  1. Licensed Novel of Games

I read the first 4 Halo books when they were coming out. They were actually pretty decent SciFi books that were made slightly more accessible by having characters, locations and objects you might recognize from the Halo games. These were actually good books that expanded upon stuff not included (as far as I know) in the main games themselves. I really enjoyed reading them. I also read Assassin's Creed: Renaissance. It's based off of Assassin's Creed 2, and does not include any of the present-future Animus baloney. It is basically just a retelling of Ezio's story in AC2. While that might sound good at face value, it wasn't written very well. In addition it was sometimes confusing. Entire months would be skipped between two paragraphs. I get that you can do that in the game with fancy white grid wishy-washy Animus voodoo, but it doesn't work like that in a book. The action parts were really boring, and the entire thing felt very rushed. Also, my final complaint about the book is incredibly petty... In the game, the poison makes the enemies sort of lose their minds and attack other guards. In the book, it just kills them quietly. There is one thing about the book that annoyed me at first but turned out alright, and that was that some pieces of the dialogue are changed in the book. Most notably, in my opinion, was Ezio's uncle Mario not once saying "Its-a me, Mario" (which I understand, given the stupidity of the line). But this eventually morphed into a bit of a fan theory that the book is the official version of Ezio's adventures, and discrepancies between the book and game are because of the Animus and that maybe Desmond's mind is sort of changing things slightly... so in the game, Mario says, "Its-a me, Mario!" because Desmond knows about Super Mario Bros and that gets sort of fed back into the Animus... Anyways, enough rambling about that book. I also read Mass Effect: Retribution. This was a great novel, expanding upon the Mass Effect universe and not including Shepard at all. It's essentially a side story involving the Illusive Man and Anderson. Besides just being a really good book, it also led to some backstory about Kai Leng, the assassin guy who appeared in Mass Effect 3 for seemingly no reason.
  2. Show me your desk/gaming space

I don't even see a towel! What is this, amateur hour? (But in all seriousness, that looks like an awesome setup)
  3. Other podcasts

Umm I done goofed how do I delete a second post? Or is this here forever?
  4. Other podcasts

...and then we see a new podcast, with Vinny and Nick Breckon. And they try to do some form of answering emails from fans, but every single one ends with either "Congrats Nick" or "Fuck Vinny", so they stop doing that.
  5. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

The only thing I heard about the Ouya after its release was that the game Amazing Frog was fun. Other than that, its disappeared seemingly completely.
  6. Life

After that I retired from racing altogether, keeping my undefeated streak intact forever.
  7. Life

everything hurts edit: i also cannot get the smell of stale beer out of my hair.
  8. Life

...on the plus side, Sabriel is an amazing book.
  9. Life

Well, since I've already mentioned which city I live in here, I guess it couldn't hurt too much. I'll be starting at the Brick Brewery Co in just a couple of hours.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

In fairness, they have to make it about a character that even people who aren't super familiar with the Batman universe will recognize. With them going for something aimed more at the justice system in Gotham, and not about Batman himself, that kind of only leaves them with Gordon. That said... I'm still not interested enough in Gotham to bother watching it.
  11. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

Wait, so that means there is a direct tie between Far Cry 3 and 4? I thought Far Cry was kind of like Final Fantasy, in that each game in the series is completely separate from one another? ...maybe I should actually play a FarCry game.

Just finished Dino 'Splode, an XBLIG platform we about a flame spitting dinosaur that explodes if left in sunlight for too long. It wasn't terrible, but the controls were very slippery. In addition, there are different powers for the character but switching powers never seems useful in the least - you can brute force your way through everything with plain old fireballs.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

So lately I've been going through all the old Idle Thumbs episodes, starting with Episode 1. Today I hit the very first episode I had ever listened to: Episode 75. Discussions included XCOM, the discussion of which was the sole deciding factor on whether or not I should consider getting Enemy Unknown (even though it wasn't out at the time I got it later thinking back on the episode), as I was currently playing XCOM Enemy Unknown. It was just weird.
  14. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

So, in interesting XBox news... http://news.xbox.com/2014/05/xbox-delivering-more-choices The big thing from that link, in my opinion, is that XBox users will no longer need a Gold membership to use apps like Netflix or YouTube. Which is awesome.
  15. Life

Congrats! Wishing you good luck! In other news... Monday night I start on the bottling line of the brewery. I once again have a job. Hooray!
  16. While the slogan is ridiculous, I loved the Adventures of Lolo games. So this is good news to me.
  17. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

...does anyone else think he looks like Anderson Cooper? ...maybe its just the hair.
  18. So... Nintendo announced for Canadian people that there is going to be a special Mario Kart 8 event on May 31st in Toronto and Montreal involving actual kart racing and the chance of winning a Blue Shell trophy. That's cool, but not what I want to talk about... In this same message, they want people who can't make it to either Toronto or Montreal to make "#IJustKarted" a thing on Twitter. Social media is weird, games are weird, games and social media are gross.
  19. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I'm guessing you already answered this, but are you playing the PC or PS2 version of Escape? I just want to mention, if you're doing the PC version... do lots of saves. I've never had as many problems trying to finish a game as I did with Escape. I had to play it 4 times because I hit bugs that prevented me from being able to finish the game. Most often were being unable to click on an item at all, or in two cases being unable to move Guybrush. It wasn't a bad game, I actually quite enjoyed it, but being a dumb kid who only made one save file and never learned his lesson and then hit a point where I absolutely could not continue... I just got really sick of it by the time I finished it. So, you know... be careful. That is all.

...for some reason I thought you meant a trackball, and was seriously concerned about your mental state.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

My parents live in a small town in Northwestern Ontario, fairly close to the Ontario-Manitoba border.
  22. SUPERHOT

SUPER HOT SUPER HOT I have nothing else to say, I just felt that I should add that to the conversation.
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

I was talking to my parents today and found out that this morning my hometown got hit by a large snowstorm. In the middle of May. Meanwhile I'm sitting here in my underwear with a fan on because I hate heat. Weather is weird.
  24. Life

I have a job interview tomorrow! Finally! It's for a position at a brewery, which I expect to be fairly hard work, but is probably one of the last places I expected to get called back for.
  25. Idle Sugar

OOH. Every year around Christmas my grandparents have a ton of spekulatius, which as I understand it is very similar to speculoos. Finding out they have a spread... that just sounds so incredibly good.
