Esports Today 8/18/2015: Putting the Evil in Geniuses
Reyturner replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Esports Today Discussion
I think it speaks to the relative immaturity of the scene. Of the top 30 highest earning esports athletes in history, 29 of them are Dota 2 players. Of those 29, i'm pretty sure ~23 of them weren't there until after TI5. In a couple of years there will be dozens of millionaires playing Dota 2 professionally. That means lawyers and contracts and not kicking players over bad feelings and then shitting on them in dank meme blogs. It'll be interesting to see what money will do to Dota 2. -

MGS4 was a mess but I very much enjoyed it and remember it as one of the best games on the PS3. I also cannot be trusted when it comes to MGS.- 1367 replies

Maybe do the A-Z challenge of the heroes in the Limited Heroes pool? My dota diet is like 99% watching it 1% playing it, and half the reason for that is that I have crippling ladder anxiety and every time I boot up i just go into a private lobby and do last hitting practice or something instead of hitting Play Now (the other half is kids). I want to get myself to triple digit games played and I'm thinking about doing that to get myself comfortable.

Esports Today 8/11/15: Reliving the International
Reyturner replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Esports Today Discussion
There's also no netcafe culture in NA. Pretty much the only access people have to PCs outside of the home is at school or in libraries. Piracy and cheap high quality broad band is pretty much reasons A-Z for why any Lords Managements are so hugely popular in China, SEA and CIS. To my knowledge, Dota pros from outside of NA don't really come from privilege. -
I seems Fear if getting more surgery and I've seen speculation that he might switch to a support role to save himself some strain. Also, if he retires due to his injury EG would need a new carry, so I see why getting RTZ would be good for them. EG as a team will have no soul now. A bunch of jaded, rage babies and salt shakers. I wonder if Universe will stick around (I have no idea what his temperament is, does anyone?) I wonder if we'll ever see SingSing on a team again. He's the definition of a pub star; half his charm is his running commentary and goofs (tho YMMV). EE and others have said he's hard to work with and, besides, whenever I see him stream, the donations are always coming in fast and furious. My best guess is he's making at least 100€ an hour just making fun of Tucker and randomly joining games with other pros. I'm not really sure what is keeping Dendi on Nav'Vi.

that's the joke I would have made / 10 can't hate.

EG is dead to me. At least, with the Majors coming up, all teams need to be stable by September, so there won't be many more. But fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that shit

True Detective Weekly 6: Church in Ruins

I found it really weird how Velcoro was just casually banging out an explanation as to what the papers where: how did he so quickly suss out the bureaucratic games they were playing? Would that be something a detective would happen to understand? It kind of felt like they just needed those papers to be "the big break" and didn't want to worry about how any of these guys had any idea what they were looking at. Maybe they were originally supposed to show it to Frank and that was written out? -

I put this in the Dota thread but it relevant to this ep as well The amount of trust ppd has in his team mates is remarkable. -
PPD posted an in depth analysis of EG's drafting during the TI finals. Interesting stuff

True Detective Weekly 8: Omega Station Pre-Discussion
Reyturner replied to Jake's topic in True Detective Weekly Episodes
The season ending in a clusterfuck of violence and tragedy wasn't all that surprising, but it was disappointing how clichéd and tropey it all got. I just knew Ray was going to get got because he couldn't leave without saying goodbye to his son. I knew Frank wouldn't make it out of his encounter with the Mexicans. However, I was genuinely surprised at how Ani was just sent away. They could have easily had her choose to go ahead if nothing else, but getting sent away, teary eyed felt like a disservice to her character. I don't think it would have worked to have her go with Ray since that would fuck up his getting killed, but spare her some dignity. Lastly, it bugged the hell out of me when Paul's fiancée did the "oh god I know he's dead" moment in the hotel room just after Paul was shot, but then they did it AGAIN with Ani when Ray died. That shit is stupid even when it's between people who are supposed to be in the throws of true love, but Paul and... what's her name, barely liked each other, and Ani and Ray only just hooked up. Was it some reference I don't understand? Why would a show so bleak want to evoke magical love connections at the same time as rubbing your face in Ray's misery by showing his last voice message failed to send? UGH! Also, of all the criticism Season 2 gets, I really don't get the "what the fuck is happening" meme going around. It's like the default True Detective S2 joke all over. Were they watching the show? Like, the entire time it was on? Did they have the sound on? Were they watching it on their phone while they were driving? Maybe people just don't generally watch TV without also checking Twitter the entire time any more. -
theScore's eSports app has up to the minute stats, a visualization of the map and text highlights. I ended up "watching" the majority of the main event with it.

As a fellow dude who gets intensely annoyed when people like me get their fashion criticized and judged while they're talking about something totally unrelated and important to them, I'm sure you wouldn't need to be yelled at to understand why it is rude and bad.

How many games do you guys plan on covering? Do you have people in mind to cover games you don't know / like? Will you concentrate on the big games or dive into weird, small regional scenes? -

soooooo, the kids Paul was talking to the cop about who were orphaned. They're the mask killers right? They just straight up said they are the killers... didn't they? Why else would the cop mention they were wearing masks? -
Huh, there are sensibly dressed playable female characters in MGSV (at ~7 minutes into the video above).
