  1. DOTA 2

When pros go on about "win a LAN before you X", it's being able to deal with that kind of thing that they're talking about. They're big kids, they can handle it.
  2. DOTA 2

It's not like they couldn't see each other in the last two.
  3. DOTA 2

I wonder if they'll go back to the TI1 layout they had in Free to Play: both teams in the middle facing each other with the crowd on all sides.
  4. Feminism

Only Ze Frank can say "asshole" with any real vemon.
  5. DOTA 2

    The International 4 announced
  6. Free to play: The Movie

It wasn't a bad movie, but it was a bad Dota movie. It was well shot and told affecting stories, but there was nothing essentially "Dota" about it. You could make the exact same movie, almost shot for shot, about chess players. Considering Dota 2 is a team game, focussing on individuals seemed strange. It is nice to see a professionally made games movie where the subjects aren't depicted as sad lunatics. As great as King of Kong is, it really is quite mean spirited in parts. However it does end up seeming to say that the people at the top of the game are either damaged or are damaging themselves, and maybe that's true to a degree (I really hope proper players associations are formed to prevent kids from being exploited if/when esports becomes a real moneymaker). For these reasons I really think it fails as a marketing tool, if that's indeed what it is. As for the CGI, I actually didn't mind it. Being familiar with the game, I could tell they weren't taking any real liberties with what they were depicting. The little flourishes just captured the mood of what was happening. Dota 2 can be inscrutable when you know what you're looking at. Just showing the in-game footage or going in depth with what was happening wouldn't have been any better.
  7. The Malformed Skull has no stat scaling (bleh), maybe that's why infusing it it doesn't reduce its damage. Does the Aldia Hammer?
  8. You're making me feel like a badass for having beaten every boss solo so far I find that a majority of the bosses, even the group fights, are beatable with the same tactic: get right in their face (and if in a group, keep them all in front of you), circle until they whiff a combo and tag them once, then let your stamina recover. Patience, a 100% physical damage block shield and a reasonably fast weapon (the mace you can buy in Majula is my standby) are the key. I hardly even find the need to dodge.
  9. I welcomed a newcomer to my rat den about the head and ears with my +8 welcoming mace.
  10. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

You actually have the ability to zoom the camera during all of them. Can't move it though, so it could be faked it guess.
  11. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Don't just write yourself off. You recognize how harmful racist and homophobic slurs are, even in jest. It isn't exactly a quantum leap to extend that same consideration to sexism.Calling out the use of normalized slurs, be they racist, homophobic or sexist, is important specifically because they've become so normal. That doesn't mean they don't still get used in their original context (often in conjunction with violence). Edit: sweet, new page
  12. Diablo III

    hhehehe
  13. Oculus rift

I think part of the ick factor comes from the fact that you give more valuable demographic data when you're unaware that you're taking part in that arrangement. There's a market necessity to make people forget that they're taking part in an exchange and to do as little as is legally possible to help them to protect themselves.
  14. Oculus rift

Somehow my double post is above my actual post.
  15. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Miller is angry at Paz for plot reasons. The misogyny that comes out of Miller is like the misogyny that comes out of the thugs in Arkham City directed at Cat Woman; he's angry at a woman so he's spitting gendered insults at her. It's thoughtless and reflects more on the author than the character.
  16. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

That's the gob I'm talking about...
  17. Oculus rift

There's a joke in all this about a social media juggernaut buying the least social development in entertainment technology since the flesh light. Keep the pic and replace the Rift with money?
  18. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

The cutscenes are actually well done (subject matter notwithstanding) and not too too long, maybe 5 minutes. I am of the opinion that Kojima can direct a good action scene if the characters keep their gobs shut.
  19. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

You cannot skip them ever. It's pretty annoying since the game is clearly designed for multiple play throughs. Going weapons hot is pretty cool. The enemy soldiers actually have a lot of steps between healthy and dead. In fact, a majority of guys you down in a running battle will just be wounded and eventually recover or get dragged out by their mates or scramble behind cover or continue to fire at you from the ground or radio in for help. It actually makes the violence less glamorous and action movie like. I have noticed some cracks in their AI behavior, and the fact that you can go from raging gun battle to situation normal in about 2 minutes is very gamey. I've never personally had a big problem with MGS controls but they have added various schemes including some labeled "shooter" (I found the default to be fine). The UI is extremely minimalist, with a majority of it being contextual (enemy suspicion, contextual actions etc). The camera acts like you're watching Snake through a lense, which means lense flair from light sources, accompanied by buzzing when a particularly bright light is on you. This is actually a good thing as this is what acts like a "stealth meter", and communicates the info perfectly. It does the jam on screen thing when you're hurt so meh. A lot of the in game UI is supposed to be representative of Snake's situational awareness (primarily guys you've tagged by looking at them for a few seconds through your binoculars or gun sites), and it will fade when things get really hectic. It will only return when you have a moment of rest.
  20. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I love the gameplay. It flows incredibly well and is super slick. Ask me anything about the gameplay. You can't skip the cut scenes but they book end the mission so feel free to get a cup o tea after you hit start for the first time.
  21. I've had the same experience. You can only play your first Souls game once I guess. As for Black Gulch
  22. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I guess you do need to go looking for it... Come on Kojima, you're killing me here
  23. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

So I've gone through all the logs and I can't find anything like you described synth. Unless it's hidden in secret unlocks or something, I think the intertnet might be mistaken. Very bad things are implied to have happen to Paz, but they don't go into details.
  24. Recently completed video games

I played on PS3. Wasn't shakey at all.
