  1. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm actually sort of enjoying Defiance, but I think a big part of that is how much I loved the Rifts RPG, I have a theory that Palladium talked to SyFy about makes a proper Rifts TV series but got turned down and then SyFy made something just like it to avoid having to deal with Kevin Siembieda. Trion, makers of the Rift MMO even just happens to be making the (by all accounts) shitty tie in Defiance MMO. Coincidence? Well, yes, because nobody actually knows about Rifts and I doubt Palladium would even get called back if they really did try to. The show is like 80% blue screen backgrounds and CG, but they do a pretty good job of at least keeping the quality of the image on screen consistent (even if that quality is low) which, to me anyways, makes it less distracting. It seems like its going to be pretty seriously character driven, so I'm happy to give it at least a half dozen episodes before I really pass judgement on it (so far, the character motivations are pretty one note and in some cases schizophrenic). Farscape and Deep Space Nine (two of my favorite series) started out pretty terrible as well and ended up getting better once the characters started getting settled in. However: dat SyFy fake swear word... bleh.
  2. Other podcasts

Speaking of Mad TV, Brian Callen's podcast is pretty not bad (sort of Joe Rogan-y so YMMV) and Will Sasso is single-handedly justifying the existence of Vine.
  3. I can't go into specifics, but blood and treasure has actually been spent pursuing this very idea.
  4. Any characters who are major leaders in games?

Leonardo leads, contrasted by Donatello who does machines.

  6. Memory Of A Broken Dimension

I'm interested in your assertion that it is arbitrary. Everything you do works consistently and provides immediate feedback.
  7. Memory Of A Broken Dimension

I had about 7 moments of pure discovery playing through, figuring out how to which I actually really enjoyed. It demonstrates how much more rewarding games are when you allow players to discover what they're supposed to do . Not to mention that there just aren't enough single player games these days that give players the opportunity to feel smugly superior over other players who don't get it, a feature sorely lacking in most modern games I do feel bad for the Millennial who play this never having had to use a DOS prompt before.
  8. Memory Of A Broken Dimension

  9. Don't worry, you don't need to convince me that Daigo is good at video games. I just thought it was amusing.
  10. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Joker has had a daughter for 37 years. It is the dumbest fucking thing though.
  11. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online actually included this as one of the challenges. So then someone did this: Hopefully Divekick will find its place as a palette cleanser between rounds at EVO or as a cross game / cross scene Celebrity Deathmatch side show: Daigo vs. DeMusliM or something like that.
  12. Any playtest experiences here?

Was your honest feedback "this sucks and instead of giving you specifics, let me tell you in exhaustive detail how to make your game"?
  13. Recently completed video games

I've crafted all the singleplayer stars in Heart of the Swarm. I would really have loved for someone to have commented on Kerrigan's chitinous hooker boots, if only to have her reply: "Whatever! I used to by a elite psychic ninja sniper and now I'm a god slaying planet eating bug queen who can fly... in SPACE! I'll have whatever impractical feet I like, ASS." Also, you can really tell that the Design Lead from Dawn of War II was a lead on HOTS.
  14. Sorry. I have no problem with the discussion, it's just that it ends up being same argument with the same couple of people who only seem to end up on the other side because they don't agree ENOUGH with everyone else. I'm with Adam. Emphasis mine. Also, I really like that picture of Hugh Laurie and the Pause Theme from Battle Toads.
  15. The threat of Big Dog

    Makes his grand-daddy proud:
  16. BioShock Infinite

I mostly just agree with this.edit: triple ninja'd :-P I'm sorry for derailing the thread.
  17. BioShock Infinite

IMHO, any story that spoilers can ruin probably isn't a very good story to begin with (but don't worry, I won't insist on pushing my radical a-spoiler-ist agenda around here). Everything I've seen about this game tells me that the gameplay is too be tolerated, that the choices offered in the mechanics really render down to being expressive in nature and that what you're really there for is to experience the story and be immersed in the world. These are all usually huge red flags for me (the original Bioshock didn't do anything for me). I'm not saying these things are necessarily bad (other than gameplay which is satisfied with being just tolerable), they're just not what I typically look for in video games. I am, however, a big fan of 1. dumb, 2. crazy and 3. excess (also see: my undying love for MGS).
  18. BioShock Infinite

I'm not going to lie; everything you're saying is actually starting to sell me on this game.
  19. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid will always have a golden ticket to my heart. I don't care how stupid or incoherent they are. I can't defend it. 1st day purchase no questions asked.
  20. If you're a game designer than there is a >50% chance that Richard Garriott thinks you suck. In my experience (AAA development), there is truth to his statement. DISCUSS!
  21. Saints Row 4

    I'm in.
  22. DuckTales Remastered?! WOOHOO!

Just to be clear, this isn't Pony Tales or Cotton Tales?
  23. re: Dota 2 rage. I saw these dudes at PAX a couple of years ago talking about "The Game Makes the Community" They hate a bit on the Dota community and game (but it was a couple years ago... it's gotten a little better) but they make some interesting points.
