Yeah, this game is amazing at making me feel stupid and smart. I must have looked at that leaflet a few dozen times and just did not assign any significance to the fact that it says her picture is on the front. It's weird how I spent so much time doing other weird stuff and completely glazed over that. Thank you all again so much for the hints! That reminder that the bartender had said all of his near grog went to Kate Capsize was the big missing link. He had said that so long ago that I had forgot and thought I was still supposed to somehow find a way to get it from him. Those colored drinks really fucked with me too. In the end I'm glad the solution was a smart and fairly logical one (unlike the monkey wrench problem). So after getting through that progress is coming much faster. I think I spent so much time analyzing every item I had on that one puzzle that it feels pretty obvious now when I need to use them. I had already found Wally's replacement monocle so I was able to quickly move on to LeChuck's fortress after giving him the map pieces. LeChuck's fortress ended up being pretty straightforward. As soon as I got to the hallway with all the doors I knew that the spit encrusted paper would come into play and got through it in a snap. Likewise, it didn't take me long to figure out how to get me and Wally down from LeChuck's rube goldberg machine. From there I got to Dinky Island and saved my game at the point where the parrot leads you to the dinosaur bush. I figure I probably need to find a way to open that nailed shut box to find another cracker for him to guide me further. I have to say, this game has some of the best writing I have ever seen in a video game. The timing of the character dialog and the things they say is just spot on and so fucking clever. The dialog between Guybrush and Wally was so perfect (I love Wally by the way, he might be my favorite character in the game), the whole UPS shipping segment was done very well, and LeChuck's dialog with Guybrush along with his ridiculous rube goldberg machine was hilarious. Running into Herman Toothrot was also awesome. I sat there for awhile firing guesses at his "tree falling in the woods" question and was quite surprised and tickled by how many colors you can guess. I have to assume they put every color that has a name in there because I kept getting new ones until I got bored and moved on. This game has me hooked on the adventure game concept. I'm thinking of moving on to Maniac Mansion next and then Day of the Tentacle after that.

This is why their move is so smart in my opinion. They are giving people what they want and likely convincing a good number of people that they have truly had the noblest of intentions all along. I am still amazed that they actually reversed course but the more I think about it the more I wonder if this will actually work more to their advantage than if they had done this from the start. Wii Fit is the Benjamin Button of video games.

Hard to say for sure one way or another. The way I look at it Sony and Microsoft must have realized early on that there would be a lot of potential backlash if they decided to push forward with the DRM and always on measures. It makes sense then that they would have designed their consoles to work with or without these requirements in case the backlash was so great that they would end up losing more money than they would have gained by implementing them. I still think what you're saying is true. Microsoft probably did expect Sony to do the same but unfortunately announced their plans first. Then Sony sat back and watched the shitstorm and flipped their switch the other way for their announcement (as Doug said).

Yeah, the PS4 still has me with the lower price point but I will be much more inclined to pick up an Xbone at some point.
-
Toblix, you're probably right about them having this as a backup plan all along. It puts them back in an advantageous position because now they are likely to be viewed as the company that was willing to go to more extreme lengths to please the consumer. I wonder if they are in a stronger position now than if they would have done this from the start. Now this is really becoming like the presidential debates.

Holy shit! My mind is now blown. Holy shit again, yes! Wow, just wow. I take back a good portion of the negative stuff I've said about Xbone. That is a very admirable thing for them to do. My decision just got a hell of a lot tougher.

Sorry for another post but I just wanted to say that I am so bummed that I never thought of using the leaflet on the poster. I mean, it just seems so obvious now. If only that bartender would have repeated what he said about giving all the near grog to Kate Capsize I would have spent more time focusing on that leaflet. It was so long ago now that I literally had no recollection of what he had said about the near grog before I had my library ID. Moving forward I will be careful to pay close attention to every word that is spoken in case it is something that is only said once.

Oh god dammit. I think I need to use that fucking leaflet on the Guybrush poster outside of the jail to get her locked up. I just put the hints together that you guys provided and that must be it. Fuck. Me. Edit: just saw your post and haven't clicked your spoiler but I'm sure that is what the solution is.

Hmmmm... Thanks for posting that. I swear I tried using all of my items on her and talked to her countless times but I've obviously missed something. Or maybe I never showed her damn leaflet to the bartender or something. Thanks again Udvarnoky!

So I finally gave up and clicked on your spoilers miffy. I am still confused.

Yeah, I definitely see how downloading games can be more convenient than going to a store and buying them. I just think it's weird that they're making such a big deal out of being able to start playing it a little bit sooner. Maybe it's more of the general trend of immediate access with technology that I find weird. It seems like I hear a lot about how important it is to get new things in front of consumers as quick as possible because of our apparent diminishing attention spans. To me, it really wouldn't impact my life all that much if I had to wait for a game to finish downloading before playing it. But that's just me. Edit: Oops, missed your post Thrik. Looks like you beat me to the punch on the immediate access thing.

I don't get it. Is the whole "going to the store and buying a game" thing really as big of a problem as they are making it? It seems like such a weird thing to be making such a big deal out of.

I agree with the sentiment that the gamepad is a flop. It just is't nearly as innovative as motion controls were for the Wii. By the time it came out Microsoft had already implemented Smartglass (which has been pretty lame in my opinion) and Sony had already done somewhat similar stuff with the PS3/Vita. To make matters worse, they only used a 480p screen without multi-touch support. I think most people, even the casual crowd, just won't get excited by the gamepad when they already have phones with at least 720p resolution and all of the modern features they have come to expect out of a touch screen. As far as enhancing gameplay is concerned, it disappoints me that Nintendo's main focus has been on off-screen play using the gamepad. This is something they already did with the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. In fact, I had a friend that had some Pac Man game for Gamecube where 3 people played as the ghosts on-screen with a limited field of view around their ghost and the other person played as Pac Man on the Game Boy Advance (and it was really fucking fun too). Having had these experiences from Nintendo before, I cringe every time I hear them tout off-screen play as a new feature. Maybe they will eventually do something truly innovative with the screen but so far I feel like they are just re-hashing old ideas and not really offering anything new. That being said, it looks like some games are starting to materialize. I am starting to become mildly interested in a few upcoming games (notably Pikmin 3 which Miyamoto seems really excited about and in turn is kind of making me excited) but not interested enough to want to buy the console yet.

Prison Architect is The Shawshank Redemption of video games.

Portal is The Big Lebowski of video games. Conker's Bad Fur Day is The Hangover of video games.

I just finished Candy Box. It was really interesting at first but as soon as the discovery part of the game ended it became kind of lame. I probably would have liked it a lot more if it ended at The sense of discovery at the beginning was really great though and genuinely caught me by surprise when each new mechanic was added.

Super Mario Bros is the Wizard of Oz of video games.

I will use my newly developed carpentry skills to build a house around you as you sleep and fill it with an army of robots that will help you with whatever you need. Then, when you wake up I'll teach you to break dance.
-
Play video games, get some yardwork done while it's cool (we're getting to around 110 degrees F during the day now), read up on stuff, get some more programming done on my side project, watch some movies and shows that I've never gotten around to watching, learn how to break dance, learn how to juggle 5 balls instead of only 3, practice drawing and doing artistic stuff, write some poetry (I've never done that but always wanted to if I had more time), start a blog, use my useless engineering skills to make a kickass robot, rip up my carpet and put tile in, go back and read all of my old college textbooks (especially history and philosophy), learn how to do some basic carpentry, learn how to play piano and guitar, and a lot of other stuff. Like SAM said, with my limited time I end up just focusing on a few things that are at the top of my pile.

I will agree to disagree. My mind is constantly racing. I don't ever feel the desire to sleep or take a nap (if I dose off I actually wake up kind of irritated that I just lost time that could have been spent doing something more interesting) unless my body forces me to. Even then I will often lay in bed with my mind still going through all of it's bullshit thoughts, sorting out the events of the day, and planning out what my next sequence of actions will be. Then I start thinking about why I am thinking about what I am thinking about and why I can't stop thinking about things I am thinking about and eventually pass out. Then I have the hardest fucking time waking up every single morning, even if I just got 10 hours of sleep. Maybe my mind just continues to race while I'm sleeping and I really need 14 hours of sleep to counteract that, who knows. And on the food thing, don't get me wrong, I love to eat good tasting food. I just hate needing to eat. It is a rather boring activity and again, it detracts from doing more interesting stuff. I just want to use the time I have to do as much interesting and fulfilling stuff as possible.
-
Remember that villain in Die Another Day that had a special device that allowed him to only get one hour of sleep a night? Yeah, he got a lot of shit done. Remember Tyler Durden? Yeah, he got a lot of shit done. Sleeping sucks. And I'll take that one step further: eating sucks too. I am often very annoyed when I get hungry and need to eat. Why can't I just always feel well rested and not hungry?

I was perhaps a bit stubborn in my earlier posts regarding my preference to only expose myself to the classic graphics so as not to spoil my perception of the game. That being said, I really like how characters express themselves with the classic pixel-y graphics. Maybe it's just a nostalgia thing for me but I love seeing super exaggerated reactions like eyes popping out of a character's head or their jaw dropping to the ground when something crazy happens.
-
If I could take my 7-8 hours of sleep each night and move that over to video game time I would be very happy.

Miffy, you're too kind. So I wasted a couple more hours last night trying to figure this out. I got really excited when I noticed that "Looking At" the bottles in the voodoo hut reveals what is in each one. I thought maybe that was what I was missing and that there would be other groups of items in the game that would reveal more information about what they were by "looking at" them. So I went everywhere and "looked at" everything and had no luck. I am now at the library methodically checking out every single book just to see if there is one that reveals some piece of information. If that doesn't work then my next course of action is to take another break and ponder things a bit more. I think I've exhausted almost all of the straightforward mechanical interactions in the game and am stuck because I'm either not seeing something obvious or there is a more obscure mechanic in the game I am missing (like "looking at" each bottle in the voodoo hut revealing what each one is). I've also already written down a list of every item in my inventory and divided it up into items that can be "used" with other items and items that can't be "used" (unless it is only allowed to be used in specific cases or areas). I'll spend some time staring at that and maybe organize it a bit further to see if something pops. If none of this produces any results then I think I will finally give in and click the spoiler tags to see the hints.
