  1. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    If it doesn't come with a red-and-white bucket, I don't want it.
  2. I feel a bit out of the loop, there was a Penny Arcade Kickstarter? What happened?
  3. Idle Food - Cooking!

...one time I had almost no food in the house and didn't feel like going out to get something, so I ate a whole bag of shredded cheese. It wasn't terrible. Based on that experience... I would eat those.
  4. Nintendo 3DS

I got a code from a friend. Megaman is best character. End of story. But seriously, the game feels great, and I definitely want to get it. I like playing as Megaman, but I couldn't really get into playing as the Villager. (Also, fair note: There is only one stage available, Battlefield, and the only characters available are Mario, Link, Pikachu, Megaman and Villager. And no online multiplayer in the demo, only local. And no special modes or anything, just plain 2 minute timed battles. )
  5. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

My first thought was of the merchant guy in Resident Evil 4... You could add in some kind of shop inventory management from various weapon drops hidden in the levels... "What are you buyin? ...oh, sorry, I dont have any of those... oops."

"...why do you have my son's face tattooed on your stomach?" "...uh..."
  7. That's the nickname I gave to my Yveltal in Pokemon Y.
  8. Shaving My Thumbs

I've never liked shaving. It's always uncomfortable, sometimes straight up painful, and there's a good chance there will be blood.(This of course has lead to a personal policy of never letting a razor go near anything other than my face...) I've tried several different types of razors, including different electric ones, and while I will admit the electric were much quicker if I was just keeping my shaved face in line, they never felt like they got a nice clean shave, and some models felt like they were just pulling hairs out. This all lead to me growing out a big thick beard through high school and college, and eventually shaving it off when looking for work in an attempt to look more presentable. ...I miss my beard.
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I'm finally going to be a real Idle Thumbs fan! (Just got a copy of Far Cry 2. ...also got LA Noire, Street Fighter IV, and Mario Kart 7.)
  10. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Bioshock 2 was fun, but I didn't find it to be a necessary game, and it really didn't add much... I played through it because it was the only FPS I had on my 360 for a long time, so I went through it. But it didn't stick out to me the way Bioshock 1 or Infinite did... (Although one of my favorite gaming moments came from Bioshock 2, when I got quite drunk on Jaegermeister and played the online multiplayer mode while talking with my roommate while he played some other game on the other TV... it was a good time.)
  11. Who here likes video games?

Video games are for nerds. It's all about computer games.
  12. After his reaction to Oculus Rift being purchased by Facebook, I can't see him taking too kindly to the idea of Microsoft buying Mojang... But, on the other hand, I thought Notch wasn't heavily involved in Mojang anymore? Or was it just that he's not much involved in Minecraft anymore?
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

I think it depends a lot on the device... I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace II X... its a little bit craptacular. It suffers from some serious slowdown with almost any apps. (Also, whatever the hell "SharkDash" is, it stops working within five minutes of turning my phone on every time...) On occasion I've had it shutdown and reset when someone sent me a message on Facebook because that would open the Facebook Messenger app and my phone couldn't handle it because I was doing something else on it at the same time... I still use my 4 year old iPod Touch for everything except phone calls because it doesn't slow down or crash at all. So I'd say do a little research on the different models (And don't go for the Galaxy Ace II-X.)

I hear complaints like this a lot. Maybe its a sign that someone should start a business for sitting at your house waiting for your package when you can't be there. ...probably need to have waivers to sign to prevent lawsuits if something is wrong with the package, of course. Obviously would need some sort of official uniform so people don't think they're about to be scammed by some nobody claiming to wait for the package...
  15. Recently completed video games

Well, I just finished Risen 2: Dark Waters. I really enjoyed it, and scratched a certain piratey itch I've had for the past few months. Plus, for what amounts to an action-RPG, it didn't seem too long to me, as many are, clocking in at around 26 hours for me to complete. It started off slow... really slow. I think I spent more time on the first 3 islands than the entire rest of the game. You start off feeling very underpowered, even for the beginning of a game. It takes a long time before I felt comfortable enough to move forward in the game simply because I really didn't feel ready for any combat encounters at first. (By the end of the Sword Coast area I felt like I was actually a capable and competent person, but that was about 10 or 12 hours in...) Once I had trained a little and gotten a bit stronger, I found the combat to be quite decent. I liked having the off-hand weapons be a bit slower than your main weapon, with a cooldown period, lending a bit of strategy to when you should fire off your pistol/sand/coconut/whatever. The one thing I really have to say though, is... there are times where this really feels like part of an MMO. Maybe its the controls, maybe its the quick action bar along the bottom making it look a little like WoW, I don't know. But if someone said to me, "Yeah, Risen 2, that was supposed to be an MMO when we started but we had to cut back so we switched over to a single player game and salvaged as much as we could", I would be like, "Yeah, feels like it."
  16. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

...though I'm trying to think of a good episode that really showcases where things went wrong, I find the biggest problem is that I just can't remember a lot of those episodes because they just weren't worth remembering. I promise to come back to this thread when I have a decent answer. (Also, personally I find that the latest few seasons have seen a noticeable increase in quality, though still nowhere near the height of their quality.)
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

I just realized I get Steven Wright and Will Wright confused all the time. So every once in a while I'll see a funny quote attributed to Steven Wright and think, "Wow, the guy who made all those Sim games sure is funny! I didn't know he was a comedian, too!"
  18. Life

Nah, the original version of Pope is pronounced closer to "poppy", because they were all opiate dealers. (Source: I am making stuff up because I can.)
  19. Cartoons!

I watched the entire season of Bojack in a couple of days. I liked the first half, but I guess I just wasn't ready for it to get so... I dunno, serious, near the end. It's not a bad show by any means, but I wonder if I would have appreciated it more watching it like a traditional TV show instead of binging on it all at once. I think a bit of a gap between episodes may have made the transition feel a little better to me. (Also, Vincent Adultman is just the best thing I think I've ever seen in a cartoon.)

I think Charles Martinet has finally lost his mind. http://instagram.com/p/sAyxGBHpT1/ https://vine.co/v/ML2nP5611zF https://vine.co/v/MLO3tBVeqMU https://vine.co/v/MLZjer5vLHw

I like sleep, but I don't like sleeping... If I could get, like... a drink that made me feel like I got a full night's sleep, I would down those all the time and sell my mattress.
  22. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Didn't bother recording, but today was the... third, I think, time I've ever made it to the Jungle. I am pleased with my Daily run today.
  23. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think I'm finally giving up on Final Fantasy XIII. It's dull. The combat doesn't engage me (I might as well not be doing it at all!) I can't really grind to make upcoming battles easier, because it caps off how far you can advance your characters in each chapter. Granted, exp carries over when you unlock the next sort of level of levelling up, but then that just means half the battles in the next chapter are completely useless. Also, the Eidolon battles are the bane of my existence - they're like a regular battle, except instead of killing the enemy, there's a little bar that fills up when you do certain actions. The actions that fill the bar are different depending on the Eidolon you're fighting, and the only way I've found to pass these battles is to find a guide telling me what I should do and when. Once the bar is filled up, you press a button and poof! You capture the Eidolon. Plus, for a Final Fantasy game, I really don't like the characters. (Except Sazh, he's pretty cool.) I honestly cannot give half a shit about whether or not they live or die. Also, I'm like 10 hours in and it's still blasting me with tutorials on how to do stuff. Holy flipping fuck why is the tutorial extended out this long? I'm usually a pretty patient person when it comes to in-game tutorials. I don't really mind things like "Press B to Jump!" popping up on the first level, it doesn't bother me that much. But 10 hours in and its still showing me new stuff? I'm getting kind of sick of it. I just don't think I have the time or patience to continue this game, especially when I don't care about what happens at the end.
  24. So there was that silver 360 controller with the D-Pad you could rotate that would raise up the actualy cardinal direction parts from the rest of the D-Pad construct. I remember at the time thinking it sounded like it would help with DPad problems. As far as I know it absolutely did not. Anyone have any experience with that thing? Was it just as bad as the regular 360 controllers?
  25. I Had A Random Thought...

I went to FanExpo yesterday. It was a lot of fun! But I realized something... Conventions make me feel like a creep. It's like... "Oh hey look its Jessica Nigri, she's kinda-sorta-famous-ish for looking good while barely wearing clothes... better look at something else... oh hey its someone dressed as Mileena from Mortal Kombat! ...that is a lot of bare skin... look at something else... Poison Ivy! That's some very skin-tight green fabric... okay, look elsewhere... oh thank god someone dressed like Batman! ...standing next to a half-dressed Harley Quinn, dammit." I dunno, it just makes me feel weird... like, on the one hand, some of these people have put real effort into what they've done, and its fairly impressive. But on the other hand, a part of me knows the biggest reason I'm paying that much attention is the, uh, generous display... but on the other other hand, in at least some cases, theres probably an amount of attention seeking (but thats a moot point anyways because there's no way to tell who that applies to and who it doesn't). I think about how I could never imagine going to something like that dressed with that much skin showing, and how they probably get hit on by odd people all day... and then I wonder if I'm any better than that standing off to the side looking at them. Sometimes I end up just wanting to be like, "Hi there! Your costume is great, and you look really good in it, sorry if I come off as a bit of a creep about it." But you cant just walk up and say that, that seems like it would be even worse! Of course maybe I'm thinking way too hard about this or worrying way too much about this. I don't know, I haven't had much sleep the past few days.
