminished quite quickly, giving me the options of club + shield or a duel-wielded zweihandler. To me the club felt like the better choice of the two. Having a fixed health + stamina, my first prerogative was to get some buffs on those, so as soon as I got to Lodran I rushed to Ash Lake (using the theif's keys) to pick up the cloranthy ring (increased stam recharge rate) + dragon's covenant (to get the sweet fire breath), and then to kill Lautrec as quickly as possible to get the ring of favour and protection to increase my stats. After that it felt very monster-huner esq, focusing on upgrading armour and swapping out armour to get the best defence, whilst keeping under half weight so I don't lose my roll. I think the last time I went on, I was on my way to seath, with a +10 lightning club and a +10 fire club. Luckily most enemies in dark souls have a weakness to fire. It's certainly a lot of fun, and is a great challenge to a game I've completed multiple times already.

Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita
N1njaSquirrel replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
They put Binding of Isaac up for free, and that was on the day it came out. I was hoping for the same thing, but I guess you're all right I couldn't buy Grim on the PS4 last night though. I'll try again tonight I guess. Mercenary Kings? This month had Infamous: First light which was pretty excellent. -

Nope! I'm also waiting for the PS4 version! (I still think it's going to be the free PS+ game for February) -
Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically

The New 3DS Majora's Mask special edition Pre-order is back on in the UK Nintendo store, but it won't ship till late march. http://store.nintendo.co.uk/new-nintendo-3ds-xl-console/new-nintendo-3ds-xl-majoras-mask-3d-edition/11075490.html?utm_medium=The+Legend+of+Zelda+UK&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=%2Fnew-nintendo-3ds-xl-console%2Fnew-nintendo-3ds-xl-majoras-mask-3d-edition%2F11075490.html -
It's impossible to potentially pick up every item in a single run. This is because of how the item algorithm works. It seems that there is a pre-defined finite item pool when a run starts, and when you hit the bottom of that item pool, you just get breakfasts. The best way to show this is to constantly use D4. Eventually you'll get no items, instead just changing every item to HP up, as using a D4 counts as diminishing your item pool. This is the lamest thing to occur, as it happened to me in the chest, so I lost all my powers and just was a normal isaac with 10 health. Rubbish! Currently I'm trying to do the suicide king run, it's a fucking ball ache. Edit: After reading this whole discussion, it seems that Ninety-Three doesn't like that you have to learn? The game is designed and themed around exploring the unknown. Putting up warning lights before an item will remove any sense of exploration. This game is also designed around repeat runs and learning from them. Knowledge is power, and upon picking up an item that you don't like, you'll learn that that is not an item you want, should you run across it next time. Dieing in Isaac is not a hindrance. If I did walk through a blue door, and I died, I would say 'oh that's what that door does', and next time I run across that door, I could have the Dead Cat, and see what was in the room. It might not be worth it, but a room which kills me for entering must have some sweet loot right? It seems that your main complaint is part of the core design of the game, which is fine. Don't play it if you don't enjoy it. And if you want to know what every item does before picking it up, use this, but it ruins the fun of the game.

Idle Thumbs 194: A Grave Ghost

I didn't think it froze, but I did think that time slowed down whilst you were in a temple. -
My favourite bit was when Tim put Gareth's jigsaw piece in jelly.

I've taken holiday leave that just happened to collide with the launch date of Dark Souls 2, but never called in sick. It was a happy coincidence. What I hate than just how it perpetuates the myth that 'gamers' take sick leave off to play games, is that the selection of games that you can choose from is the fucking worst. Fifa? Assassin's Creed? CoD? What the hell, it just shows that there's no good noticeable exclusive title on there.

Holy shit, Microsoft's new advertising campaign is the worst thing they've done in a long time. Just what the fuck is this? http://xboxsicknote.com/ The worst.

Sweet! I'm usually up at silly times over weekends, so shoot away! PSN ID is actually N1nja_Squirrel, I double checked. Damn I think I'm pretty hooked on this game. My previous problems were all sorted out thanks to the beauty that is the hand cannons. Now I want an exotic/legendary one. I also got the DLC over the weekend, I tried it, and got my ass routinely handed to me. I've also reached the level cap. What should I do now? Strikes and stuff? The end game is so poorly explained.

Because it hasn't been mentioned, Dark Souls is in my opinion a perfect game, as well as the best game ever made. It's impossible to point at one thing that makes this game standout, because there is just so much that makes it brilliant. You are a lone wanderer in a hostile, dieing world that doesn't want you there. And they make sure that you know that. You'll die a hundered times, and keep coming back, just so you can make that bit of progress, creep around that dark wall, and find redemption or another horrible thing to want to maul your face off. But ultimately, it's a game that's made me feel excited and got adrenaline pumping like no other game has done before. Killing bosses in that game gave me a rush like I never had done before, and even after completing it numerous times, I still think back to the haunting land of lodrum, of it's intertwining passages and hidden secrets, of it's hidden story and lore that's so tucked away and obscure that it's tales are re-told and argued over on forums and subreddits like camp fire stories. I'm sure there's someone better out there who can sing it's praises better than me.

All Tarot Cards have a fixed ability. The Emporer Card warps you to the boss of that floor, that's the card you picked up. The only other warp cards are the fool, which warps you to the first room of the level, the moon, which warps you to the secret room, the stars, which warps you to the item room (or closest equivalent if there's no item room), and the hermit, which warps you to the store. You can get a pretty good indication of what the card does by holding back on the controller (or holding tab), whereby you can see the flavour text of the card, and it's pretty clear as to what it does.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
N1njaSquirrel replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
If it helps, you're really fucking close to getting to Trevor. You have about 3 missions or less before you unlock him, depending on your heist choice. Personally I thought the writing in some scenes were exceptional, my highlight so far is when Trevor and Michel meet up. That was great. Then the preceding mission afterwards made little sense. Also going to the shrink is particularly enjoyable. I have yet to finish GTA V yet though. -
 I usually play in the evening. Next time I see you online I'll pop you a message I was tempted by the DLC too. Is it worth getting if you haven't completed the main story? I'm only like level 10. I really love the combat, which I really wasn't expecting at all, especially as Halo's combat didn't do anything for me. Even though it's a thinly veiled MMO, and I hate how headshots doesn't guarantee an insta-kill, I'm still really enjoying this game. I've heard that the main focus end-game is the crucible, which really doesn't appeal to me, as I generally don't like PvP, so I'm expecting to probably drop this as soon as I've finished the main story line.

Oh man I love Shirobako! It's definitely one of my favourite anime of this/last season. I noticed Anno's cameo, but I didn't know about his somewhat eccentric personal life though. My favourite thing about this anime is how it feels like the stories are all real anecdotes from the industry. There are also a lot of other cameo's: Pretty sweet show. Also googling that showed me this: Which I think is pretty interesting. Being an animator sucks, but this is also reflected in the show, as some people clearly have worse living conditions than others.

I've just gotten into Destiny, it's pretty good fun! Griddle, I'll happily do a strike or w/e with you if you're up for that.

there were motion controls in the wii one? I thought it used just the d pad and 1 & 2. I plan on getting the wii one, as I heard the 3DS one was a shoddy import. :/

Out of interest, does the head-tracking 3D still work in a dark room?

What! There's only room for one N1nja Squirrel in this forum! (I kid, welcome aboard) My PSN ID is N1nja_Squirrel. I'm pretty sure. Edit: it is

Oh yes, the controller is so much better than the ps3 one. It feels a lot more solid, and the way the prongs are more rounded makes it fit nicer in your palm too. Also the way the controller flashes red/blue when chased by the cops in GTA V is a really nice touch. GTA V is great on the PS4. I guess the WiiU kinda spoiled me for out-of the box cool things. I still use my gamepad as a TV remote, which is still my favourite thing the WiiU does. I also don't have a netflix account, so I only use it for gaming, and the occasional blu-ray. I played First Light as it was a PS+ game this month, and really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun, the story wasn't too long and the world was just the right size. I want to pick up second son as soon as I get money. I haven't put my PSN on the share thread! I shall do it now! Surprisingly it's N1nja_Squirrel (I think, I'll double check when I get home XD)
