  1. Intoxication in Video Games

Well good thing I have Psychonauts on my backlog. I guess I'll have to bump that game up a little higher on my list.
  2. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I see words but I'm not processing them. I remember something about Rubacava-somethingoranother and relationships and that's about it.
  3. Intoxication in Video Games

Now that would have been fantastic. I imagine this is the type of thing that a developer would have a really hard time doing without feeling compelled to tie it to a "drugs are bad" message so as not to seem like they are encouraging drug use.
  4. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

It would be especially fun playing as God through the story of Job. Just shit on him in every horrible way you can imagine to see if you can break him.
  5. Intoxication in Video Games

One concept I think would be really interesting (and probably highly controversial) would be a game that depicts a group of friends doing mushrooms or acid. If you were able to play through the experience that each character has during their trip, there could be a lot of possibility for some unique gameplay mechanics and visuals.

  7. goty.cx - It's that time of last year again

GTAV. I found it to be absolutely amazing in every area except for the story (although I did really enjoy the batshit crazy Trevor stuff). The scale, the level of detail in the world, and the high level of polish made for a very believable world that was always fun to inhabit. It is one of the few games that I am actually looking forward to obtaining 100% completion just so I can live in that world for a little bit longer.

After a couple year hiatus, the company I work for is back on Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For list. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/best-companies/2014/snapshots/73.html?iid=BC14_fl_list It's always interesting to see how a lot of the companies on this list operate and seeing that we made the list is pretty awesome.
  9. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I played some more last night and now that I've spent a bit more time in the game I have a better recollection of what was in each area and which items I had picked up the night before. First, in the Voodoo Lady's hut I had picked up the gum that I mentioned earlier, a needle, some glue, and a stick with a burning ember on one end (I may have actually picked this up on the beach but I can't remember). Then at one point I had figured out that I could use the glue on the skeleton arm, so I've got that in my inventory now. In the stage area I had picked up a white glove, a magician's wand and some lice from a jacket that was hung up. I think I also got a flyer for the voodoo hut out of the jacket pocket. Then, there was a ventriloquism book that I ended up picking up in one of these areas and I have that in my inventory now too. Last night I was able to finish exploring the rest of the areas I had available to me. First I went to the barber shop and talked to each barber. Then I found an area with a marked up field and some logs. Finally, I found a Cabana with some dude at the entrance that won't let me through because I'm not a member. After exploring each area, I spent a decent amount of time bouncing between them all. I eventually discovered that I could use my lice on the comb in the barber shop to trick the barber into thinking that the dude whose hair he was cutting had lice. Then the dude freaked out and ran off which means I can now sit in the chair for a haircut. Aside from this sequence I didn't really get any further. I'm thinking right now that the main way forward is going to involve me somehow cutting my way through the undergrowth that is near the lemonade stand (and the lemonade stand kid is a little shit by the way). I've already received several hints from the barber that the scissors stuck in the ceiling at the barber shop are sharp enough to cut through anything, so I'm guessing that will be what I need to get through the undergrowth. So far I haven't been able to reach the scissors though. I did find that I can elevate the barber chair but the barber forces it back down before I can get it to go high enough to reach the scissors. I think at one point the barber also challenged me to a log throwing contest so maybe doing that will move me forward.
  10. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

I totally agree. Bioshock Infinite was simply a twist on the story of Elijah. Booker represents Elisha, but instead of having the power to send out bears to attack his foes he has crows. Then Elizabeth is a rough representation of Elijah, who was taken up into a "city in the sky".

In this thread we are building our own Bible game.

Ooh thanks. I'll be sure to add those.

Here's a thought on how abilities might unlock in this game. You commit the original sin and are kicked out of the Garden of Eden. -Ability to wear clothes and have sex unlocked! You and everyone on the Ark are the only survivors on the planet after 40 days and 40 nights of rain. -Light now refracts! You give up all your riches so that you might enter the kingdom of heaven. -Camels can now walk through the eye of a needle! (Okay, I think I'm done for now) Edit: Okay one more You finally have achieved true faith in God. -Ability to move mountains unlocked!

Playing through the story of Daniel might be pretty fun too. Nebuchadnezzar reveals a dream to you about an image with a head made of gold, its chest and arms made of silver, its belly and thighs made of bronze, its legs made of iron, and its feet made of a mix of iron and clay. Then he tells you that this image is shattered by a big rock. He asks you to interpret the dream. What do you do? >Tell him some lame story about how the image represents a bunch of kingdoms and that the rock represents God's kingdom destroying the other ones. >Tell him an awesome story about how the image represents a demon known only as "Big Dog" and that the rock represents the only weapon capable of destroying Big Dog. You tell him about the threat of Big Dog and he gives you full control of his army to build weapons of mass destruction. Yeah, it is some pretty disgusting stuff. Sorry if my joking offends.

Haha, nice. I wonder what the message is if they survive with third degree burns over 80% of their body?
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

Well, maybe it is good that I used the term "regular" because I imagine that whatever the regular flavor is in any given country would be the flavor that would fill the third space. Here it would be butter and salt.
  18. Feminism

I can't wait to hear the stories of the dumb shit some kids might try after playing this because of it's "factual" basis. I can just see someone playing through the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and thinking, "Oh shit, as long as I believe in God I will be immune to fire!".
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

Cheddar, caramel, and regular I think. And if you're lucky you'll sometimes find a dead mouse in the bottom of the tin.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

I want to see a sitcom where Yoda, Methuselah, and Gollum all share an apartment and are co-owners of a local coffee shop. The combination of extreme senility, advanced psychosis, and constant talking in riddles by wacky dudes that have lived for centuries would make for some good American entertainment.

Some people are just more prone to cult mentality and it overrides their ability to think rationally. A rational person would be able to draw the reasonable conclusion that if major governments can't prevent massive leaks of sensitive information, then some secret society that supposedly controls those governments and everything else wouldn't fare any better. Unless Jay Z really is just that good. I say leave the weed part out (cause I smoke a lot of it). All it really takes is for someone to be libertardian or bow down to Alex Jones. I can say with 100% confidence (backed up by science and stuff) that there is a causal relationship between either of those things and the belief in Illuminati nonsense whereas the weed thing is just an unfortunate correlation.
  22. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I got a little bit further last night but there wasn't much in the way of puzzles after escaping from the ship so most of my time was spent exploring the island and talking to various characters. Resuming from where I left off, after some more experimentation I discovered that I could use the diamond ring to cut the porthole glass, causing the ship to flood and pushing Guybrush up to the surface. After this I got to see another cinematic where Guybrush proposed to Elaine using the ring from the ship. Unfortunately the ring was cursed and when Elaine put it on her finger she turned to solid gold. After this I pretty much just combed through several of the areas picking up items and talking to characters along the way. I met up with the Voodoo Lady again and got some advice from her. While in her voodoo hut I picked up a few odds and ends (I haven't had to try using any of them yet so I can't quite recall what all the items were that I picked up) and used one of my wooden nickels to get a pack of gum. Outside of her hut I chatted with Murray again and gave him some gum. Then, after finding out that Elaine had been stolen, I started working my way through the various buildings in the city to find whatever items I could and chat with random people. The only things that have stood out to me so far are the big fat chicken in the first area, two dudes rehearsing a bastardized version of Romeo and Juliet on some stage, and a building that I keep getting kicked out of because I don't have a reservation. I'm sure once the puzzles in this area emerge and I spend more time examining everything, I'll be able to more thoroughly report on specific shit. Also, now that I've put a few hours in I'm really warming up a lot more to the art style and voicework in the game. It turns out the voicework for Guybrush is pretty damn good after all. I guess it just sounded weird at first.
  23. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

There's one about 2014 predictions (https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/9068-2014-predictions/) but I haven't seen any specifically about video games in 2014.
  24. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Yeah, the landscapes were very awesome. And it's soundtrack is one my favorites so far too.
  25. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Thanks, I'll have to check those out. Overall I really dug The Dig, it's just that those last few puzzles and the ending just kind of put a damper on an otherwise awesome experience. And so far I've only ever played the classic versions of MI 1 and 2. I purchased the special edition versions after the fact and I plan to replay both after I'm finished with these last few games.
