  1. Uuuuuuuh sure I like dnd-ass'd D&D with a tone somewhere around The Princess Bride. Running 5e, you can use either the free books posted above or the Player's Handbook if you've got it. 8PST Friday twice monthly on weeks Merus isn't. 3-4 players preferred.
  2. 5e is very playable with the free versions of the books, you really only lose some of the crunch. http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules?x=dnd/basicrules Also, I'm more like twice a month. Also also, I'll play if there's room. If spots are in high demand, maybe I can run one off games when other DMs are unavailable.
  3. I'd like to be involved but I couldn't commit to more than one fortnightly session, probably on Friday evenings. I'd prefer 5e. I can run or just play. Something I was thinking might be fun would be an exquisite corpse type-a thing, where players hand off the DMing responsibilities every session and get to set what is true for the world or fill in details on an ongoing basis, so long as it doesn't contradict previous rulings.
  4. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Famicom aka Super Mario Lost Levels (not the Doki Doki do over). They break basic rules that the original wrote.
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

What is GG's definition of ablism anyways? I see them swing that club at ZQ as well.
  6. Has anyone played both Beyond Earth and Endless Legend? How do they stack up?
  7. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Ralph Koster seems like his heart is in the right place most of the time but he's recently* gotten some static for his gatekeeper-y formalism uber alles attitude towards personal games. Methinks making flippant remarks about doxxing, who's victims (by demographic) tend to overlap with the personal games scene, might be linked. *recently being in the last few months
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Probably about as much to help GG as releasing the full chat logs in response to ZQ's "cherry-picking" of the Burgers and Fries chat.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

GamerGate has always been the video games tea party, complete with misguided teenaged libertarian wannabes confident in their own infallible logic and reason in the face of all the ~~~feelings~~~ the other side keeps having. I fully expect Alex Jones or Glenn Beck to reach out to these guys pretty soon. Edit: oh holy shit
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Without knowing anything about the exchange, I feel totally comfortable saying that that was almost certainly something someone else said to them and that absorbing and reusing the language used to shut them down in the past is totally within their MO.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'm pretty sure one of the women is Vivian James, the fake anime lady they invented to agree with them.
  12. Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

I don't know if ecchi manga or romance novels (in which I would say includes Twilight) or specific parodies of hypersexualization tropes or porny things in general fit the bill. I feep like they should be sincere, straight faced but wildly, transparently clueless. Bast the Elf's excuse reads like a joke to me; she's selfawarely written to play on the unreasonablely sexy warrior woman trope. A sexist parody of a sexist thing is still sexist... but it isn't in the realm of Baby Got Backstory. What say you?
  13. Bayonetta

I played bayo1 on 360 but I only have a PS3 now. I want to play again but I remember people saying the PS3 version was terribly optimized. Was that fixed?
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

An artistic imagining of the of a Gator being confronted with this information: *the briefest possible glance at the information* *eyes shift over to look at author* "She's a feminist!" *proceeds to doxx and harass on twitter*
  15. Rektreactional

Can it be watched anywhere? I don't see it on the Rektreational youtube channel (yet?).
  16. I would be extremely surprised. I don't think it's controversial to say that LoL is already the new WoW and that for many people it is the default choice of Lords Management simply because everyone they know plays it. I also think that the idea that Lords Managements need to be boiled down to be accessible is clearly untrue. Even though LoL is a streamlined dota, it is still far more complex than HotS. Yet, it manages to consistently have more concurrent users at any given time than all of Steam. Lords Managements aren't a niche waiting for a polished accessible title to blow up. It's blown.
  17. Was that a reference from Junior Mints?
  18. Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

This is a weird pull but Mokoto Aramaki in the Ghost in the Shell 2.0 manga is the head of security for a floating private city state and wears a micro-mini skirt to take advantage of "eye-pull" in negotiations and combat. Then she's totally bare ass naked for like 100 pages because she's hacking. For that matter, in the Ghost in the Shell movie, there's a 40' octotank and a guy in a parka that turn invisible. Why does the Major need to be naked again? Wtf Masamune Shiro. Actually nevermind, I've seen Gal Grease. I know wtf.

Her sexiness isn't simply there to titilate and explained with a handwave. Jessica Rabbit being a sexy dame femme not-fatal in a noir parody is her entire role. Maybe the secondary signifiers they chose to mark her as such are problematic and are worth discussing, but if she wasn't a smoldering sex pot her character and the movie are different. She doesn't fit the trope. Case closed. *bangs gavel I brought from home*

OH, OH! The Pillar Men in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Battle Tendency) just wear little loin cloths because their skin excretes digestive acids so they can eat vampires by touching them. Goddam JoJo's is great.

This is why I asked "is it possible to justify a conventionally sexy female character" earlier. It kind of sounds like the answer in this thread is no. If that isn't the case, what are the criteria? That's where the value of this trope is in my mind.
