Last night I finished Dead Space. There were a couple of parts I really didn't like (operating a turret to blast asteroids while waiting for the automatic systems to come online, while using controls so awful it was almost impossible to do...) but otherwise it was a pretty fun game. My biggest complaint were the controls (to be fair, I was playing on PC using my 360 controller... except during the turret sections where I needed to use my mouse and crank up the sensitivity as far as it would go...) By the end of the game I was used to it though, so it wasn't terrible, it just didn't feel right at first. Now, in all fairness, I played the game on Easy, so there wasn't much hoarding of ammunition or deep inventory management in my run. I never felt like I was in any real danger of running out of supplies. But thats good because those are the types of things that frustrate me while playing games.

Today I had chinese food for dinner with my sister. At the end of dinner, as always, there was the usual fortune cookie. My fortune? "A lovely individual is waiting for you." That was when I realized its been almost a week since I left my apartment building. That lovely individual's gonna be waiting a while, I guess.

First off: Subbes - awesome tat. It looks really really good. So I've started keeping a journal. I went out and bought a little notebook, and I've started writing about my day, every day. One page per day is my goal, which can be difficult at times because I lead a pretty boring life. I'm also using it to keep track of all the jobs I'm applying for. I think it will be helpful to at least be able to look back and see everywhere I've applied to in a simple, convenient place. I'm also making sure I'm applying to at least two places per day. It may not seem like much, but I really need to make sure I'm being consistent. Otherwise I end up not doing anything for a few days and then realize that I haven't done anything for most of a week and I feel like a worthless sack of crap. So I figure keeping track of it will help out a lot.

Last night I dreamt I was following a sandwich floating down a hallway. That's all. The entire dream was me chasing a sandwich. Guess I was hungry when I went to sleep.

Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
Ucantalas replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Died on 1-3 today. Not bad for me, not great overall. Although in 1-2 I did manage to steal the idol and kill the shopkeeper, so I feel it was worth it. I'm fairly proud that I survived an angry shopkeeper calling me a terrorist. -
...half a cherry pie later, asserting my individuality and dominance to people online that I have never met seems like an increasingly terrible idea.

I hardly need a day to allow me to eat pie. ...I'm going to go eat pie, not because you told me to, but because I am a free man who can eat what I want.

Mr.MuppetMan (aka tobacco), you do some great work. Haven't seen anything weird yet, but if I do I'll let you know.

...that's a pretty big "if".

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
Ucantalas replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
Wow, they really dragged out a story about someone taking a $1 bag of chips. -
I read the entire thing. Fascinating what can happen to a community all experiencing the exact same thing.

Wow, I'm sorry about that subbes. Like the others here have said, make your time together count.

"Hello, I'm Agent Johnson with the Wikipedia Copyright Team, I'm here to take that portrait of you. Yes, we can't prove it's not copyright infringement, we had to remove it from the website and our policies state we must remove it from reality as well."

Damn spikes. Died on 1-1 today. -
...that was tough to read because I identify with more of those quotes than I would care to admit.

My first foray into board game design was as part of a college class. Somewhere I still have the game itself, and in my emails I believe I still have a copy of the rules. Looking back, it was convoluted and weird and just didn't seem to play all that well. As for tabletop RPGs, I love the idea of them, I love reading the rulebooks and stuff, and I would like to work on designing one, but I feel that I really haven't played enough tabletop RPGs to get a sense of what works well and what doesn't.

Who are Your Favorite Video Game Reviewers/Critics?
Ucantalas replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Honestly, I don't really read or watch (serious) reviews of new games. The closest I come to that is listening to Idle Thumbs. My gaming choices are influenced either by them or by my friends. ...although I quite like watching the sort of comedic "reviewers" on YouTube... probably most famously done by James Rolfe (the "Angry Video Game Nerd" or AVGN), I also watch people like JonTron, PeanutButterGamer, The Completionist, Continue, ProJared, Spoony, etc. I'm really there more for any humor and ridiculousness that may ensue more than actually trying to pay attention to what they're saying about the games. In addition, most spend their time making videos about older games that I am probably never going to play. -
