  1. I Had A Random Thought...

And if by messed up you mean sexy then yes. We are in a very sexy place right now.
  2. Difficulty and balance in Video games.

I generally don't like how harder difficulty levels are implemented in games and typically stick to the default difficulty for similar reasons as thestalkinghead stated. I'm just having a weird mental episode right now where I want to see exactly how badass I am at video games and COD WAW happened to be the next game up to bat in my backlog and gave some extra incentive with the achievements. But damn it is frustrating when I feel like I've got my route and everything figured out and random events that I have limited control over keep stopping me in my tracks. One game that I think does difficulty right is Rainbow Six Vegas. I cannot count how many hours I have spent doing Terrorist Hunt missions on the hardest difficulty with the max number of enemies possible. I think they did an excellent job with the AI and I have found many different loadouts that are all equally effective in different ways. Smoke grenades and breaching charges ended up being my favorite loadout but I had just as much success with grenades, flashbangs, and incendiary grenades.
  3. Difficulty and balance in Video games.

I have been playing COD World at War for the last few days now and decided play on Veteran difficulty since I managed to beat COD Modern Warfare on Veteran and even did the hostage airplane mission in under a minute. I usually play games on the default setting but every now and again I feel like challenging myself. Plus the Call of Duty games have achievements for beating each level on Veteran so it is enough incentive for me to give it a shot. That being said I am really really really really really really really really really really fucking goddamn frustrated right now. I am on the tenth mission and have been stuck on a checkpoint in an underground metro for a few hours now. To make matters worse, bombs are dropping above ground which causes the whole screen to pretty much shake continuously and is going to give me a fucking stroke. After being stuck for a few hours numerous times in this game, I am going to say that I think the way difficulty is done in these games is fucking terrible. Here are my gripes: Call of Grenades Grenades at War - I am in a shower of grenades all the time. It is infuriating. There is literally nothing I can do when 4 grenades drop next to me when I'm in cover. I either sit there and take it or try to run and get shot 532 times as soon as I pop out of cover. I try to throw them back but there are just SO FUCKING MANY. Teammate AI - I literally have to kill almost every enemy singlehandedly. Every now and then one of my teammates will kill a guy but for the most part they all just sit there shooting at the air. Or maybe they're killing invisible guys. I can't tell you how many times I am in cover and I have two teammates 10 feet ahead of me also in cover and an enemy runs right past them and rapes my face. He completely ignores my teammates and my teammates ignore him like there's some sort of secret truce where everyone agrees that I should be the first to die. Infinite spawning enemies - I just plain hate this design. It makes no sense that once I reach a magical barrier the enemies stop spawning but until then it is a fucking onslaught. I hate that crap so much and I feel it encourages me to play stupidly. I pretty much have to run and pray sometimes in the hope that I can avoid getting shot and blown up just so I can get past that barrier. Enemies have predator senses - I pop my head out of cover and before I can even begin to line up a shot I'm dead. The reaction times the enemies have is godlike and they always know exactly where my head is so they can shoot it the second they have line of sight. They are just too perfect. And yet my teammates can't seem to hit anything. The one thing going for this game is the checkpoint placement. Every checkpoint I get is fucking glorious. But even so I feel like most of the time when I get through a section and get the next checkpoint it was mostly due to a lucky run. There is a certain level of trial and error where I eventually find the 'best' route to take but it still takes forever because I have to get lucky enough to not get grenades showered on me and not get shot. Despite how much I hate the difficulty in this game and think it's done terribly I am going to keep going at it. I am pretty close to the end and I know I'll get past this checkpoint soon but I needed to vent a little. The sense of accomplishment is going to be huge when I finally beat this thing but dampened a little by the amount of luck that has been involved.

Nintendo may not have the fanciest graphics but at least they know the importance of little details like penguin assholes. If they ever make a game with puffins maybe we'll get puffin penises.
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

Yay! Everyone's happy again, nice job guys. 1. Sometimes I listen to Tool when I'm happy and Maroon 5 when I'm sad and vice versa. I find that music can feel wildly different depending on my mood so it's a crapshoot for me. But fuck country. That music sucks my balls. 2. Donkey Cock Country sounds like a terrifying game. Like Dead Space meets Ron Jeremy terrifying. 3. Minecraft will have donkeys after the next patch. 4. Hopefully they don't render donkey cocks in the next patch because it will cause all other Minecraft mobs to feel inadequate. 5. I'm ever so slightly drunk. 6. I love you guys. 7. But totally in a platonic way.
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

Come on man. He was just stating his opinion in a similar way that you did in your first post and your response to his was pretty condescending. I don't think Twig said anything that warranted that kind of response. Can we please keep this thread lighthearted and jovial? Donkey cocks are big and scare me.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

Those are the best. I also like when a nice solid foot long comes out and snaps off perfectly clean leaving you feeling like you just got hollowed out.
  8. Software

There are a few pieces of software we use at work that are incredibly handy: 1. Search Everything (Free) - Searches all files and folders on your Windows PC lightning fast. Literally as you type into the field the results update in real time. It has been a godsend. 2. Snagit (Techsmith) (Free trial, $50 for full version, Windows or Mac) - Screen capture tool. This tool is able to grab the handles of all of your windows and the elements within so that you can quickly and cleanly take a perfectly clipped screenshot of any window. You can snag by window or by drawing a region and the image editor has a few nifty features too. You can also set up timers and stuff. I use this program extensively when doing our Help documentation. Way fucking better than using Print Screen and Paint.

There's a fucking cricket chirping in my house. It's been going on for awhile now. I think it's stopped but I'm not sure. I can't tell if I'm still actually hearing the chirping or if I'm just playing it in my head at this point. On a related note, I was taking a shit and I saw a big ass cricket run right up to me and I instinctively lifted both legs in the air like I was about to give birth. I then grabbed some toilet paper and smashed his bitch ass (while I still had my legs in the air). Maybe that was the one that was chirping and the sound really did stop. But his cricket family could still be out there somewhere mourning his death and I really am hearing chirping. I'm broken.

    Okay, now I'm horny.
  11. Unity

Thanks for the advice guys! Really appreciate it. Doesn't Visual Studio 2012 also offer a free version of Team Foundation that supports up to five developers or something like that? I know 2012 express version has quite a bit of functionality compared to what 2010 had and I thought that was one of the features. And the integrated workflow stuff is really nice too.
  12. Sean is magical. He has a gift for telling good stories and hearing his Far Cry 2 story way back when had me convinced. Lots of love for Sean. I will say though that I really miss all the conversations about poop, cocks, and donkey cocks. I've been listening to older casts lately and those three things were mentioned almost every episode and had me bursting into laughter regularly. In fact, I think there should be a 10 minute segment devoted to that holy trinity every episode. Come on guys. No love for donkey cocks?

Ironically all of the temptation to do bad shit went away when I stepped away from religion. Not that porn is bad per se. Just not my thing.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Does anyone else here like Workaholics? I have to assume it's been talked about here at some point considering they do an entire fucking Wizard rap routine in one of the episodes. The reason I bring it up is there is one episode of this show that is my favorite episode of any tv show I've ever seen. It's called Office Campout (Season 1 Episode 3) and if you've ever had any experience with shrooms this is a must watch. Even if you haven't it is pretty solid. (My post in another thread about Catherine Zeta Jones is what reminded me of this episode)
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

What? Can't they just like, you know, not put porn on? Or are they implying that porn will invade your life against your will and you have to put up barricades to stop it?
  16. Unity

Thanks! I like to think of it that way too. In my case, I am just making a game for my own satisfaction and for the thrill of creating something. I absolutely love programming and just going through the process of building all of my classes and refactoring my code to make it more efficient is almost like playing a video game in and of itself. But I suppose if I was making a game that I intended other people to play I would probably use something like Unity or Game Maker to facilitate the process and allow me to focus more on the higher level stuff. Also, how prevalent is the use of C# for making video games? I always thought C++ was more commonly used because it allows for better performance, multiple inheritance, and the use of pointers but lately it seems like I've been hearing a lot about C# being used to make games. But keep in mind, all of the programming I have learned has been what I've taught myself plus some stuff I've learned on the job and a bit in school (but that was mostly just C and some Verilog) so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.
  17. Unity

So I take it that me programming in C++ with the Allegro library and using Paint.net to draw all my bitmaps is an incredibly inefficient way of making my game? Sweet. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I hear that. I followed politics and the news religiously for awhile and was always fucking angry. Then I took a step back, realized that I shouldn't be getting so down because I have a steady income, a roof above my head, and nothing is stopping me from doing the shit that I love. So now I just focus on enjoying every second of this short life I have and don't bother wasting energy thinking about the shitty stuff. Life is good now. Not saying this is at all related to your qualms. I'm just a rambler.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

Catherine zeta joooones, she dips beneath lasers. Ohoooooh.
  20. Which is what makes King of Limbs so good to me. Lots of humming and him making sounds. I saw Radiohead live when they came to Phoenix last year and it was so good. Hearing Pyramid Song, Airbag, and Paranoid Android live was just... I can't find the words.
  21. Well, maybe we should have just fed him a herring.
  22. Double Fine - Kickstarter - MASSIVE CHALICE

Personally, I think Kickstarter is a beautiful thing. In a world run by multi-million (or billion) dollar corporations that turn everything into a formula and tend to force the same tropes down our throats over and over it is refreshing to see that there is a model that actually puts the power into the hands of the consumer. Sure there are downsides and it isn't always rainbows and butterflies but I really appreciate that there is an avenue for the customers to determine what type of higher budget (not AAA obviously) games get funding. Depending on how things continue to go with Kickstarter, some of the big publishers may hopefully feel more inclined to branch out with more new IPs and fresh game concepts.
  23. And if I remember right, you have over 200 games? If you've played 90-95% of them to completion then I just don't know what to say. Except you win at video games. P.S. As a collector I am very jealous of your game count.
  24. These 4 guys are totally my one way best friends. And I'm a creepy internet dude talking about people I've never met being my best friends. Please don't get a restraining order on me. So. After that awkward little tussle I just want to say that I love Radiohead and have never understood a word that comes out of Thom York's mouth. I looked up the lyrics to Pyramid Song (my favorite) and was blown away (IGN.com) by how poetic and beautiful it is. It made me love the song even more but also made me sad that I can't comprehend lyrics because sometimes they can add a lot to the enjoyment of a song for me.
  25. Jesus dude! Are you really fucking serious? I hope you're kidding but something tells me you're not. Please don't ever post that kind of shit again and ruin these forums. Or like Jake said, just fucking leave. Everyone on this cast fucking rocks. Period. It has the best group of personalities and I really like the extra dynamic that Sean brought when he joined the cast. Like any group of friends who are passionate about something there is always going to be disagreements and some tension here and there. I hope I was not misinterpreted in my earlier post but I was just jokingly stating that it would be cool to hear the guys duke it out no holds barred. It was a joke. Edit: Wow, nice work guys! Went to view the profile and GONE. Thank you for keeping the riffraff out.
