  1. I Had A Random Thought...

This should probably go in the Life thread but I think it is too good of a follow up to the Friday the 13th shit so it's going here. So yesterday we went down and signed our new loan papers for our refinance and while signing we found out that our new monthly payments were going to be nearly $100 higher than what we were previously told. It turns out this was due to Geico tripling our goddamn homeowner's insurance. That was pretty fucking lame and put a big damper on the day but things got even worse when we got home and saw that the temperature in our house was 83 degrees even though we have our thermostat set at 79 degrees. So we had the A/C guy come out today and found out that we have a bad leak in our already failing air conditioning unit and that we would need to replace it. So we had no choice but to sign a bunch of papers today to finance the $9000 it will cost to get the new A/C unit installed. It has been a pretty miserable day but now I am just relishing in the delicious irony that is life. I think it is hilarious that all of that shit just happened to go down on the day that it did especially considering my views on that unlucky voodoo day nonsense. On the bright side, we already shopped around and found another insurance company that will give us the exact rates we were expecting so all will be good on that front. And at least we won't have to worry about our shitty A/C going out any more (plus we get a sweet programmable thermostat now and a more energy efficient unit so some added convenience and cheaper electric bills will be nice). Life is a fucking asshole sometimes.
  2. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

So this game is really good. The dialog options when talking to the founding fathers are some of the best I've seen in a game.
  3. Bogus journey is harder to love but I also liked it a lot. Finding out at the end that they gained their skills by travelling back in time to learn from the greats was an awesome twist.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

I'll have that talk with him today.
  5. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Wonderful follow up. So I just got to the point where the other two kids got sent back in time. I just have to say, god damn this game is not anything near what I expected. It definitely comes off as a bit of a drug induced fever dream. And I mean that in the best way possible. The things that Bernard says when you 'Look At' things are just too fucking perfect. Him saying "1952" when you look at the dime is also the best.
  6. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I am just about to start Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle and I am giddy with anticipation. This game might just blow my mind.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

I am not at all a morning person but lately I have had to wake up every morning before sunrise with baby Nolan. I've started to realize a pattern that I experience within the first five seconds of waking up each morning: 1st second: What the fuck is going on? Why am I awake? 2nd second (a cool homograph that I just noticed): Oh, there's barely any light in the sky; I can go back to sleep for awhile. 3rd second: Oh wait, Nolan's still sleeping right? 4th second: Fuck, he's awake. 5th second: I guess I'm getting up now.
  8. Ruining Children's Minds with Marketing

I mean this with all due respect but fuck you.
  9. Dreams!

Juno account? Google doesn't want to help me understand.
  10. Ruining Children's Minds with Marketing

Oh Jesus! I wasn't even aware how ingrained that was in my head until you mentioned that!
  11. I Had A Random Thought...

Oh man, piss in my hair. What an unlucky day.
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

No, it means people all over are going to subconsciously do a bunch of stupid shit because they are aware of what day it is and then will blame it all on being an "unlucky" day.
  13. Dreams!

I had an incredibly vivid dream last night that I pretty much remember every detail of. I started out in some church that I was forced to go to with various members of my family. There was a giant pool in the middle of the church that I was spitting sunflower seed shells into hoping no one else would notice. At one point one of my sisters noticed me doing this and threw a big fuss making everyone in the church very angry at me for desecrating their pool. I told them I would clean it up but before I could these two acrobat guys from America's Got Talent jumped in the pool with a giant net and got all of the shells out of the pool. I offered to help and apologized but everyone was still mad and wouldn't talk to me. Shortly after all that the sermon started and I was really bored and irritated because I'm an atheist and the last thing I wanted to hear was some religious sermon. Apparently, a nearby family noticed this and decided to kidnap me. They drove a couple hours south of Phoenix until they reached a dirt road (which doesn't exist in real life but it is a dirt road I've been on in one or two other dreams). They drove really far down past some remote town and into a sparse forest where there was an old rundown cabin on each side of the road. They brought me into one of the cabins where I saw a disconnected phone and just a bunch of old junk. I remember feeling very terrified at this point and thinking desperately about how I could maybe get the phone working again to call for help or do some other clever thing to make other people aware of where I was. The father was very stern and made it clear that I would be stuck there with them now and that there was no way I was escaping. I acted very courteously to gain favor with him but was secretly plotting to escape in any way possible. As time went on the cabin I was in started to transform. Suddenly, there was an old computer in the living room that the father was kind enough to give me access to and gave me all the passwords. So I went on the computer just pretending to do random, innocent things while in reality I was trying to get Outlook running so I could email my wife and tell her where I was. I kept having trouble and had to exit out eventually because I didn't want to raise suspicion. At this point there was suddenly a laptop available that the father also let me use. I continued my covert Outlook operation but kept having issues and eventually just ended up browsing the internet or something to make it appear that I was being well behaved. At this point the family decided to send me into town in their car and gave me my cell phone back. I was ecstatic because I knew this would finally be my chance to escape. I got into town, which was a small village built into a forested hill, and drove up a random driveway where I parked the car and continued trying to email my wife. For some reason I just couldn't type her email address and the message kept coming out all jumbled. I kept trying but every time it was full of typos and I just couldn't get the message out. I became worried that I was taking too long and didn't want to upset the father so I grabbed the groceries they needed and headed back to the cabin. When I got back the cabin had changed again significantly. There were now two flat panel tv's on the wall and it was beginning to look like a modern house. There were also multiple tablets throughout the house and I had access to all of them. I continued trying to covertly send an email out to my wife on the various devices but continued to have no luck. At one point I went into the bedroom where the daughter approached me and started telling me about how much she hated her family. Then she started screaming and getting really frustrated because she had a giant meth rock that she wasn't able to crush. I told her I couldn't help her and went back into the living room. Apparently by now I had become a role model for the son, who was just a kid. He was following me everywhere and I was really uneasy about it because he looked really sickly but I also felt bad because he had such shitty parents. The mom was really supportive though and was thrilled that I had become his role model because she thought I was a good person. At one point though, the kid ran up and tried to plant a kiss on my cheek as if I was his father. At this point the mother screamed and told me to back away because the kid apparently had a severely contagious form of gangrene. I was mortified at this point and woke up shortly after. This was one of those dreams that really affected me for some reason. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it today and it was just scary how vivid it was.
  14. While that part is debatable I still think it holds up as one of the best time travel movies ever made. I mean, how many movies give you the opportunity to see Mozart going nuts in a mall piano store? Also, I think you could argue that in a certain sense it has a better representation of time travel than even Back To The Future did. For instance, any time something was about to go wrong it didn't because they just made sure that after their excellent adventure they went back and did the things they needed to do to make sure that their past selves could get through everything. Also, meeting their future selves early in the movie and then repeating the scene as their future selves later in the movie was one of my favorite movie scenes ever. That movie was most excellent. No arguments on Pee Wee's Big Adventure though. That movie makes me want to buy bunny slippers and stuffed carrots that I leave on the floor next to my bed. I don't know why I always feel this compelling need to promote Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It's pretty pathetic I know.
  15. Rocksmith

Seriously though that is awesome considering it is much more of a learning tool than any of the other rhythm games. I would be proud too. And the reference was to the South Park episode about Guitar Hero from several years back. It is one of the truly great episodes of that show.
  16. Rocksmith

Well done sir! I take it you've reached rock star status and are getting invited to coke and sex parties now? I apologize for sounding like an ass if the reference is lost.
  17. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I see where you're coming from with wanting to stretch it out since this game is an awesome experience. I've also considered playing it straight on the paintings but when I realized how many there were (26) and how there is only a 25% chance of getting a correct painting each week that would mean it is likely to take 2 years to get them all assuming you catch Redd every single week during that 2 year period. And I'm not sure if paintings repeat or not which would make it take even longer if they do. I felt like condensing that down to 6 months was still pretty reasonable for me.
  18. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Ah, well that is probably only because I have cleared out the inventory of all of the stores every day to move that along a little faster. Also, if you haven't donated any paintings (which can be a real bitch) there is no way to upgrade the museum and get those silver tools. Just got my third painting yesterday and that is only because I've looked them up online to make sure I'm not getting a counterfeit.
  19. Life

Yeah, you're definitely right about that field being super competitive. Maybe try seeking out smaller companies that most people wouldn't be aware of and where the competition might not be as stiff. The pay might not be as good but you would most likely be a very attractive candidate if you are bringing in some good skills and experience and willing to work for a bit less than the industry standard. We have had a very hard time bringing experienced programmers into our group because of the lower (but still decent and with great benefits) wages. The more experienced people that we have managed to hire have been super valuable in our group and have played a large role in improving our processes. Just an idea.
  20. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Dude, I'm like right where you are. Club LOL just opened last night, I got the shoe store last week, second floor of the museum a couple days ago, and Able Sisters store is under construction again (for Gracie I assume?). Also just started getting silver tools and they are pretty sweet.
  21. Life

Twig, I think it's worth giving some more thought to what Thrik and dibs have both been getting at. It sounds like you're already where you need to be on the technical side of things and it could be how you are selling yourself that is falling short. You need to be like a used car salesman where you are both the used car and the salesman. As an example, the job I got out of college (and where I still work today) was only the second job I interviewed for and there were over 100 other applications full of people more qualified than me. I had no internship experience and the job was in power design which was not what I focused on in college. The only things I really had going for me was a high GPA and some decent people skills that I had developed over the years working at Applebee's. That and I did some research on the company before interviewing so I could talk intelligently about what they do. During the interview I focused mostly on my GPA and my Applebee's experience. I even straight up told them I had very limited knowledge of certain things they were looking for but by the end of the interview I was able to convince them that I was the type of person that could learn what needed to be learned and that could interface well with coworkers and clients. Whenever they threw something at me I didn't know I also made sure to bring up something else I was knowledgeable in to show that I at least had the skills they were looking for in a tangentially related area. But more than anything it was my Applebee's experience that got me the job. People skills are much more highly desired in technical fields than you would think. Also, I took a valium before the interview.
  22. Let's not forget the brilliance that was Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
  23. Assassin's Creed: Buccaneer

They should really switch the eagle to a parrot in this game. I want me some parrot vision.
  24. This was secretly one of the best handhelds. Gave me lots of entertainment during the early years of my sheltered childhood.
