  1. My random thought of the day... There are a LOT of Pokemon. Like... I knew it was in the hundreds, nearing 1,000... but it never hit until now just how many that really is.

(This thought is a product of me finally trying to fill out my Pokedex... 81 hours dumped into Y, with a National Pokedex of 256... seems like a lot written down, but looking at the actual entries its just a little drop in the bucket...)

  2. I've finally had the chance to play a couple of hours of this. I find it enjoyable, even though I barely know what I'm doing (just like if I was a King in real life, I guess...)

It's amazing how every 5 or 10 minutes of play I end up with another neat little story about my empire, and how each choice has consequences that I don't necessarily see right away. Its a very fascinating game.

...does anyone know of any guides to make learning how to play a bit easier? I feel like I've got the most basic of basics down, but beyond that it's like I'm floating in a sea of possibilities but I don't know how to swim to any of them.

  3. I hate that I love those things.

Hear me out. I'm not some crazy apocalypse prepper. But I love seeing what is sold to those people. I love hearing about things like that "Survival Seed Vault". I love hearing about why these gizmos and gadgets will supposedly help me survive. "Why do I need Modifilan Pure Brown Seaweed Extract?", "What is in a bottle of Survival Shield?" It's all fascinating to me, looking at and reading and hearing about all these... well, toys, I guess, in a sense.

Super Male Vitality - only the most important thing you will ever need in a survival situation.

  4. Behold, Mocha Cola!

It's pop, with a coffee type of flavoring... in reality it just tastes like someone tried to brew coffee by pouring Pepsi in the coffee machine instead of water. It had a little bit of fizz left, but not a lot, and I dont remember checking for a date on the can, so its possible mine was old and possibly flat? (I also got it at a dollar store, on sale. So maybe the one I had wasn't at the height of Mocha Cola quality...)

  5. I would've enjoyed doing that, as I gagged at every sip I took. God who would voluntarily drink beer. Fucking gross.

Random thought: beer is fucking gross.

Random thought: Beer is delicious and you don't know what you're talking about.

(But in all seriousness, its something that really grew on me. When I first tried it I couldn't stand it, but from various parties where it was the only beverage available or peer pressures I drank it more often, and now I actually enjoy drinking it. Plus there's such a variety!)

  6. A true hermit, a man separated from the human contact for 27-years, a man who expected to die without ever speaking to another person.  That man...played Pokémon occasionally because he stole a Gameboy.  Somehow that single fact is the most surreal part of this story to me.

Edit: Crap, I actually meant to put this in the random thought thread.  Oh well, I'll just leave it here.

Wow, that was an amazing read. Amazing to hear how about how he lived... and kind of sad, in a way.

  7. Just finished reading Doctor Sleep by Stephen King.

I thought it was good. I enjoyed reading it. But... as the sequel to The Shining, I don't think it holds up that well. It feels very different from The Shining, and at some points I felt that making it a sequel that shares the same main character, it felt like it was just an excuse for the protagonist to have psychic powers.

  8. So in about 3 days I marathoned my way through Death Note, after discovering it was on Netflix.

I had started reading the manga a couple of years ago, but stopped when I got really busy with school. I didn't go back because I couldn't remember where I had left off, so I just left it, until a few days ago.

    I really enjoyed it.

I wasn't as fond of the stuff that happened after L's death, until the very end, when it felt like the slow burn of the 2nd half was finally paying off.

Also, I heard about a lot of hate for Near from fans, but he really grew on me over the course of the series.

  9. Okay, as promised, my stew!

  10. Maybe it was just that I had just reached an age where I appreciated that sort of thing when it came out, but Disney's Tarzan movie just seemed amazingly well animated to me. I think it was the first time an animated movie impressed me simply by the way it looked.

...of course it was also the first movie I had ever seen in a movie theatre, so that may have had something to do with it as well.

  11. Did some grocery shopping today, decided tonight is beef stew night. Photos will follow.

(I'm also really excited because I got some fresh baked pumperknickel that tastes absolutely delicious and it was like a dollar cheaper than a regular loaf of bread and I just can't wait to have it with the stew...)

  12. I am done with pants.

Put them on - oops, inside out. Take them off, turn them right side out, put them on again... backwards. Take them off, turn them around, pull them up, still backwards! Take them off again, turn them around again, pull them up, get one leg in, trip and fall flat on the floor. Ouch. Get up, try again, notice that somehow it got twisted and one leg is inside out and the other isnt. Fuck. Take them off again, un-inside-out the one leg, try again, somehow put both legs in one leg hole. Give up.

  13. "The police have GUNS! We're not going in there! Fuck it!"

(In a slightly more serious and yet not any less cynical response, I think it's probably closer to "These police are trained professionals and going in would undermine the entire justice system in the area so we shouldn't step in.")

  14. "Do you crave authority but fear accountability? Do you want to force your social and political views on everyone else with the threat (or use) of violence?"

"...then join the Police Force! We don't care."

(Sorry, it's just that halfway through it started sounding like one of those late-night TV ads for, like... ITT Tech or DeVry or something.)
