Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
Zeusthecat replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
That... was beautiful. More beautiful than a plastic bag blowing around for 15 minutes. Actually, someone needs to redo that video to that music from American Beauty. -
Thanks for the backup! I do admittedly like a lot of really dumb movies but I have a juvenile sense of humor and laugh at just about everything. As an example, The Pest is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watch that movie and crack up every single time at John Leguizamo's retardedness even though it is a universally hated movie. I mean, he owes money to the fucking Scottish Mafia, how is that not funny? I hope I never end up on Hoarders. If they tried to tell me to get rid of one of my multiple Game Boys or NES's or SNES's I would fucking go apeshit. Also, don't ask why I have multiple copies of Metroid, Battletoads, Excitebike, Punchout, Ninja Gaiden... I am a hoarder, and this is my story.

Ah, cool. So Independence Day sucks (but Jeff Goldblum, I mean kind of obligatory). My wife and I saw Signs in theaters on our first date (but it is still a fucking stupid movie, agreed). Adam Sandler movies are all terrible except Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore (don't ask me why I own any of his other movies, with those 2 exceptions I agree with you). Waiting was a horrible movie and Dane Cook has never been funny in a single movie but I had to own that movie because I worked at Applebee's through college and it was the movie we would all get stoned and watch after our shift so we all had it. Underworld makes me want to gouge my eyes out. On the other hand, I really liked 300 when it first came out but it has become somewhat of a comedy to me with the passage of time so I still like it but for different reasons (and it came with my HD DVD player along with Bourne Identity). Which brings us to Will Ferrell. I absolutely love Will Ferrell and most of his movies, even the really fucking stupid ones. I have friends that despise him and that's fine, I won't defend my love for that beautiful man. He has invaded my brain since he first emerged on SNL and he is a part of who I am. Please feel free to offer up your opinion on some of my other movies (or games for that matter). I love having these discussions and have no problem admitting when a movie is terrible even if I like it. You seem a little more educated that me as a film buff and I'm curious how badly I fail with my taste in movies.

Also, Tegan, I'm curious which of those movies you were able to make out from the picture and which ones you think are terrible. I was looking back at the picture and If you're mostly referring to the movies on the shelf above my N64 and Super Nintendo games then yes, over half of those are terrible and we bought on impulse because they were like $2 on black friday (ugh, I hated the Transporter and Underworld movies). But you might also notice The Truman Show on that shelf, one of the greatest movies of all time!

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I guess they already did something like this on a Dutch tv show but I haven't seen anything posted here so... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo1lXpzgkVA -
Not 30 yet! I'm firmly planted at 28 and hope to be there for a couple more years.
-
Yeah, I don't really watch too many movies cause I'm too busy playing video games. The vast majority of those are watched by my wife and daughter.
-
Man, I look way too stoned and creepy in the picture I posted. Here's a better one with me and my beautiful pregnant wife when we drove up to see the snow this last December (I live in the desert).

Okay guys, here's my setup. When we bought our house, I converted my second story loft into my gaming/home theater dungeon and squeezed everything I could into it. The tv is a 58" plasma and I'm running 7.1 surround sound. Not pictured is my PS3 in the bedroom, the Wii downstairs, a couple more Super Nintendos, another NES (the little white box is a Yobo Nintendo that plays all the NES cartridges and doesn't have a worn out 72 pin), and a Virtual Boy. I'm so sorry for the barrage of pictures but this is my pride and joy and I hope people here enjoy the collection. Sorry if it's a little messy but at least most of it is in alphabetical order. Oh and I built a computer a couple years ago and it has a GTX 580 in it so it can run most games with pretty decent settings.

I've started putting my potty humor between spoiler tags so hopefully I won't be aggravating people as much, and I'll pretty much keep it to the Random Thought thread although it spilled over into this one for a couple posts, oops, my bad. Somewhat related to eye strain, for my first couple years out of college I did street lighting and outside power design for the company I work for. I learned some fascinating things about various sources of light and how the rods and cones in our eyes interpret light. A big takeaway for me was understanding that seeing really bright white light like the fluorescent lights in my office is perceived by my brain similar to how white noise is perceived by my ears. It is generally unpleasant and can actually cause headaches for some people. It is amazing how big of a difference it can make using soft white light or "cleaner" light that allows you to make a sharper distinction between colors(3500k color temperature and lower is generally pretty pleasant if you decide to go with LED bulbs, higher color temperatures can get a little harsh and have a blue tinge that looks kind of weird) in your house. Soft white CFLs are okay but I still consider them to be kind of shitty. The most favorable light to me is produced by halogen light bulbs and some of the new lower color temperature LEDs. I recommend experimenting with the lighting in a single closed room and observing how it makes you feel. I have been amazed at how much something as simple as the lighting in a room can have an impact on my mood and concentration. You might also notice you like being in certain stores more than others and oftentimes it comes down to the type of lighting they are using.

I liked this post, it made me laugh. But I worry that you are encouraging me to continue with my immature dick, poop, and asshole humor. Everyone on these forums seems so damn intelligent and mature and for the most part I just assume everyone rolls their eyes in disgust as they read this shit that I spew out of my asshole. But I can't help it so I try to weave in some random intelligent sounding philosophical shit so I can justify continuing to talk about my junk. You know what else improves your life? It improves your life because it trains you to get really good at lying when you're in a sticky situation. (Get it? Sticky situation!! Ha!)

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Zeusthecat replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
That is pretty fucking boneheaded. So I don't fully understand the little details of how the law works with copyright infringement but if, say, a television news station decided to start doing a daily video game segment where they showed some footage of a game and offered some kind of social commentary would that be considered copyright infringement? I guess in a nutshell I wonder where freedom of the press ends and copyright infringement begins. Is the key issue that these people are making money off of their videos and thus are violating copyright laws? Would Nintendo be able to claim ownership if people weren't making money off of them? Am I asking stupid questions? -
Shhhh! I was strategically using that fallacy to distract everyone from how awkward I am. Hey, I think I see a man made of straw in another thread using hyperbole and citing so-called experts to validate his points. You should go check it out. And it is relevant to this thread. Boners in the morning improve your life, it's a fact. A healthy man should have wood every morning and accidentally pee all over their walls.

Dude, is it just me or were you in the middle of taking a dump in your pants during that picture? Classic.
-
I think a super clever thing would also be to make all of the women very manly and overly muscular with six packs and everything and make all of the guys have 2 inch waists and f-cup breasts and weigh 45 pounds.
-
How would I exaggerate it? Tiny a-cup boobs, a gigantic dimply ass that is highly rendered to show the cellulite, a hunchback, and everyone would have Helen Hunt's face. Now THAT is a game I would play. Point being that it would also be funny and absurd but also not totally cliche.
-
That's cool, I don't think there is necessarily a right or wrong way to feel about it. I just personally see this style and shake my head because its been done over and over. Yeah, its over the top and ridiculous and possibly innocent at first but I've "been there, seen that" enough already.
-
Maybe true, but I think it is reasonable to be turned off by it.
-
Hey, I'm right there with you. Too often in games this style is used for obvious reasons and it is generally demeaning to women imo. Borderlands 2 was the first time in recent memory that I remember seeing an overweight woman in a game (and she was fucking hilarious). If it wasn't the prevalent mindset in games to have women with impossible proportions I think this style might be clever in some way but it's not exactly in a vacuum.

Nice article, I laughed, I cried, I saw some decent looking games. I guess the good news is that the only mobile games I've ever played on any platform are Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, and Sudoku. Never played any tower defense games, Plants vs Zombies or anything. I never paid much attention to mobile games before but hearing the guys talk on the cast about the various mobile games they play has piqued my curiosity.

Wow, thanks! I can't wait to put those bad boys on and feel like a real man! My wife is gonna think I'm totally hot.
