  1. New people: Read this, say hi.

Welcome! I am happy to have another Grim Dawn enthusiast btw
  2. Diablo III BattleTags

Adventure Mode is the bee's knees
  3. New people: Read this, say hi.

If this were Diablo III I would have to hunt you down before you could get to your rift, but as this is the loot-free zone: welcome!
  4. I Can't Go For That (Game Series)

Personal taste in all of this but I "bounced off" TL2 and Van Helsing both pretty hard, whereas I really like Diablo III and Grim Dawn. YMMV but I feel like for these loot games there is some magical "vibe" that is important (since the stories are kind of all garbage) and I at least haven't found a way to measure it besides just playing these games.
  5. Quitter's Club: Don't be afraid to quit the book

I recall liking that book but if you had such a bad initial experience it's hard to think you will be able to get back in. I am probably an outlier but while I like Vonnegut quite a bit, I also sense this sort of babyish-douchey thing you are describing. Radiohead and Flight of the Conchords to me are also that way a little ... Like unjustifiably smug, maybe? Anywho either you can look past it or you can't, I like all of the things I just listed but meanwhile can't get past it in Zoe Deschanel. So those are my tastes and feelings, presented as facts.
  6. This shit is complicated. Reading through the last couple pages of this thread, I recalled recently stumbling across True Detective without having heard if it and watching the first five minutes mostly because if how much I liked the opening music and credits. True Detective without predisposition reminded me of Carnivale, which I enjoyed for similar reasons: its moodiness, its color palette, its "slouching towards Bethlehem" / Ray Bradbury vibe. And then, it became "that show" and then I became even if only in my own mind "that guy." It reminds me a little of how since I am a white guy I am reluctant to talk about how I like Macklemore. I love some of the things our culture produces artistically but I really think the way we are processing these works of art is somehow broken when we are all conscious of these weird framing dynamics. So I guess what I am trying to convey is that White Walls is appealing to me despite the line "smack her booty with my paw / tryin' to fuck 'em all" and its problematic treatment of women as sex objects and not people.
  7. Diablo III

I definitely had fun Clan chatting with some of ye this weekend! A few of us even played together! I have played a ton of D3 between 360 and PC and I have to say ... The changes that show up in Adventure Mode really confuse me at least after a couple hours. I have a lot of new mats that just do not do anything at least at level 62.
  8. Diablo III

I really like positive reinforcement in games, even if it is largely meaningless. It's why I used to Prestige back when I played Call of Duty. I view RPG levels in a similar light, not just diablo. A buff of less than 1% to things (most post-20 RPG levels) is not really an actual thing, but I love clicking around and filling bars and so on.

Where are you located? If it's North America and you didn't get an invite please try again, we haven't intentionally said no to anyone and several of us were just online
  10. ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

Yeah you were only mentioned by name, NBD
  11. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hahahahaha. I am not sure why but this makes me laugh heartily.
  12. Diablo III BattleTags

See people? That's how you recruit!
  13. One of my favorite casts in awhile! Love JR Mintz. Wish I had more interesting stuff to say except I was really suspicious when Steam highlighted Goat Escape 2 or whatever the other day. I seemed to me like maybe they were trying to trick people who heard "some cool goat game is coming out!" (Goat Simulator buzz) into an inadvertent purchase.
  14. Discworld

Thanks I will try Guards! Guards! after I finish my current sci fi trash in a couple days
  15. Discworld

No I haven't but I am interested in trying another one, any recommendations? Maybe I'm just a weirdo but up through the point I got (maybe 1/3 of the way) it just didn't grab me
  16. Free to play: The Movie

i finished this movie and this is how I felt about it. Even low budget films like King of Chinatown were more interesting to me.
  17. Shadowrun Kickstarter

Finished, phew! I failed the final fight a couple times by quasi misunderstanding what I was supposed to do. The end section in general I actually found pretty tough and had to reload after making strategic mistakes (picking fights I didn't have to, etc). In general I was pretty happy with this game and story. The writing seemed strong throughout and the gameplay pretty sound / fair. That said I made some bad choices that had consequences which I regretted, so I am glad to be done with it. I can't tell how long it actually was but I would think it took me almost 15 hours?
  18. Diablo III

Yes there is a clan and community for the US, they should pop up in the search
  19. Diablo III BattleTags

I may bother you Dinosaurs, my witch doctor is in her early 30s i think
  20. Diablo III BattleTags

If anyone else wants to own the US clan or be an officer just let me know. The only reason I am not promoting people is because I only recognized like one of the names on there as being from the board (who I promoted) and I am trying to avoid that thing where I promote some griefer and then they kick us all out. I literally did that twice to my old crew back in the Halo clan days and still feel a little bad about it!
  21. Discworld

So I read the first few of these but couldn't get into Mort. I loved the one with the female wizard though.
  22. Diablo III

Lady Gaga didn't even make it all the way through Act I yet but I am still excited for the DLC coming out tomorrow for some reason!
  23. Reading about Games

This is pretty good advice for life, I would say. Similarly, I have a friend who constantly harms his professional and personal relationships by not letting any inaccurate statement from anyone, in any context, pass by without a challenge. Add in that he argues in a way that rubs almost everyone the wrong way and it winds up as an actual impediment to his enjoyment of life. Sorry to be so far off topic here but this is meant to be an oblique suggestion that maybe some of these recent threads could benefit from a higher dose of consideration and a willingness to walk away from some elements of a conversation if they either turn nasty or seem headed that way. Maybe I am off base but I see these forums as a place to engage in interesting discussion, not intellectually fence.
  24. Free to play: The Movie

As someone who doesn't play Dota I found this movie pretty boring and turned it off after 25 minutes, and I go out of my way to watch most Video game movies. To me what usually makes them charming is that they are made by people who love games and that shines through. To me this was just flat and I wasn't expecting that, it came across like the guys in marketing were trying to summarize what the other people tell them is cool about Dota or something. I will probably try to watch the rest at some point, though, just for the sake of completionism.
  25. Recently completed video games

    Nah don't apologize, well said.
