  1. Ok, I am not sure if I will able to articule this, sorry if sound strange or unclear, but... Rob moment of doubt during the discussion could it be because : the trick thing is, the reasons why people play games and why people make them can very different and even if you say this or that game reflect this or that, that still not explain very well why (and how) people play and why (again how) they made it. Take a MMO, you might say they reflect some capitalist aspect or something else, but the reasons why people play them, might have nothing to do with it - since you could have people which roleplay, other which play for fun, some which just play to chat with friends, other because it a good type of game to play when listening to a podcast (that would be me), a few because they like the IP, other because graphics/gameplay and so on. Sengoku Basara (a Dynasty Warriors style of game, made by Capcom), which again could be seen as a reflect of certain aspect, but lot of people play simple because they love the over the top and ultra wacky humor, in fact, this game is really popular with woman in Japan, from what I heard, among the reasons is simple because some of them really like the characters and voices actors.
  2. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

There is a few ones on nexus, such as Morrowind Rebirth, but right now I am only using one which overhauls the graphics (I can´t remember the name right now, but is one the top file on nexus) a few other mods nothing big (like my oblivion or skyrim with their 245 mods + plus compilations).
  3. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

The more play the more I got in the right mindset for Morrowind and enjoying more everytime - I kind bounce it the first time, maybe because I was bit busy or something else, but no this time. Got of agree a lot! Funny thing is that in Daggerfall the only time you are maybe expected to use normal travel was to find some of the Witch Covens, a few of them where close to a town or city. Thanks for the tips!
  4. Episode 337: 2015 Wrap-up

I just remembered one thing that happened in this year: Might and Magic Heroes VII which was kind a huge disaster that no one talked about (wondering how much the game come and go with very little noise). I dodged that by close, because I had to choose between this and Samurai Warriors 4 - II and I did end I pick up SW 4 II. This make me wonder the future of the franchise, will Ubisoft put some weight, like it happened with Heroes V, which at some point became good with Tribes of the East, or the whole thing became a short mess like happened with VI? I am more convinced than ever that maybe they should give the Heroes franchise a rest and instead try again with the rpg part of Might and Magic...
  5. Episode 337: 2015 Wrap-up

Great show! Got the agree with the cast on Attila, also much like it was said, CA appear to found its way or model for their dlc, as the Empire of Sand is as really good and much like it was said, a game changer and the Charlemagne campaign, which I wasn´t really expecting much, have been surprising me at most every turn - like the way it handle war and peace moments and the decisions, which work and where good (at first I wasn´t expecting a event chain for Carloman´s death, I keep playing and expecting at best a war, but them - bang! a chain of events with branching options). However I was surprised you guys did said anything on Beyond Earth, I guess that could be a let down on 2015 (maybe followed by Act of War). Cities Skylines is a great game, even if after some point, there is much to do, still is gorgeous enough, that just expand your city still worth, specially with the expansion, where I found myself - ok, how I design this place to look amazing at night? Next year, if the releases keep on date, beside the titles mentioned, we would also have - Disgaea for PC, Master of Orion, Endless Legend 2 and Oriental Empires.
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I am trying to play again Morrowind.... I had first played Daggerfall, but I skipped to Oblivion and Skyrim, since Morrowind wasn´t distribuited in Brazil on the time of launch, so I could only pick it up with Steam. But the your character moves so slow (and keep in mind, even in running speed you still go very slow), that I find myself in this strange conflict, part of me want to explore the world, but the other hand part of my refuse to do it, because of how slow moving is and the risk of wasting a good time for nothing (like one time I by accident find a wraith in a tomb and got killed). I don´t mean the character should move at light speed, but only slight faster because right now I feel like this is almost counter intuitive to the exploration. Right now I got a quest to find some thiefs inside a salt mine and the perspective of going very slow inside isn´t encouraging. But despite this and the vague quests, I am enjoying it a lot.
  7. 2015's Games of the Year?

This year I had a very strong push toward jrpgs and VN, while I bounce back from some wrpgs (Pillars, Divinitity), which a few year ago I would not even think twice... while I allways liked jrpgs, I felt that this push much begin when I played Final Fantasy XIII. Mine list would be: Nobunaga´s Ambition Tales of Zestiria Final Fantasy Type 0 HD Notch - Innocent Sinner: Eclipsed Luna Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky The Witcher 3 Total War Attila Guilty Gear Xrd - SIGN - Higurashi when they Cry - Ch 1 and 2 Final Fantasy XIII Not one the list, because they are my GOTY of 2013-2015: Europa Universalis IV Crusader Kings II
  8. General Video Game Deals Thread

I think I saw Might & Magic Heroes VII discount, but now is at normal price... So far I have picked up Pike & Shot and Fault Milestone chapter 2, maybe I will pick even more VNs....but not much more, because of the several releases this next year, at best maybe Vermintide or Shadow of Mordor or maybe Eisenwald. I just wish Koei put the dlcs for Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors on sale...
  9. Danielle and Rob stories was amazing! However I do also felt a bit sad because I can´t remember a single moment worth sharing, it was strange when I noticed. The closest thing was we I got Daggerfall: I asked my father for game for Christmas and after begin in doubt for a while, I decided on Blood & Magic (AD&D RTS game), but I noticed the shop (which was in another state in Brazil) also had Daggerfall, which I only knew because of an ad from a american magazine which somehow my father had (I guess he bought in a shop which had it for sale here for some reason). However, the shop by mistake sended to us both games - Blood & Magic and Daggerfall, we quickly warned the shop that they send something extra, but they offered to my father just to pay just a discount price for Daggerfall, instead of the whole mess of we sending it back via mail (for both parties, which where in different states). We decided to accept the offer and I finnaly opened the box and feel in love with the game, I still to this day keep the box, manual, cd and other stuff which was inside. p.s: Blood & Magic was a terrible game.
  10. Idle Thumbs 242: A Simple Goat

DF, despite begin intimidating, is a great game - I remember once, early on, that one of my dwarves enter in a tantrum and after invading someone else workshop to craft some strange item he decided to attack people around. Once he finnaly down, I didn´t exact how bury or remove his corpse and everybody was complaning about the miasma, so I had to wall around the place he died closing that workshop forever.
  11. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Watched the movie yeasteday, it is very good.
  12. I will only add that some muslim kingdoms also offer a good starting point in CK2 - they where more richer and the sucession law is much simpler do deal. Now I just wonder, the music which Nick heard is from the Song of Yuletide dlc? I didn´t know it was funny song, so I never download this mod. Which reminds me that EU IV now has a Sabaton music dlc...I am not a big fan of heavy metal, but is kind cool hear a music with lyrics somewhat match the theme of the game, this is one reason why I love Metal Gear Revengence, the songs which play during the bosses, all have lyrics based on the bosses you face, which make the fights amazing and very anime.
  13. Episode 334: Comebacks

Great show! I do wonder how the lack of comeback reinforce the mindset of "I am going to lose anyway and there is nothing I could do about" that often lead to rage quit of people avoinding playing (we kind see this when people talk about RTS, because there you often can spot the "I wish I could play, but I would lose anyway...", in fact even more in cases of RTs where people might play in "suboptimal way" but still a "fun" for them way, only to be crushed (in both ways). During the show you guys mention that a shorter time could be used when comeback mechanics aren´t avaliable, and I was reminded of something: Long time ago, when I played WoW (this was if I do remember right, before Wrath of the Lich King), I often had very bad or annoying matchs in the battleground (pvp), back there the match last around 30 minutes, the problem is that you often you know from the very start if your side was doomed, as long the other side had some twink character (character with much better gear that their current level. In my case, since I was playing with the Horde, I was often plagued by the vision of twink gnome rougues with two dagger, sometimes several of them) - which mean that you can only hope you side lose fast, however what happened most is that your side was too skilled to lose fast but to unskilled to win... and the whole thing last those 30 minutes while your team just whine and point fingers.... because of this (and the fact that during that period, I didn´t have much time to play) I started to avoid battlegrounds. Now, on the Warhammer MMO, the time of the kind battle was much shorter (15 minutes) and due the way leveling work, there wasn´t (at least during the time I played) much twinks around. The result was that the battle where fast enought that even if you lose, wasn´t such big deal, so you even feel like trying again. Another thing I remembered: Heroes of Might and Magic often suffer from the lack of comeback, due how heavily it relies on numbers, once one side got a advantage, there isn´t much you could do unless you can out produce him in number of units which is unlikely, so you can play a long map only to have to give it up, if the oponent have superior numbers.
  14. Idle Weekend December 11, 2015: TGIF, Finally

Great debut! I think one of the real tricks the Witcher 3 does have in advantage is the use of contrast, where instead of things just begin bleak, dark, detailess, colorless and gritty, there is a lot of detail, color and flavor, and this mean that both the darker and brighter side strength each other.
  15. Things to look forward to?

Well this just show up on the Steam database - It is the Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 https://steamdb.info/app/363150/subs/ And also, below you can find a trailer, however the release date have been chanced to 2016: http://gematsu.com/2015/09/romance-three-kingdoms-13-debut-trailer-english-localization-announced-asia Talking about Koei, there appear to be more Nobunaga´s Ambition on the way: However I don´t get if this is a expansion or a new game. Anyway, it will be based on the Campaign of Osaka and specially in the Sanada Maru TV drama. Also it will be more focused in take the role of military commander. http://gematsu.com/2015/12/nobunagas-ambition-sphere-influence-sengoku-risshiden-announced
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

Well, here is some stuff which is on my wishlist which I am thinking on picking up. I might not buy many things in this sales, given that there is the Dragon Quest Heroes and Lightining Returns coming up soon. Medieval Total War 1 (-75%) World End Economica Episode 2 (-50%) Grandia II (-50%) The Devil on G-String (-30%) (Note there is a version without voices and version with voices). Distant World Universe (-50%) Ame no Marginal - Rain Marginal (-50%) Sound of Drop - fall into poison (-50%) fault milestone two side: above (-30%) Mordenheim City of the Damned (-33%) And then I have the sudden realization that most of it are Visual Novels XD. Mordenheim is one which I am very curious, but I kind haven´t found enough info around (specially I would like to know how customization works, if there is any) anyone would recommend? Anyway, here some stuff which I would recomend: Endless Legend (-66%) Wargame Franchise (-75%) Amnesia Memories (-90% ! !) this one is Otome game not the horror game, I do have it but didn´t had time to play it, and maybe for some people is interessing to support to see if they bring more titles. Higurashi When they Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi (-25%) Valkyria Chronicles (-75%) The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky (-50%) Nobunaga´s Ambition (-34%) Age of Wonders III (-75%) Notch - The Innocent Luna: Eclipsed SinnerS (-33%) One Way Heroics (-75% the expansion is -33%) Hatoful Boyfriend (-75%) Ok, below is not a recommendation, but just some useful info - because there is three versions of this game on steam right now: Disciples III - Renaissance : This is the original version of the game, which is the one I have (but is the gamesgate version) and it is really bad. Of the original factions of Disciples franchise it only have the Empire, Demons and Elves. Disciples III - Ressurection: Now things got confusing, this is I think is a expansion (might be a standalone, how knows, the page does not explain this) that add the Undead Hordes and do some revision on the game. Disciples III - Reincarnation: This is a newer version, which features the original and plus the expansion and a major revision of the game, somehow it does have positive ratings and I am almost temped by it, but I am not sure.... The people behind the game closed door a long time ago, so no more patchs or expansions (and so no Dwarves).
  17. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I do used to check metacritc not because the scores but just because it was a quick way to check several reviews of the same game. I do think that several games which I enjoy or like are mostly like stay in the 70% below (or slight higher) on metacritic such FF type 0 HD, FF XIII, Elminage Gothic, Dynasty Warriors (and Samurai Warriors) but maybe for differente reasons, such few outlets doing a review of it per exemple. But anyway, I don´t mind this scores at all - even on steam, where player reviews are more dynamic (FFXIII start at very low but rised up to positive) some games such Attila, which have mixed reviews is one of the Total Wars which I liked a lot.
  18. Recently completed video games

Record of Agarest Wars - 128 hours.... talk about something that appear that it will never end... anyway, despite much like the tv tropes say, know for other reasons, it´s a rather large game with 34 characters split in 5 generations, which does have it own share of highlights but kind feel too large (you almost can see then running out of ideas), lots and lots of systems that often can be confusing (I mostly like never used many of the esoteric arts, because I missed a book early on), the fact that the characters keep talking about armies, strategy ect.. but you never really see any of this. The most strange thing to say is that the dlc actually helps a lot since reduce grind (I never did do any) and many boss battle where reduced to let your SP grown enough (by simple let you character take hits and even be killed) so you can unleash the extra skills (and hope to kill them in one blow, because much like you, bosses and other enemy also gain sp from damage and losing companions, so if you didn´t do enought damage to kill them you mostly like be killed in the next turn by their extra skill). By the way, Agarest War Zero not only let you use save data from Agaresy Wars, but does have a "digest" version of the first game (with fixed choices and only key battles).
  19. anime

Since you guys are commenting on Harem, it did remind anime I watched sometime go - Ai Yori Aoshi, which is nothing spectacular or anything (I could make a list of minor things which annoyed me), but kind had this interessing twist, where the protagonist (Kaoru, which unlike other protagonist from the period and genre already was at the university and had a job) find the girl he was looking for (Aoi) very early one and the history shift more to the whole group felt as a family and how they know sometime they will need to split it up, sure you still had the elements of the harem, but the tone was more of resignation and acceptence (from the other people around) and the chapters where Kaoru spend time with the other girls where more to focus and develop them. Also to keep in the theme, Dance with Devils was a nice surprice, I watched it knowing very little (only later I saw that it was from the same people behind Diabolik Loves) and I was catch by surprise by the musical parts. Now I do wonder if I should give Diabolik Lovers a second chance, I didn´t liked the first episodes of the first season.
  20. anime

Heard a lot about Your Lie in April and do plan to watch it. I am still not sure which direction Aquarion Logos is trying to go - but I keep watching since a part of me also hope this to turn in Evol or Genesis at some point... still the episodes aren´t bad, in fact some of them where quite good (for character development) and I am curious of what will happen, is just the don´t have much to do so far with Evol or Genesis. While the did one episode with a Gattai (union) with 3 people (big point in previous series), they returned the 2 people gattai. Meanwhile, Cinderella Girls second season is really good, so much few episodes managed to make me like more the rest of the cast which is getting a much deserved developement and this along with the whole plot of the girls and the producer dealing with Mishima and her new direction for the 364 Productions, provide a interesting conflict and we do see the girls supporting each other a lot.
  21. I feel like the idea of factions not having fixed personalities but instead adopting one along the way wasn´t that bad - it could have worked if there was more weight in the theme and the steps toward this or that affinity begin more drastic, because in the current form I felt (from the demo and what I could hear and read about), the result is exactly what the podcast pointed, that factions end having no personality because they have to fit in the potential affinities which can be quite bland.
  22. Winter Wizard Jam Team Building Thread

I am interested at joining a team or help in some way: What I could do or know: Art - Characters (Manga style), Backgrounds. Ren´py and Tyrano Builder Visual Novel engines. 3D model (3d studio which I know more and a bit of Maya, which I know way less). Contact: PM (here) Timezone: UTC - 3 (Brazil).
  23. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I don´t notice anything different, so far every game I waited for card drops take at least the 2 hour rule to start, however the time that will take until all card drop change a lot, Mugen Souls for me take 6 hours, Neptunia take 8 hours both had 4 card for initial drop and need 8 to make the badge.
  24. Episode 328: King of Dragon Pass

King of Dragon Pass is amazing game - I too agree a lot with how the game does manage to convey that you need a different mind set to play it and the Hero Quest remind me of the saying "the ritual keep the myth alive" (no sure if I am saying this right). I do feel that overall the randomness aspect o KODP does work fine, because thing appear to happen in context which make sense, sure you still might got funny results like trying to raid someone clan and find out that they did the same to you at the very same time. However, during the Hero Quest part I feel this show some issues, mostly due the lack of feedback due the fact that know the right answer isn´t enough sometimes, it depend on the character abilities, but you might not know that and get stuck failling in Hero Quest, even knowing the right answer because the guy you send fail in a hidden test somewhere.
  25. BattleZone (1998), Sacrifice, & other hybrids

Also the first game was a RTS released for pc, which some maps where more light rpg/heavy combat with heroes. Another game with a curious mix, was Rise and Fall Civilizations at War, on of the last game done by Stainless Stell (also they did the Empire Earth series) which also had Rick Goodman as the main designer. it was a bit of RTS (with the Empire Earth zoom levels) and a bit o Dynasty Warriors gameplay (during short times you could take control of a hero). However I did find the demo to be huge letdown, while the rts part was ok and DW part missed almost everything that would make a good DW style of game.
